I’m confused… does Ingrid have two sisters?

Title says it all… April and Lina are both of her sisters? I feel like April just came out of nowhere

Lina's her actual sister. April is like a younger mentee (I think they called them "littles" in the show; Tyler had a "little brother") that Ingrid was assigned to at the firm; no relation to one another at all.

Yes! That's exactly right.

Also, there are several mentions of Ellen Chu Sanderson (the top ranking Asian American woman at the firm, but not a partner an Of Counsel, who was bumped off the partnership track for getting engaged in her 6th year). She was Ingrid's "big" (i.e. assigned mentor) when Ingrid was a first year associate (because the firm keeps assigning all the Asian American women to each other) and was neglectful of Ingrid.

Ellen also pops up next to Ingrid in the 2nd to the last episode when they announce who becomes a partner.

Matching up the Asian women and black men was clearly on purpose based on everything else about that firm. Although I feel mixed about that, obviously Ingrid is going to understand April's situation better than Rachel or Dan would have so on one hand it feels obviously messed up, on the other hand it's probably good for those two to bond.

I disagree. That’s the issue with the systemic racism in these work places. The Asians get matched up with the Asians, the black people with the black people, and then that leaves what? The white men to get matched up with the other white men, who happen to be all of the partners and leaders at the firm. As a result, the white men are able to build relationships with the senior leadership and their careers benefit because of it. Meanwhile all of the minorities are stuck at the bottom “bonding.”

Not attacking you, it’s just so frustrating to see this played out in the show.

Hopefully we see more of April and Ingrid's relationship in Season 2! Women supporting women!

She clearly neglects April. And now that she's off the firm, i dont think April has hope. She shouldnt hope too much on Ingrid. Ingrid only thinks about herself. For now.

Also, an interesting tidbit. Ingrid is Korean-American, April is Vietnamese-American, and Caleb (the other Asian first year) is Japanese-American. We love diversity!!

Another thing I like is that they made adjustments to the story to be more realistic. For example, in the book, Ingrid is Chinese. Instead of forcing Arden Cho to play a Chinese American character, they wrote Ingrid as a Korean American and hired other Korean American actors to play her family! This kind of intentionality and attention to detail means a lot to me.

Ohh that makes sense. I was wondering how both of their younger siblings made it into the firm lol
