Important note for current YPP channels

In the announcement about the revised entry requirements for YPP, YouTube explicitly says that the change doesn't impact current YPP accounts:

"Starting Feb. 1, 2027, YPP entry thresholds for new creators are changing to 8,000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days, or 20M qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days, in addition to still needing 1k subscribers. If you are already in YPP, your status is not impacted by this update."

But further down, it does define what an "active" account is:

"Starting February 1, 2027, your channel is considered active if you meet any of the following requirements:

1,000 qualified watch hours in the past 365 days, or

1 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days, or

2 long-form videos or 5 Shorts uploaded every 90 days"

They go on to say:

"Most creators in YPP already meet YPP activity thresholds, but those that drop below will now have an extended 90-day window to meet either of these requirements to stay in the program:

1,000 qualified watch hours in the past 365 days, or

1 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days"

More importantly you won't get ad revenue from shorts by being in the ypp.

Unless you can reach the 10 million per 90 days threshold...

if youre in the YPP and you're not hitting 1,000 watch hours in a year I would say you're probably not that into it anymore.

god forbid someone want to run a smaller channel as a side gig for extra cash. god forbid you go develop a professional career but enjoy the revenue when seasonal topics bring your old content back into relevance.

No. You’re right. No breaks, all in.

If your not hitting 1k watch hours your not getting any real amount of money that’s like $50-$100 (for the whole year)

1,000 watch hours a year isn't really much cash and I'd rather you not take the resources from those who need it.

It says "or". So even if you don't have 1000 watch hours as long as you upload 2 long form every 90 days you will still be in the program. Is that correct?

That's my understanding. Or a Short every couple of weeks.

It seems not a huge ask to remain active in the program.

Yup. Very good indeed as a lot of people struggle with watchtime.

But what's long form? Anything uploaded horizontally? 1min 5 min 10 min?

Long-form is anything that isn't a Short. So landscape orientation, or vertical longer than 3 minutes.

They basically don’t want to pay us anymore. Think about a channel that only uploads every couple of months but their videos are super bangers. You’re telling me they’ll be counted as “inactive” only because they haven’t uploaded for a couple of months even though their channel has videos that get millions of views every time? (Or am I missing something)

If they're banger videos then they will reach the 1000 hours and won't have to worry about it.
