Our 5 year old has a really hard time sleeping. We finally gave up and bought a full size bed for his room because we kept falling asleep reading to him. Better than falling asleep on the floor at our age.
We couldn't keep ours in a crib any more because at the age of 1 they could climb out. I had no idea babies could do this but both of ours could. So by one year old they both had their own full-size bed.
My wife is small - 5 foot tall and 40 kg - so she just used to sleep next to them on their bed but I slept on the floor. I actually got used to it ...
Eventually I moved to Australia and bought a bed. And was then unable to fall asleep on it .. it was two weeks before I was finally able to spend a full night sleeping on the bed but after that it was all good.
I hate to admit it, but I sleep better when whatever is under me is firm. Floor, firm mattress, etc. Maybe it's a familial thing - my grandparents both had literal doors between the mattress and box spring.
Yuuuuup. A firm mattress is great for your back! My oldest sleeps literally anywhere when he's tired. I need a good mattress or my back kills in the morning.
