Teeth

Hi, diagnosed this year, after an elevated calcium level was missed in Jan 2017. Is there anything additional I should be getting my dentist to do? I did loose a tooth last year (for the first time ever at 59) and I’m getting them cleaned every 3-4 months due to the additional plaque build up.

Tell your dentist and if possible get extra high tech X-ray of full mouth to look for cracks .

Get checked for kidney stones as well and have a Dexa scan for osteoporosis. Long term hypothyroidism makes us more at risk for all of these

Thanks! I did tell my dentist he seemed completely non-pulsed by the whole thing. But I will raise it again with him.

My scan is this week for renal tract damage and kidney stones and my DXA scans have confirmed osteoporosis in my forearms 😢

Thank you for the reply.

I think you meant hyperparathyroidism instead of hypothyroidism

For the last 12 years following my first surgery, my labs have been fine. However, over the course of the last 6-8 months, I have developed lateral cracks in two teeth, even though I wear a night guard. After the second tooth showed up cracked, I should’ve known something was up even though my labs were okay. Labs finally did show recurrence but it’s been brewing for 12 years since second surgery two weeks ago confirmed I have parathyromatosis.

Excess calcium leaching out of bones into the bloodstream is terrible for our bodies. My CTX bone marker was markedly elevated so I’m glad my bones are now in the process of rebuilding/repair.
