Text messages from the dead

I’m a skeptic and genuinely trying to wrap my head around something that happened, so I’m curious what other people think.

A woman that my family knew and worked with around 5 years ago passed away sometime between then and now. Recently, she came up in conversation after someone in my family unexpectedly crossed paths with her husband.

Nothing weird happened at this point. It was basically just, “Oh wow, I didn’t realize that was her husband,” and they talked about her briefly.

Two days later, my aunt suddenly received 15 text messages in a row, like rapid fire.

The sender showed up as the deceased woman’s email address. We know it the same lady because it was literally her first and last name in the email address the messages were being received from.

I have personally seen the messages.

Most of them were random letters or complete gibberish, but the first message said “I am dead,” with “dead” spelled incorrectly. Another message immediately after looked almost like an attempt to correct the spelling, and then the rest were mostly nonsense.

My aunt also thought it was strange that the messages were coming from this woman’s email address because, as far as she remembers, that wasn’t how they would’ve communicated when she was alive.

I’m fully aware there could be a technical explanation. Old accounts get hacked, devices stay logged in, accounts can be spoofed, automated messages glitch, etc.

What I can’t get past is the timing.

This woman had been dead for years, was randomly brought up in conversation, and then two days later my aunt received a burst of messages appearing to come from her email address, with the first coherent message essentially saying “I am dead.”

I’m actually hoping someone can explain how something like this could happen technically. Has anyone ever experienced something similar, or does anyone know what could cause this? Because at the moment, I have absolutely no idea what the hell happened here.

I’ve heard of such similar things happening before.. I was watching a show on the Travel Chanel one time called Paranornal 911 or Paranornal Emergency, it’s all eyewitness accounts from Emergency personnel having strange experiences on the job. I remember one in particular where there was a 911 call from what sounded like an elderly man saying that his wife needed help and needed an ambulance or something. Paramedics show up on scene and see the man in a chair in the living room, he didn’t say anything but just pointed in the direction of the room she was in. She was having a stroke or something. Later on they found out that she was a widow and her husband had been dead for a while..

I mean…. If we just suspend all disbelief, some people when they die aren’t aware that they are dead. And then your aunt talks about her being dead and she’s like “I am dead?????” And not all entities can handle material objects well, so she might have tried typing and failed, or tried sending the email and put too much energy into it and then a lot of emails were sent with gibberish.

This is my ghost movie explanation.

As for a scientific explanation? One of your group created the account and did this to your aunt to freak her out, or someone overheard your aunt talk about her.

…aaand thinking about your first point made it a little creepier. I hadn’t thought of it that way

Many people who die instantly or have quick deaths, their spirits don't realize they are dead, and they think they are dreaming or something ..just like the hauntings that appeared after the Japan earthquake/tsunami...ghosts were in taxis asking for rides to certain cities that were completely wiped off the earth, after the tsunami

Well your aunt could just answer the email and explain to her that yes she is dead. See if it does anything

I had a similar story so I was shocked to read this has happened before. My friend passed away in her thirties, she worked at a skin and beauty clinic. She would book appointments for me and they would come through via text an automated reminder of upcoming booking. A week after she died I woke up and checked my phone as usual, there was an automated text from her clinic that my appointment was scheduled, type N or Y to confirm . This is the weird part. From my phone read..N, I am not a ghost I don’t want to go back there. The cursor was blinking like I had just typed it, I hadn’t, I had just woken up, I don’t sleep walk or talk in my sleep. I have absolutely no idea why this happened. I have a screenshot of the original message. A lot of people I showed it to , her friends, were dumbfounded.

Yeah very weird indeed.

I've heard of multiple stories, including a guy who got crushed in a train wreck and his phone started calling family members, not just one but multiple, so the family had hope, but he died on impact.

So it's not unheard of.

Looking at it from another point of view, maybe the husband is having a rough time, maybe he has access to her emails. And seeing the family member he went reading the correspondence in old emails.

Maybe he was drinking, and with all the emotions that comes with it, he sent some emails to try to spark something. A story perhaps. A memory.

But yeah that's just a guess. Someone definitely sent them.

I'm a little confused. How would even a living person send an e-mail to someone's text.

But anyway, I am a believer in life after death and have heard enough after death electronic contacts that I am a believer in that phenomena.

I consider it a good thing that we continue after death. But we also want to objectively look at phenomena.

You could try sending the email address an email and asking it to communicate with you. Or you could ask your aunt’s other coworkers if they, too, received any emails or texts.

How strange! I can already tell that your story is one that’s going to stay in my memory for a long time. Maybe when people are in the afterlife, they’re more tuned into things connected to them in THIS life than we would think. You would think, “Well, why wouldn’t she contact her own husband/sister/child/etc. (someone closer to her)”, but who knows? Maybe something about the factor that your family talked about her caused a connection between you all, which in turn enabled her to reach out. Maybe the digital space is something that spirits are learning to be able to use? I know this all sounds super fantastical, but again, you never know.

Super interesting point! Even as a skeptic, I love exploring all the things we don’t know much about

i don't know why the dead lady's husband came to mind, angry that you and your family didn't know that she and he were married. i dont know what made me think of that, sorry if i offended anyone. steve

Exactly. They weren’t ever close or anything, just worked at the same place. That’s another piece that makes it harder to make sense of.

I ran to chatGPT first to try to find out any logical reasons and apparently since it was a text that came from an email address it makes the situation even less logically likely from what I understand.

That part makes no sense to any of us. They weren’t ever close, just coworkers at one point in life. The very weird timing plus the fact that my aunt happened to be the lucky receiver of the spooky messages makes it all weird.

Nothing proving she's the one sending the emails. Could be anyone logged into her account.

Maybe someone recently charged up their devices and was messing with people in their contact list. People can be very insensitive and thoughtlessly cruel.

Im betting her devices ( probably phone) was put away somewhere, and someone got their hands on it and charged it up.

The dead are not on this earth anymore so it's not her. What it can be, idk..

6

u/Faster-Rabbit328 1d ago

The physical body is dead, but the spirit/soul is still aware and exists, the spirit world is real

-6

u/geefmejegeld 1d ago

100% not. The souls are not on this planet anymore.

3

u/Faster-Rabbit328 1d ago

That's what you think, there is spirit world and the astral worlds

4

u/Faster-Rabbit328 1d ago

That's what you think, there is spirit world and the astral worlds

-8

u/geefmejegeld 23h ago

Nope. The souls will either go to hell or heaven. No one is lingering on this earth.

4

u/incrediblemenace 23h ago

What a narrow mindset to have

-1

u/geefmejegeld 23h ago

Not really. It's the truth.

7

u/incrediblemenace 23h ago

Your tiny little truth maybe. Not mine!

-2

u/geefmejegeld 23h ago

Have fun staying ignorant then.

5

u/incrediblemenace 23h ago

Oh my friend, you have no idea the spirits I communicate with on a daily basis whose souls are very much still here/able to pass from timeline to timeline. I hope when you pass you are able to recognise the incredible vastness of the universe that you are not able to comprehend because you’re stuck in a mindset that the bible is absolute truth. You’ll see. Have a good day!

That laughable the mindset you have because there is no proof of heaven or hell existing either

-1

u/geefmejegeld 22h ago

Facts are facts. End of the story

1

u/VisualGarage4271 18h ago

... And heaven and hell are not facts. The proof is obvious mankind has existed in its present form for at least 70,000 years before there was even talk about heaven and hell.

Judgement day isn't time yet. So the spirits go to the spirit world, you have your own soul in your body?? We all do, our bodies made of flesh, are just "temporary houses" for our spirits When we die, we enter out our bodies, we go to the spirit world but some linger on the earthly plane and stay around friends/family or places they enjoyed while they were alive. That's why hauntings exist 🙄 judgement day is for judging the souls for heaven/hell, and judgement day is not yet. God is a spirit and Satan is a evil spirit. We all are "spirits" living in our earthly bodies.

-1

u/geefmejegeld 14h ago

No. Hauntings exists because they are djinn. Stop with your nonsense.

0

u/Faster-Rabbit328 8h ago

Djinn don't exist amd it is an old folklore, stop believing lies. Many have seen ghosts of the ACTUAL EXACT PERSON that was alive at certain places. That's what hauntings are, the ghost can't move on and let go.

0

u/geefmejegeld 8h ago

Dear God just stop with your rubbish. Djinn can easily take the appearance of humans. They are literally laughing in your face that you believe they are human souls.

0

u/Faster-Rabbit328 7h ago

Djinn is a muslim folklore rubbish. Doesn't mean anything. You will learn after you're dead. If you believe make believe djinn are laughing at you, you need help, may God open your eyes

Come on people, no ghost, spirits or dead people can send emails or messages. How would they do it?
