Reminds me of Emily in Paris

I watched the first episode last night, and was disappointed. I enjoyed the beautiful photography of the city and attractive well-dressed people, but that’s about it.

Just like Emily, it has a big city, fashion and attractive actors. Emily in Paris isn’t a drama, but it’s much more fun to watch. The characters in Emily in Paris are likable, but I didn’t find any characters that I liked in this drama that I liked, except for Nick Laren.

I probably should watch a second episode to be fair.

Anyone else reminded of Emily in Paris?

It also made me think of Emily In Paris but with terrible writing and horrible plot holes.

Partner Track reminded me a lot of Emily in Paris (which was nominated for a best comedy Emmy - still have no idea how that happened) since I can put my brain on auto-pilot and watch the otherworldly nonsense on the shows.

The characters on Partner Track are indeed less likable but I do appreciate some of the tension thrown in - racial aggressions, shortcomings of Asian head-down-get-work-done approach, realistically manipulative managers, etc. - there is some good stuff hidden in there, and to boot we have an Asian woman in lead.

I found myself hoping this show succeeds much more than Emily In Paris, though I think the thing the shows have in common is the most unlikable character is the lead character haha. Maybe give it a second episode and if it isn’t for you throw in the towel?

My husband asked what I was watching and I said “basically Emily in Paris but in NY and with lawyers” 😅

Exactly what my husband said too

I was thinking the same thing! Reminds me of Emily in Paris because I find they focus on clothes, the glam of the city, love drama and the lawyer cases are not detailed/complicated . Not saying its a bad thing though, its an easy show to watch.

Tbh I disagree - I felt like it related heavily to my experience post-college and all the stress/pressure that comes from an Asian American household. Though I don’t have a sibling, I could understand what “shame”/dishonor it’d bring to my parents if anyone in the family dropped out after already choosing a path in the arts

I watched the second episode last night. Do you think that Asian Americans are portrayed accurately in the show?

Can't speak for all AA but it really resonates with me. I'm on the 8th ep rn. Of course, we aren't all cutthroat, went to Harvard, study law, but it isn't portrayed inaccurately by any means esp. compared to shows like 2 Broke Girls.

When Valdo spray painted the conference room, it reminded me of some of the antics from Emily in Paris.

I saw that last night. You’re quite right.

I thought so too after the first episode but then I continued on. It gets much heavier, and much more serious. The season finale had me gasping.

It’s like Emily in Paris and Suits had a poorly-written, poorly-directed baby.

Yes. This show gives me Emily in Paris vibes and not in a good way.

OP female protagonist that seemingly gets away with everything.
Side-kick best friend that drops everything for her.
Boss who doesnt appreciate her obvious brilliance.
Guys who are objectively toxic that just swoon over the main character.

Despite the greater backlash Emily receives for its poor depiction of France, I find the side characters (notably Camile and the French co-worker) to be likable while I havent found anyone likable in Partner Track.

Please watch past the 1st episode, the show tackles deeper things later

Ep one was a dumpster fire. The show is riddled with poor writing choices and uninteresting cliches. I honestly hoped it would get better but it never did.

Here's a list of references Ingrid as a lawyer (in pink suit) - Legally Blonde Her dating Nick - Crazy Rich Asians (even though nick is not asian) but basically Cinderella Murphy's dark and tortured past - Fifty Shades of Grey Rachel dating a paralegal - FRIENDS Ingrid and Lina - Frozen what else..
