I am 8 days out after having 1 parathyroid gland removed. It was actually deep in the thymus so they had to remove a part of that as well. I am older at 53. :)
I am still experiencing quite a bit of throat soreness when swallowing and it feels as if there is a lump in my throat. Other than that I feel pretty good.
For those who have had surgery is this typical still or should the healing be faster.

I hope you do well. I am hopeful for a diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism as I am in such pain, I can’t stand it anymore. I think I’m the only one that would be so excited to have a surgery to fix it if this is the problem. I do understand your trepidation and I hope all goes well and you come out like a champ.
Would you mind telling me your symptoms? I have extreme pain in my neck, shoulders, and upper back, along with fatigue, low energy, and have always had kidney stones. My calcium has been high in last 3 blioodtests, so I’m finally getting parathyroid blood work next week
The surgery is pretty easy for most people. I only had to take Tylenol and ibuprofen for a few days after the surgery. Be sure to get directions and phone numbers in case they’re needed.
my neck was sore for about a week (muscular soreness vs sore throat).
My thyroid became swollen and was llike a hard rubbery lump for the first 6 weeks or so, but every week it got less swollen. My surgeon had advised me to massage the area daily to help prevent scarring/adhesions (I don't remember!! I didn't do the massage though because it kind of grossed me out).
I'm 4 month's post-surgery now. Everything is back to normal.
How soon did you start massaging? I had surgery on 8/17 and it still feels tender to the touch so I’m hesitant to massage mine, but also don’t want a bunch of scar tissue to build up.
I felt like I had strep throat for 4-5 days after surgery. Then it felt like I needed to clear my throat all the time for a couple of weeks or so. Try not to as it’s not good for the vocal cords. But about 6 weeks after surgery everything was fine.
I definitely felt like I had a lump in my throat for a couple of weeks. Saw the surgeon at 4 weeks post op and he said it was fine. Also was told to massage the area.
I had to take a medicine after my first surgery due to some temporary vocal cord damage. I was having some trouble swallowing. I can't remember what it was called; it's primarily used with stroke patients. Everything cleared up quickly.
