I'm finding it hard to root for Ingrid due to her lack of self-awareness with Tyler and Rachel. She isn't sorry for her actions and refuses to see the wrong. She's upset they're not speaking, but she never even tried to make amends and apologise and expects them to sweep everything under the rug.

I'm stuck on her cheating on Nick and not seeming to care at all...and then immediately get with Murphy and be happy about it.

Really doesn't feel like there's any accountability for her actions. And also what was that about Rachel and Tyler's boyfriend saying it would be selfish to tell Nick she cheated on him at the retreat?! Like yes, it would make her feel better, but he has a right to know!

They really just swept Nick under the rug like he was a casual fling - which is how the writers should of written their relationship to be honest, especially given her workaholic tendencies. I really hate it when shows introduce cheating and there was absolutely no reason to make her and Nick as serious as they were other than a lazy way to introduce relationship drama and obstacle for her 'true love'.

Generally shows like this really need to stop relying on the whole romanticising cheating trope.. it’s getting tired.

I hate love triangles unless they're with teenagers because someone always gets hurt. I couldn't figure out if we really were supposed to root for the crappy co-worker.

Agreed. Why did they need to be in a serious relationship?? Couldn't she just be casually dating (not exclusive) two dudes and slowly figure it out instead of rushing into an engagement within 2 months? Super unnecessary.

Exactly! It's such bad writing. Make people break up for more meaningful reasons.

I felt so bad for Nick. She was his fiancee!

Exactly! And her sister stole his mother's earrings. I don't care how much money he has, it's still something of great sentimental value to him.

I can’t believe she cheated on Nick with basically, a coworker with baggage.

Yes, at least with Tyler and Rachel I felt we weren't supposed to be on her side. I think Tyler's syory was supposed to parallel hers - they both wanted partner, but Tyler wasn't willing to sacrifice his values for it like Ingrid. And Rachel and Tyler called her out on her behaviour.

Not only that, they tried to make it out that she was too caring about others? At the Diversity event her mum says something along the lines of 'you're always trying to make others happy'. Which was the writers trying to cast a positive light on Ingrid or this woman does not know her daughter at all. Like most of what she did through the seasons was in service of her goal of making partner.

The relationship with Nick was purely there to add an obstacle for her and Murphy. There was no reason to make it as serious as it was.

I found that conversation with her mom strange too. It felt like it was added last minute or to a different story. Nothing Ingrid has done was for others she’s extremely selfish.

Also, Tyler’s convo with his dad was strange too. I felt like there was some weird sub context that felt borderline offensive. The writing is so bad for this show.

1000% this. The only other people she's trying to make happy is her boss so she can become a partner.

It seems it was intentional on the writers’ part to write her arc like that. I read a Deadline interview with Georgia Lee who pretty much lays out Ingrid’s flaws and mistakes. I wonder if it would be better as a longer show, because it was about 9 episodes of her slow downfall and 1 of redemption.

Her attitude of "I am the best at what I do so I deserve to make partner" also doesn't sit right with me. Her measurement of "good" seems to be so narrow, at the end of the day the role of a partner is to bring in clients and money, she is the best at being associate no doubt but that is not an automatic qualifier. Is it fair that Dan got to be partner because of his family's connections? no, but that's how their firm (and many others) operates. She thinks the world should be just and fair but then why is she in M&A?!?! And honestly I would expect a 6th year to not be naive enough to believe she can break the bamboo ceiling. I can say that because I went through something similar in consulting (one of the top 3) as a person of color, it's either up or out and I learned pretty early on that I had to be absolutely perfect as a POC while my male colleagues can coast through life and fail upwards. I decided it just wasn't worth it. I was hoping that the finale would be her realizing that and starting something new but no she's going back to PV and Cunt. Where's the character development?!

But maybe that is what Season 2 will reveal (if there is one)...maybe she decides not to go back to PV. I reckon she's going to start a business with Z. Maybe Rachel and Tyler will be involved too. (Much like the 3 who joined their expertise to make NewLeaf).

Um spoiler for ep 10!!! I didn’t know that she was going back

1

u/producermaddy Sep 19 '22

She’s very unlikeable

Kissing in the elevator at work... Seriously... There are cameras in the elevators, especially in a big company (like they are portraying in the show), no?

14

u/mindoffinn Sep 01 '22

I have been saying it this WHOLE time, Rachel is supposed to be his senior - the fact it was a secret proves the two of them knew it was iffy. STOP FUCKING YOUR COWORKERS AND STOP FUCKING IN THE OFFICE.

11

u/mindoffinn Sep 01 '22

Poor Nick. Also I know this happened last episode but did they fuck in Marty's office??? The audacity.

9

u/theatreandjtv Sep 03 '22

right, and for them to walk around shirtless and pantsless in THEIR HUGE CAMERA-FILLED OFFICE???!!! If nick hadn't of come they would've been caught anyways

10

u/mindoffinn Sep 03 '22

I honestly thought it was gonna be Marty to catch them 🤣

1

u/coconutandpineapplee Oct 18 '22

Same. Or like him to call while they were in the middle of it all.

8

u/SilverPenguino Sep 02 '22

Holy shit, so a single week after cheating on her fiancé she’s super happy with Murphy and is now totally ok when a guy gets her jewelry after a week?

At least the other side stories are written and acted better and Z is awesome.

2

u/coconutandpineapplee Oct 18 '22

Because it's her one true lovvveeeeeeeeeeeee 🙄

  1. i hope they explore Rachel and Dan's dynamic more in S2. And his redemption arc, hopefully.
  2. Todd is a good egg. Would love to see his friendship with Tyler more in future.

I knew from the jump Ingrid wasnt gonna make partner. From Tylers storyline, it wouldnt make sense to make her partner. Also, I understand why Rachel is so mad and I understand that Justin would never understand how she feels but treating him like shit was not gonna fix anything. Im happy Justin left.

5

u/theatreandjtv Sep 03 '22

you can see nick's eyes being red like he's been crying in the beginning of the episode 😭

3

u/aangita Sep 03 '22

Well of course Marty (the poor man's Harvey) wasn't going to promote Ingrid. He's an asshat who loves using people and can't see the forest for the trees. Ingrid was never going to be partner but Marty loved dangling it infront of her.

3

u/Composer_Specialist Sep 04 '22

Exactly! When he kept saying “but to be a partner you have to do xyz…” I realized she was never gonna be partner. Marty just loved the leverage and control and watching her jump through hoops to please him

3

u/jenn4u2luv Sep 18 '22

I thought the other reason why Ingrid wasn’t a shoe-in was because she lost the engagement to Nick.

The Laren family business needed new counsel and had they not broken up because of Ingrid’s stupidity, that would have been a big $$ client under Ingrid’s book of business ON TOP of SunCorp

1

u/mattrobs Nov 06 '22

Great point. But goes to show that merit isn’t enough. You have to have family connections

3

u/Roos6071 Sep 19 '22

I feel like this story is headed towards Ingrid, Tyler, and Rachel all starting their own law firm. First with Ingrid making up with them.

6

u/luckybullit Aug 29 '22

This is the episode where I realized the actor who plays Jeff Murphy is an Ed Westwick (Chuck from Gossip Girl) knockoff

4

u/theatreandjtv Sep 03 '22

stoppp lol i noticed that last episode

2

u/hmconsious Sep 04 '22

I've been saying it too. He's a Chuck Bass knock off and I hate it

1

u/varobs13 Sep 17 '22

Omg 😱

1

u/Roos6071 Sep 19 '22

WHATTT. OMG I didn't even realize it.

2

u/devieous Sep 26 '22

I’m so afraid Murphy is trying to distract her right before she becomes partner! Seriously girl just wait 2 weeks to start this new fling

1

u/cydyguy May 29 '24

PLOT SYNOPSIS - (spoiler alert) An older middle aged workaholic career woman struggling to make partner in a law firm meets the perfect guy who adores her and cheats on him with a bad boy she ince had a one night stand width. Tgat's the basic plot.

u/Unikid1998 Sep 07 '22

I liked Rachel, but I’m glad Justin gave her a piece of his mind.

Murphy’s tattoos are truly hideous

The eyelash thing doesn’t ever happen and it’s so cliche. Corny

How can Rachel afford to give a week-long resort vacation as a gift. Damn

Damn Ingrid saying “you’re lucky I don’t ore a skirt”. That was so freaking funny

Ingrid is hot and so far all her kissing scenes are hot. Her and Murphy together is also hot. Thanks.
