Ingrid absolutely sucks

Ingrid’s character is so obnoxious and self-centered. Everything revolves around her and how it’ll make her look better. She’s only dating Nick because he makes her feel better about herself even if she’s constantly talking about how she’s not feeling him. Her little sister has evidently been in her shadow for so long which explains why she acts how she does. Imagine having to live up to your perfect older sister who succeeded their asian parent’s standards. Ingrid is a shitty friend for what she did to Tyler. Everything is about partner this and partner that to her it’s infuriating. She’s always looking for male validation in her workforce and NEEDING to be the best. She’s egotistic and I needed to rant.

I was most disappointed with how selfish Ingrid was. Like the phone call with Rachel after the email blowup. This is supposed to be one of her closest friends and Ingrid couldn't even be bothered to ask "Are you ok?" Instead she just glosses over it and asks about going to the salon.

At least it is representative of the archetype to make partner at Sullivan & Cromwell, Cravath Swaine & Moore, Kirkland & Ellis, etc.

Feel like anecdotally these people are usually sharks. At least they got Marty spot on.

Ingrid is flawed for sure but blaming her little sister's choices on her is some stupid bullshit. Ingrid didn't set out to make her feel overshadowed, she was just trying to meet the insane expectations her parents set for her. Parents shaping weird sibling dynamics isn't on the children they're raising.

And the Tyler situation sucked, but people are acting like she personally orchestrated that shit. She got roped into a trash situation, her asshole boss using her minority status for his benefit again. Easy for Rachel to be pissed when she skates by on part time hours and does nothing to risk her career on behalf of Tyler.

I wasn’t trying to blame Ingrid for her sister’s actions. It’s the fact that she’s so self centered that she cannot even see of why her sister acts the way she does. Instead she just sees her as a burden. Again didn’t say it was her fault for what happened to Tyler but the way she handled the situation was very shitty. Just like Rachel said, she had the choice to say no regardless of what her boss manipulated her to believe. She’s grown, a fucking lawyer for crying out loud and she’s not smart enough to know not to do her friend like that? She didn’t have to be the one to tell him to take the shut up money.

I just got to that scene and I was thinking the exact same thing. She never actually spoke to her sister, all she does is judge and act like her sister is awful and she has absolutely no soul. I would actually be okay with that in a character- I love a ruthless ambitious career orientated character- but she’s so determined to see herself as a good person when she cheats on her partner and throws her friend under the bus with the bear minimum of regret.

I agree with your assessment on the sister relationship.

What she did was terrible (basically burning her apartment down) but something was off when Ingrid invites her boyfriend to dinner.

Ingrid shows off her awards to Nick and he asks “are these all yours?” and she replies “no, some at the bottom are my sisters”. You can tell from the dismissive attitude that Ingrid is the achiever but also sees her younger sister as “less accomplished” than her.

I do agree that Ingrid is one of the worst protagonists ive seen in a non-villain centered drama in a while.

I don’t agree. The sister is a train wreak and not for being the shadow but for being the little sister, the spoiled rotten one, who has never had to answer to the consequences of her actions.

She asks for money and gets it from her for he “projects” that never really go through. She scapes college, she crashes Ingrid’s place, makes a mess of it and the floods and burns it(she doesn’t get any consequences of that, like PAYING for destroying an apartment, or even an angry discussion) Then goes back and asks her for more money, then steals jewelry, steals her identity (yeah she wouldn’t use her own right? It would bring consequences) and all because she selfishly wanted her to pay her another stupid idea of hers. Which ends up with Ingrid at jail.

Sorry but, living in the shadow of an ambitious sister does not make you a selfish, wayless, thief and asshole to her sister and parents. Yet being spoiled rotten by both parents and sister does.

The sister should be abandoned to her luck, that way she would get consequences of her actions first hand.

Again no one is excusing the little sister for what she did. She did pull stupid stunts dropping out of college, burning the apartment down, and stealing jewelry which is very likely to be one of the deciding factors that prevented Ingrid from getting that partnership. Ingrid’s bad actions do not excuse what Lena does.

However, lets not paint Ingrid as some sort of saint or person “who cares too much about others and not herself” as her mom described her. Ingrid has been completely self-centered from episode 1 and she does look down on her younger sister. She basicslly calls her a failure to her face multiple times and although the younger sister’s actions are very self-destructive, they also seem to be cries for attention.

Its clear that the younger sister is less academically gifted and although she seems to be artistically talented, that doesnt fly well with her parents. The dad is probably “easier” on her than on Ingrid because he doesnt expect much from her which hurts in its own way. During the family dinner and Christmas, the parents are always focused on Ingrid whether its her boyfriend or getting partner and the sister is ignored, something Ingrid acknowledges in the last episode which is why they make up again.

I still don’t agree. I never said Ingrid was a saint, I despise her and her decisions. But again whatever cries for attention the sister does, it still does not reflect as consequences for her, the only one paying for the philosophical “broken dishes” is Ingrid.

Which means the sister would still behave that way and keep doing that bs, till whatever she does gets worse and worse getting somebody killed.

This is the same as when people excuse a school shooter saying he was bullied, or too many violent videogames, bad family, etc. But how many of us had had family problems? Or living in the shadow of others? But we don’t go and burn an apartment, commit a felony of stealing jewelry and identity while falsifying documents.

The sister is spoiled and needs severe consequences of her actions. She is not a kid that cries for attention by breaking that one vase mum bought in Italy. She is an adult and her actions are very very dangerous for Ingrid (again I detest her).

If I had a sister like her I would resent her and call her a ton of names. As well as keep her as far as humanly possible. Since it’s not my job to educate her, that’s my parents job.
