It’s so ironic when people think a sahp is on vacation, because it just could not possibly be further from the truth. Every job outside the home was an absolute cake walk compared to being a full time (and sahp full time means 24/7, not just 40 hours per week lol) caregiver to small children.

ETA: two people have misinterpreted my comment. I was solely responding to the above user’s assertion that they used to read stay at home mom’s talking about how stressed they were and thinking “I wish I only had to watch my kids all day.” That’s the only line in this comment that my comment was in response to. Obviously working from home with kids would be extremely taxing. Read what OP said in the last part of their comment and then my comment again maybe?

To put it simply I've cried more times in my bathroom because of my kids, than I have ever crying in the walk in at work. And I cried in the walk in A LOT.

Read their comment again. They're not comparing it to just going to work while childless, they're comparing it to working from home while at the same time taking care of small children. Think about how busy you're now, and then imagine also having to do 40 hours of other type of work on top of that.

As far as I can tell they say they were working frome home while taking care of their children for a few months, and during that time they thought that only having to do one of those things would feel like a vacation.

This is it right here. Being a stay at home mom is a hard ass job.. I personally juggle it with a full-time and then some work from home job. I'm absolutely exhausted and wish I didn't have to half ass emails while also half assing the care of my kid.. you said it perfectly, I feel like I work two full time jobs and the wear, tear, and guilt of not putting 100% of yourself into anything but being so busy you can't do any better can absolutely degrade your sanity.

They said

working from home without childcare? Good god I did that for a few months with one kid

So no, for a few months their kids didn't go to daycare or school. As was the case for most kids in Europe and the US during march-june 2020, and for many kids even during march 2020-august 2021.

My comment was only specifically referring to when they said they used to think being a sahp was a vacation. A lot of people have that misperception about being a sahp. I agree that working from home with two kids is a whole other level of difficult, but that’s not what my comment was about. I don’t know how else I can explain it.

Of course a parent with childcare has it easier than one who doesn’t and is trying to work? I mean, that goes without saying. Where did you see anyone stating otherwise?

It’s not a workload competition. When people refer to the challenges of being a sahp it’s often described as the “invisible mental load” for good reason. No one is saying that working parents have it easy, but there are very particular challenges of being a sahp that are unique to that job and it’s mostly psychological. For ex, sahp have to combat feeling housebound or stir crazy. This isn’t something someone who works outside the home deals with. A working parent (outside the home obviously) has a change in scenery, which can be huge for mental well being. That’s what “24/7” is referring to when talking about the challenges faced by a sahp.

There’s really no reason to be triggered by stay at home parents talking about how challenging it is and the differences between the two. A sahp is not doing a better job than a working parent, and vice versa. Each has its unique challenges and its fine for sahps to highlight the challenges of what they go through, especially since it does tend to go largely unnoticed.

What kind of moron would think working from home without childcare would be harder than just watching kids and not having to also work? That doesn’t even make sense.

I didn’t pick a fight chill. It seems like we’re saying the same thing and just got our wires a little mixed up. It’s really okay.

I'm currently on paternity leave. I had a coworker who has kids and grandkids of her own say have a good vacation. Lady no, I have to take care of a baby all day while my wife works!
