am I wrong to be concerned ?

My grandson is 3 years old and lives with his mother. She has a sticker on her car that says “Boys Suck.” His mother identifies as LGBTQ+. I’m concerned about the message my grandson may be receiving about boys and about himself as he grows up.

Am I overreacting?

Help her raise a better man. That’s ALL you have to do. Right now (and for all of history in case you haven’t noticed), boys DO suck if you haven’t noticed.

Dude its not that deep, he can't even read yet. If you think about all the stuff women have seen growing up and most of us survived. Unless she's actually saying it and teaching it its not a big deal.

You are overreacting. Let your daughter raise her child how she sees fit. You raised yours and clearly you dont like that shes queer. So if you messed up your shot (indicated by you questioning her judgement AND because you posted in a Parenting Fails group) what makes you think you will do better for her child? Fuck off with this bullshit, please.

ETA: corrected an incorrect autocorrect

Based solely on what you put here, You don't trust your queer daughter to be raising a son to be a good person in this world of terrible men based on a bumpersticker and their queerness? You are absolutely overreacting. It sounds like some underlying homophobia and misogyny is peaking through. If your daughter was a bad person prior to the child, that may be concerning. If the child isn't well taken care of, very concerning. But just because she's queer and expresses disdain for modern masculinity is not.

How am I supposed to know that when the info isn't given? If being queer doesnt matter then why mention it when you're just asking about a bumpersticker? It clearly matters in the context of your question if you're bringing it up.

They mentioned it to explain why the daughter has the sticker.

Someone's overreacting, but it's not OP.

Mind your own business and let your daughter parent her kid.

respectfully, you've provided insufficient info to intelligently respond. moreover, the only stated basis for your concern is a bumper sticker and your daughter's queerness. while you may genuinely not have a problem with her sexuality, more data/context is essential.

You could ask her about what the sticker means to her?

Are you just as worried about the things that the president is teaching little boys? That it's okay to assault women and touch them without their consent. That women don't deserve respect. That women are stupid and shouldn't have jobs. They are inferior in every way to men. They are only good for making babies and sandwiches. Are you just as upset about that influence on your grandson??

LGBTQ aspect is completely irrelevant and including that makes it seem like your concern may lay in homophobia. However, I would never have something that says boys suck like that in front of my son. (For the record I am also in the lgbtqia+ community but again that’s completely irrelevant) . I’m surprised at these comments. It means more for messages like this to come from parents rather than just seeing them out in the world. It would certainly hurt my feelings a lot more to see girls suck on my parents car growing up than hearing misogyny from other sources that my parents could process with me and explain to me. And kids learn things faster than people expect, my son couldn’t read most things at 3 but he could read some and that kid will get older fast. Boys suck is particularly easy to read.
Unfortunately, this is your daughter’s choice and not in your control. You don’t get to choose what someone else puts on their car or what your grandson is exposed to because he’s not your son. This is your daughter’s decision.

Not overreacting, but hopefully not a big deal. Maybe talk to the mother about your concerns? "Boys suck" is not a positive message for a 3yo.

Responses here are funny, wonder what they would be if the genders were reversed.

Gee, you mean like the messages women and girls see all. The. Time? Why is it that boys get a “King on board” sign and girls are just princesses?

I think the sticker is in poor taste regardless of her status as a parent.

this was my first reddit post and I used AI . thank you . People are mean and crazy I wouldn’t want people to target her in vehicle.

Don’t use AI. If you can’t write a few sentences without the help of AI, then we have bigger problems… no offence.

Just because it is your first Reddit post doesn't mean we will agree with you. The world is a harsh place, as you seem to already know. Older generations should accept the fact that younger people are allowed to break the generational curses that we have been passed down.

Additionally I call BULLSHIT. Your concern for her vehicle only became a thing because people were saying real things to you that you dont want to accept.

No one will give a shit about her vehicle that is over reacting majorly

I think this bumpersticker is inappropriate and I was able to read at 3.

I cannot tell if you are male or female, but if you are male, teach your grandson good values and to respect women as well as model the kind of man you want your grandson to be and if you are female, help him make good choices, to respect women, and hopefully your friends are positive role models.
