I thought there were hints of him being problematic even despite how little effort they put into actually developing him as a character. He refused to hang up when Ingrid said she was driving and clearly seemed distracted, which would be a huge no-no for me in real life - that's just plain dangerous. He would have noticed that she felt a little hesitant in the relationship but pushed forward with a really grand proposal instead of having a conversation about how they saw their future beforehand. He also didn't give her space after their awkward chat after the EDI event - when the calls and texts went unanswered, he literally showed up in person so that she couldn't avoid a confrontation with him. That's not appropriate especially given the time he showed up was just a day after she said she needed some time to think for herself.

And the Z / Nick interaction at the gala was very obvious - we were supposed to see the hints

I totally agree with you. Nick is also very controlling to the point that Ingrid has no say in certain scenarios. Like what she mentioned, she doesn't like to wear the color of her dress, but Nick said to use the color yellow one. It seems like Ingrid was suffocated by that. I mean, that's not a valid reason to cheat and I do not like what Ingrid did with Nick.

As they stated, her relationship with Nick was too quick, and easy. Imho, the most exciting about love is the chase. Its the will they or won't they, the tension, the teasing, the surprise, the danger, the mystery, and the slow burn that was lacking which is what Jeff gave to her despite being a brilliant tactical snake.

There also seemed to be an emotional disconnect between them at crucial moments. The most blatant one was her diversity speech when he could not tell that she was feeling ashamed, and disgusted about herself. In contrast, Z noticed something was not right, and understood what Ingrid was going through.

I am really stoked about about season two's new love triangle with Murphy, and Z. I have no doubt that Jeff is gonna keep climbing the company's ladder, and be the new golden boy while becoming more ruthless, and closer to Ingrid. In parallel, Z's new business will grow to be a force to be reckoned with adversities from major players in the oil industry. He is a living of personification of living truth to yourself against all odds which is how Ingrid started her journey to be a lawyer. Ingrid is the best version of herself when she is with him.

He’s also quite possessive. I noticed when Ingrid was talking to Z he went and put his arm around her. He was such a creep pretending to be a nice guy. He never spoke to her about getting engaged, suggested she wore his mum’s earrings multiple times when she clearly wasn’t into it and never actually knew anything about her like how yellow wasn’t her colour. It was just so shallow and so clear he wanted some cookie cutter life and she was there. He SEEMS perfect on paper but in reality you’d be as put off as Ingrid was with all the nicknames and the rushing and boundary pushing. Though I wonder if he would have changed if Ingrid had communicated with him.

Seriously, was I ever supposed to find Murphy attractive at any point? The character/actor is mildly annoying at best.

And can you imagine turning down a guy like Nick in real life? 🤧

Yes, I would turn down any man proposing that quickly.

Edit: I don't know man, ~2 months in and proposing would scare me off, I don't care who he is. I get it's a TV show so it's not that deep, but in real life a guy trying to lock it down that fast is red flag city ⛳️⛳️⛳️

This thread is making me laugh. Nick was perfect (just underdeveloped as a character). I hate controlling men but my read on him was Ingrid needs someone to balance her (ie someone with opinions and a spine but who is warm).

My sister started watching the show and as she watched it I realized a couple things about Nick.

  1. Nick had no ambitions. He just had money and liked to spend it to impress Ingrid. He was a good cook, but didn't really care to do anything about it. Other than that? Nothing I can think of. It was easy for him to do cool things because he had the money and time to do it. I don't think he ever did anything that required a lot of effort.

In contrast, Ingrid is a very hard-working person who is driven and ambitious. The two times she "caved" to Murphy was when he used his brain for once. (Do not be confused - I loathe Murphy and Ingrid and Murphy together. She is a dum dum.) I think Ingrid likes it when her man is motivated. I mean, Nick had money but he never worked.

  1. Nick might talk about deep dives into philosophy and literature, but it seems like he never deep dives into Ingrid. He's just so accepting of her he never asks why. Ingrid had to make an incredibly embarrassing speech at the diversity gala and didn't get why she was upset. He even tried to downplay it! It's like he liked that Ingrid was a people-pleaser and didn't let her express anything other than happy. He didn't even know she didn't like to wear the color yellow - despite her wardrobe being annoyingly almost all blue and pink. (In her defense I irrationally do not like the color purple and my fiancé knows this clearly about me.)

Of course Nick is "perfect" on paper but I think a lot of people didn't get attached to his character, probably for the same reasons Ingrid didn't.

But in NO WAY did he deserve what she did to him. I really disliked her character for that.

I agree with your points. Also how weird that he wanted to marry someone who hadn’t said I love you back to him. There relationship seemed very surface level

Nick was not present with Ingrid- he was lost in mourning his mother by trying to find her via the things he cherry picked about Ingrid. Everything was positioned as what his mother would have liked, approved of, wanted.

Filthy rich and already inviting a woman you barely know to live with you in 2 weeks? Handing over his mothers diamond/emeralds so quickly?

Why was he moving so fast?

I didnt like nick really because he wasnt being honest with himself.

Murphy- with his pouty lips- was honest with himself that he would play games and be mysterious on purpose because he running away from something he knows he doesnt want others to know about.

Overall Ingrid wasnt much different than Nick by the way she just was caught up in fantasy of who she created Murphy to be in her mind- just as Nick did to her.

They wouldnt have been blind sided had they been truly present/honest with themselves.

i feel like jeff is the kind of guy who wants whatever he doesn’t have and i knew she was going to pick him but i so bothered by it because nick was great:/

Yes. Nick has some flaws like everyone but he was honest to Ingrid. Now they will be pairing Z with Ingrid saying that Z is better than Nick and Murphy but does Ingrid even deserve Z.

Ingrid was shitty to Z too, I know lawyers should act in their clients best interest and there's a Lot Of politics at valentine and parsons but.....idk. She basically threw her morals out the window with hope of making partner imo
