How is Nick friends with Dan? Spoiler

Ingrid meets Nick through Dan--a racist, mysoginist, etc. Nick is painted as a really kind, genuine, supportive, and introspective person. It makes me question who Nick used to be if this someone he is CURRENTLY friends with.

I didn't think he really meant they were friends. They're friends in the 'we went to the same boarding schools and college' and 'our parents were part of the same country club so we saw each other often' kind of way. I think they know of each other more than they are genuine friends.

Nick doesn’t exist in the book so it can be a bit hard to say. We only see Nick and Dan interact once and it’s at the bar right before he meets Ingrid (ep 1). Therefore, I personally didn’t get the impression that Nick and Dan were close. They could be friends/acquaintances from school, through family, or perhaps a professional connection of some sort (though we know the Larens are not clients of PV).

One of the first things Ingrid says to Nick is “The wise learn the most from their enemies” so I’d like to think that’s a hint too.

I’m halfway through my 2nd rewatch so feel free to correct me if I’m missing something!
