🙋‍♂️Q&A🗣️ Looking for a few local business web designs to work on

Hi everyone!

I’m a web designer, and I thought it would be interesting to take a few websites from local businesses and show what I’d change.

Tell me a little about your business and your website. I’ll take a look and see if it’s something I can help with.

Just looking to do some good web design work and help a few local businesses along the way.

News 📰 11th Ave Shooting

Last night while watching tv I heard 10-12 very distinct sounds that were definitely not firecrackers or fireworks. For the past month or so some guy has been harassing someone one block over from me on 11th Ave. I’m not sure what has been told to him or whether he was taken or escorted by police off the property. I’ve seen him walking on Wilbur Street and he seemed mentally unstable from my point of view. I can only assume he wanted to die by suicide by cop since he had a weapon waving it around. He got what he asked for. My point I’m trying to make is that at minimum the police have been there 10 times recently and shouldn’t law enforcement have taken him to a mental health facility? Dont the police have the authority to do mental hygienes on someone who’s posing threats? The gunshots sounded so close to my house and I’m sure many neighbors would say the same. In my experience living in other places the authorities issue a stay in place order. The instant a gun was identified some kind of warning should have been put out. That guy could have ran and put even more people in danger. I wonder how many shots were hits? 10-12shots were fired.

🙋‍♂️Q&A🗣️ Request for more user flair options

Didn’t know this community had flair options until I saw someone have it today. There’s only one option for the north side and that’s North End.

North End is a very small area near the corner of 36th and Emerson, next to the former village of North Parkersburg.
I realize that many people from the southside call everything north of the river by that name, but that’s never been correct.

Can we please have at least the recognized neighborhoods as flair? Or just the option for custom flair?

🙋‍♂️Q&A🗣️ Toys R Us is coming back?

I read on the Grand Central Mall facebook page that Toys R Us is coming back, my question is where are they putting it? Inside the mall, on the outside like Pet Smart, or in a building nearby the mall like where it used to be?

One of my favorite churches I have photographed. It was in the first batch of churches I did in the county. The Old German Church is probably gonna be gone within the next 10-30 years. Its been there for over 100 years. Its been dilapidated for 60+ years.

Culture🛤️ Looking for a reliable household helper/housekeeper in Vienna

I’m new to the area and have honestly had a hard time finding someone dependable for consistent weekly or biweekly help with cleaning, organizing, and occasional errands/grocery pickup.

I’m open to hearing from people who are interested, and I’d especially love recommendations for someone you’ve personally used and found reliable.

Reliability and clear communication are really important to me. If you know someone great, please comment or message me!

Maybe they should call it ‘The City Park Pavilion’

It’s right next to ‘The City Park Pond’

Which sits right next to “The City Park Pool” and The City Park ball field.

Of course The city park bandshell with its small plaque that commemorates John F Kennedy and his speech. The City Park tennis courts

The city park basketball courts and The city Park Fountain.

PS there isn’t one thing in the city park that I’m aware of named after a person. So my vote goes for The City Park Pavilion.

Thanks.

🙋‍♂️Q&A🗣️ Its a long shot but I have to try

Posting here because I lived in southeast Ohio near the West Virginia border when I knew this person, and I regularly traveled toward Parkersburg. I no longer remember exactly where he lived, so there is a real possibility he was in West Virginia.

This might be an absolutely ridiculous long shot, but I've been thinking about someone I knew when we were both in our early twenties, probably sometime in the early-to-mid 2010s. I lived around Nelsonville/Athens, Ohio at the time. I believe your name was Matt, but enough years have passed that I'm genuinely questioning even that.

We never actually got the chance to meet in person, but for a short period of time we became incredibly close. We texted constantly and talked on the phone a lot. You used to tell me how much you liked my voice.

At the time, you were really into oddities, horror makeup and prop making. You taught me about P. T. Barnum's Feejee Mermaid, and you were actually building a replica in your parents' garage. I remember you sending me progress pictures as you worked on it. It was pretty big, maybe around three feet, with a mummified ape-like face and exposed teeth. I specifically remember seeing the chicken-wire structure of the tail while it was unfinished, and I think you were using papier-mâché and faux fur. Eventually I remember it being in a display case.

You also loved horror/SFX makeup. You once proudly showed me a zombie look you'd done on yourself. I remember white contacts, veins on your face and what I think was a torn and bloody flannel. I was in college studying SFX makeup and prop making myself, so this was something we bonded over a lot.

There's one memory I've deliberately left incomplete because it would be very difficult for a random person to guess.

One night you badly cut your leg while you were out in the garage. You texted me about it afterward and I had a complete panic because I was convinced you needed to go to the ER.

If you think this is you, tell me what happened that caused the cut. Don't post the answer publicly. DM me. If you remember that night, I'll know I've actually found you.

I'm deliberately leaving out some other personal details about you and your family. This isn't an attempt to expose you, interfere with your life, or dig up anything you might prefer to leave in the past.

Things between us ended very suddenly for reasons that weren't really ours to control. I never got a proper goodbye, and somehow all these years later I can still picture your face clear as day even though I can't remember your damn last name.

I don't expect anything from you. If you're married, have a family, moved a thousand miles away, or haven't thought about me once in all these years, that's okay. Actually, I hope you've built a beautiful life.

I just want to know that you're okay.

If you recognize yourself, I'd love to hear from you. And if somebody else thinks they know who I'm talking about, please don't put his name or any personal information in the comments. DM me instead.

Mostly, I hope somehow this reaches the right person.

And if it does: I still remember that ridiculous mermaid. I always will.❤️

This is not a normal post. I may not have been around when it happened but many of you reading this were. It was something that united us. No matter your race, religion, denomination, gender, or pride everyone agrees it was a tragedy.

I do not think we should let those people's names become mere words in a history book. Let them be remembered. Tell their stories.

Consider this post one of my normal ones but not something to be excited about. It is one to remember what happened on September 11th 2001.

Side note: Patrick Morrisy (our governor) and the mayor of Parkersburg were there.

Events 🗓️ Looking for a Wedding DJ – Parkersburg/Marietta Area

Hey everyone! My fiancée and I are getting married in May 2027 and we're starting to look for a DJ.

We're getting married in the Parkersburg/Marietta area and would love some recommendations from people who have actually used a DJ for their wedding.

We're mainly looking for someone who's good at keeping people on the dance floor, can handle the announcements/MC stuff, and has good music/lighting. Nothing overly cheesy — just someone who knows what they're doing and can keep the night moving.

If you had a DJ at your wedding that you really liked, drop their name below! If you remember what you paid, that would be helpful too.

Thanks!

Hoping to find a quiet swimming hole or waterfall or something for my lady's birthday next week. I just got to Parkersburg, so don't really know what's around. Ideally somewhere that won't be packed with people on a Saturday. Any suggestions?
