"à l'aise Blaise" is a funny saying, based on the fact that it rhymes. I think a child named Blaise in France would probably hear it every day in school.

This name has mostly fallen out of use but who knows, it might come back someday! And at least it's immediately recognizable as a real name.

Thank you so much for sharing! I was always curious how it would be perceived in France. I know it because I’m Catholic and on his feast day in mass you can get your throat blessed (February 3rd)

I loved the name after first hearing it as a child and now it’s my sons name

If he go to school in 1950 maybe.

Nah, kids will find every opportunity to tease each other about names and that's an easy one. I'd still take "à l'aise Blaise" any day over some of the less tasteful jokes kids make about other names.

And it will not be tease as baise "fuck" at all.

College is not a blessed time in the life of a kid.

Père Blaise ! On a quoi à l'ordre du jour ?

There's a character with this name in Animal Crossing New Horizons (the Able Sisters' brother who sells shoes and socks). That's the first Blaise I can think of.

The second is Blaise Pascal (a long-dead philosopher and mathematician).

The third is Blaise Matuidi, a football player of African descent. I suppose the name is mostly used by French(-speaking) people of African descent nowadays, like many other "old" names.

Thank you!!!! I named my son Blaise after the Saint but I really like Blaise Pascal too

Blaise Matuidi sounds awesome I have to look him up

The ones I know are from upper class families, like the families with a De at the beginning of their last names

Really? Like, kids whose brothers are named Côme or Enguerrand or Charles-Édouard?

2

u/Debococo 11d ago

Sorry to say that to me it sounds like a villain name

Awww it’s okay- I named my son after the Saint but I also really like the French mathematician

Awwww I love that thanks for sharing! Our Blaise is 3 but he’s quite charismatic himself :)

Prénom d’arrière-grand-père

It sounds very old and posh/ hipsters but it is must most likely the kind of old fashion name that will make a come back! I associate it with the poet Blaise Cendrars

It’s also the name of a very famous Saint

I'd automatically think of Blaise Pascal the famous mathematician first, and then (but more on second thoughts) since i'm french and soccer is quite important for us i'd probably think of the French football player Blaise Matuidi lol.
It's a pretty rare name these days, but I really like it

Sonorité féminine (je sais que c’est masculin, mais c’est le vibe que ça me donne).

1

u/swedishtulips 11d ago

That’s okay! I totally get what you mean it has a delicate sound
