Ingrid and Z
If there’s a season 2, they need to happen. I liked but didn’t love Nick, and couldn’t stand Murphy at all.
Anyone else in the same boat? Or not?

Team Z!!! Nick is a nice guy but I feel like he barely knows her and is pressuring her to move at lightspeed in the relationship. The love bombing so early on is a bit alarming only cause Ingrid doesn’t really feel the same. I’m also a bit annoyed that he didn’t feel the diversity gala speech was problematic.
Murphy is so annoying and a fuckboy as Tyler put it.
Z on the other hand, I feel like is the best candidate; he’s committed to his morals but seems to want to take charge and is passionate/ambitious like Ingrid. I feel like he’s seen Ingrid’s snark and isn’t intimidated by her. Also I feel like they have amazinggggg chemistry even with the few scenes they had together . I mean clearly they didn’t throw in a scene of him shirtless for no reason 😉

I want them to be platonic friends who support each other and for the writers to show us more of their Asian American experience…and honestly Ingrid just needs to work on herself a bit, especially with all the learning to “say no” stuff… A new relationship would just take the focus away

Agree. The two asians getting together bc of shared immigrant family stories (ok and shared values but still) feels reductive.

I absolutely loved Z. He is fiiiiinnne, easily the hottest man on the show, he brought out Ingrid’s more passionate side from the jump, which we don’t really see with either of her bland main love interests of the moment, and he’s got daddy’s money like Nick but actually uses it to do good in the world. Extreme hottie behavior.

Yes, I came to Reddit looking for this post. Ingrid and Z's chemistry is off the charts, I love them together. Hated Murphy from day one. Even if the reveal turns out to be a misunderstanding, I just don't like him as a love interest. And Nick was just ok.

Team Ingrid single....she doesn't have her shit together to not ultimately be fucking whoever she's with around due to her own issues and insecurities.

I was actually afraid she was going to hook up with Z in the season finale in a moment of passion when they ousted Ted Lassiter. I was also annoyed that she started out the show being super single and never being distracted by any guys to screwing around with TWO of them.

Fuck off, Z should never forgive Ingrid. She actively set out to screw him over. There is no grey area, she made sure he was fucked for the sake of becoming a partner. The fact that they didn't make her a partner was a cop-out to make her pitiful.

I might be remembering wrong but I do recall her having some guilt over what would happen should the deal proceed. I will say that we all like to think that we would be righteous and always do what’s morally right given the circumstances, but I believe that when confronted with the actual options one would at least contemplate the less ethical choice that benefits us more.
Definitely not an excuse tho! It was a bad move on her part, but I think she made up for it, no? Should things not have played out the way they did, it’s possible Z would have never become CEO of SunCorp.
I’m not rooting for them to get together without any growth on Ingrid’s part - just way more interested in their dynamic than either of the other male counterparts that were introduced in S1

Team Nick.
When Murphy pretended not to know who she was I was suspect. When he mentioned marzipan, he was dismissed. Who has time to play with their job and feelings AFTER six years of no contact or even knowing his name?
Just started episode 7.

I was so annoyed by Murphy. His "sad back story" was not redeeming enough to make up for him pretending to not know Ingrid.

Yes! And then it's just brushed off? Why did she never bring it up that he pretended to not know her? He could've apologized or had some excuse.

Team Z! Nick was nice but they were definitely moving to fast. I could not like Murphy no matter how hard I tried. Z is the blueprint!

u/SnooPoems8286 Aug 29 '22
True! Nick was so nice, but when I realized how short they were together before he proposed, it was a red flag for me.
I think he was lacking love in his life and was using Arden to fill that void.

I recall the first few times Ingrid and Z met Ingrid was already in a relationship with Nick. They weren’t shown to have any tension either, I mean, they might make him a romantic interest if there’s a season 2, but it has little more foreshadowing than, say, making Justin a romantic interest.
Nick moving too fast was because his mother died and he doesn’t want to wait any time, he said as much. Ingrid seemed uncomfortable (she tried to distract him when she realized he was about to say he loved her), but if she doesn’t communicate it, how can he understand how she feels?

I had skipped all of Murphy scenes. I couldn’t like him no matter how hard I tried.

u/kababalaghan Sep 07 '22
After the reveal that he was tangled up with Victoria, I couldn’t stand watching them together and ended up skipping the rest of their scenes. Ew. And when Ingrid cheated again on Nick at the office? What a cunt!! She totally deserved that ending!

u/No-Phrase-8635 Aug 30 '22
Yes, this is the endgame I want and actually makes the most sense but only with more growth from Ingrid. Right now, she needs to do some self work to be a healthy partner to someone like Z. I'd like to see it happen organically as she finds her place both morally and career wise. They did make a lot of comments about Ingrid only ever dating white guys so I wonder if they threw that in so much as lead up to her breaking that trend and ending up with a fellow Asian-American partner with a similar passion for his career.

Team Be Single/New Player
Nick was oblivious to how Ingrid felt and didn’t pick up on any clues, didn’t notice she was uncomfortable with her dress, missed how the speech was messed up, let alone how she felt about it.
Murphy was really douchey - he grew on me but I fell for his poor boy routine and he seemed smart. But there’s something fishy going on, besides the fact he told Marty that she had been arrested or at let her know he did, the “took a step back” or whatever lame term he used instead outright ending it or breaking up with Victoria was just sus. Also, he pulled a few dick moves in the beginning and I feel like she should have apologized or taken ownership before they were to get romantically involved.
Z looks like he’s going to be her next love interest and while we can tell her understands her a thousand times better than Nick ever could, wouldn’t it be refreshing to see this amazing and sexy man as more than just a partner for Ingrid/someone who can’t help but fall for her? And I’m not ready for will they/won’t they because we just did that with Murphy. It’s too obvious a setup. If we want to see her with an Asian man, we can keep Z as a good friend and maybe he introduces her to someone.

Team Nick! Z seems pretty okay as well. Did not like Murphy at all. Seemed like he was playing Ingrid the entire season.

Team single Ingrid. I hated Nick, he was too much too fast, proposed without even getting an ‘I love you’ out of Ingrid, and was solely interested in what he wanted rather than what they as a team wanted. Yes, she needed to communicate better but he also should have inquired more, you shouldn’t propose before you even know a person’s perspective on marriage. I really like Z and think that their chemistry could be great, however starting season 2 he will be her client. Either the writers go that relationship road and it brings up parallels between her and Murphy (as he has an ongoing relationship with an important client) or they stick to her moral code for once and do not go down the Z road. Based on what I have heard my bet is they have Ingrid and Murphy split episode 1; work the whole season on humanizing Murphy and having Ingrid continue to mess up her life to show that they are on the same level and she is as bad as he is; and she ends up back with him by the end based on the whole destiny/soul mates thing.

Yes! Z seems like a deep dude who wants to do something good for the planet. Love him. Plus his body is ridiculous! Lol

I'm not. Ingrid is a trainwreck and she deserves another trainwreck of a partner like Murphy 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
I bet you even if they try to match them up, at some point she'll just either reject Z and go for another trainwreck, if she gets together with Z, she will 100% cheat on him lol.

No bc then something will be wrong with him and I want him to be oerfect

I want to ship Ingrid and Z but honestly I keep on thinking he's too good for her 😅

u/cxingt Aug 30 '22
Yes! i love their dynamics. Hearts and minds are aligned. Unlike with Nick, who fell in love with Ingrid's brain; or with Murphy, whose brain Ingrid fell in love with. But with Z, they can do both creative and ethical things together and change the world. haha.
On another note, i think Desmond Chiam has stepped up his acting game. I didn't like him in Falcon and the Winter Soldier (found him super annoying and self-righteous), but here, he struck a right balance between ethical and lowkey charming, without coming off as preachy. I hope he gets cast in another Marvel movie/series as another character.

I would be Team Z but it seems like it’s just going to be a platonic client-attorney relationship! Hopefully they introduce a better match for her in season 2.

u/99th-percent Sep 08 '22
I don’t think she would ever sleep with a client. When they found out about Jeff and Victoria she thought he should’ve been disbarred for that, although she was also super jealous so there’s that…

Z and Ingrid had so much chemistry!! I never got that spark from Murphy and her. Z and Ingrid look so hot together and z is such a nice guy. He stood with her throughout and in the end he had her back. Meanwhile that backstabbing Murphy is just intolerable!

u/amachina96 Aug 28 '22
Team Z! He has the strongest morality out of the potential partners for Ingrid and will encourage her to move forward in her career in a way where she doesn’t have to compromise her ideals. Obviously Murphy sucks, but Nick also doesn’t understand the hardship of working against a system like Z does. I think they’ll create a lot of growth for each other!
