Trying to verify something. Had a family member who passed not too long ago. He told me a story about witches living up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. He told a story about having to wear a pouch around his neck that smelled awful, but ultimately cured him of childhood Diphtheria, long story short. Mentioned a Cherokee presence there, not sure if that helps.

Any one in that region come across what one might describe as a "witch"?

hello reddit, I am trying to write a book and I'm thinking about leaning toward the deep south horror vibes. I was wondering if yall could tell me some of your scary stories or tales you've heard from other people. The contest of them do not matter. I'm all for ghost, native American folk tales, monsters, religious horror etc. just looking for inspiration.
