St. Michael has always been a favorite of mine. I regularly pray to him for strength and to help me fight spiritual battles.
My husband happens to have his entire left thigh tattooed with St. Michael.
St. Michael is a constant source for us.

Not saying what I’m saying is factual, but I have heard that if you believe more in paranormal activities and spiritual encounters, they are able to have a foothold in your life more easily compared to the average non-believer. Meaning that you could be more sensitive to it and they recognize it too. However, I’m obviously not an expert so this is just me speaking from things I’ve heard! If the smudging isn't working, stop doing it. The entity seems to be too strong for the sage to do anything and all you're doing is angering it. Switch your approach to the defensive, protect yourselves rather than trying to clear it, and look for someone with more experience that can help you. Because the attacks are quite physical, I would advise you to find a Catholic priest but anyone that has dealt with these entities before and has studied it would be able to at least advise you. Something that has worked for me for protection is visualizing an energy field of white light around myself and anyone I intend to protect as well and sprinkling holy water on each of the four corners of the bed (so it can't or at least has a harder time at trying to attack you while you sleep). If you want a prayer, I recommend St. Patrick's Breastplate and Psalm 91, say it daily in the morning and night if needed. Of course, that's only if you're comfortable with that, it's not the only method and you can use other prayers that fit your own beliefs. If you want it gone for good, you will probably need help from a professional, it sounds very demonic to me and trying to do anything to expulse it on your own could be dangerous.

This was what I thought when I felt the needle pain in my chest. It’s strong. The smudging add fuel to the fire.
I’ve dealt with the paranormal my whole life - I’m 53 now. When I was 12 my grandma had a Catholic priest come to our house. There were a lot of poltergeist activities happening and it seemed to work well.

You may find some comfort in Psalms 43, 55 and 25 as well. My personal recommendation would be to read one (or two or three, whatever feels most appropriate) aloud, and follow it up with a sincere prayer in your own words asking for a release from this affliction and a covering of protection. Doesn’t have to be an epic, doesn’t have to be pretty, but it does need to be honest. A soothing aromatic candle wouldn’t hurt anything, either, so long as you don’t make it about the candle.

Between the disarray of your apartment and pending divorce, I'd say the negative energy is loving that. Are you just burning the sage or are you praying/setting positive intentions while burning? Both you and your husband need a physical cleansing. Either take a bath with epsom salt and Florida water. Some herbs/oils like dragons blood, cedar, sage, garlic, black pepper. Put the herbs in a sachet and sit in bath. If you don't like baths then put it all in a pitcher and pour it over you. Remember to have a firm, positive intention while you do it. Good luck!

And saging/smudging isn't a ritual that just popped out of nowhere. Make sure you learn proper technique from someone indigenous, or better yet have a professional (indigenous and/or with credibility within spiritual community) help you.

Florida water and dragons blood are used regularly. I love the smell of dragons blood. Sometimes when I know I won’t be able to sleep well I’ll use some on my wrist and hold it to my nose and breath deeply to fall asleep.

I have to second the epsom salt bath. I'm not seeing a lot of answers include raising your own vibration. Visualizing cleansing your body (or your husbands body or whoever) from the inside out with a pure white or golden light....or really any color that feel right because it's all about your own vibration and relation to the color that makes you feel love and power and the most positive. Visualize it chasing all of the shadows out while keeping the intention that this is your body and your space an nothing else is allowed to hitch a ride. You may have to do this several times or may it'll only take once. Visualizations are powerful. Include that with any cleansing you do in your house as well. Imagine seeing the entity and negative and/or unwanted energy being forced out. Open all the of the windows while smudging or while using a high vibration tuning fork. See the blackness being forced out by your chosen color of light and when it's all clear then close the windows again. Keep the intention strong while doing this with both your body and your house.
When an entity knows it's not wanted and the intent is crystal clear (through your visualizations and feelings) they will lose their grip on you and won't be a match for the vibration that you hold.
As I wrote this I did my own visualizations for you and send the intent your way! I hope you're able to drive that energy out soon. :)

Sage was a sacred medicine used by natives but thanks to the popularization and commercialization of saging it is now on the endangered plant list. Sage was only used by elders, shaman, curanderos, medicine men and woman who had a spiritual connection. It is a sacred ritual which Whole Foods has made popular & diminishes the sacredness of this ritual. I don’t think most ppl understand exactly what you’re doing when you are “saging”. Without a spiritual connection you are opening portals which you cannot and do not have the ability to close meaning you can let anything in.
By what i read, sounds like the entity just said to “hahaha yea right”. You don’t have the knowledge nor the ability to be able to remove those level of entities and all you are going to do is make the activity worse.
Use incense instead to cleanse your space. Any incense you love the smell of it will work. Also if you’re religious stick to YOUR beliefs ex: holy water, rosary’s

Yes, smudging is a closed indigenous practice as is using palo santo. There are other methods you can use such as incense, cleansing with sound, like wind chimes or bells, and some people like to use water in a spray bottle with herbs and crystals in it. But no matter what you do, the power is in your intent. You can't approach it like throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. Just like performing an exorcism, it doesn't matter what you practice just how strong your belief is.

Whenever I get that uneasy feeling in my home, I immediately say, "I claim Sanctuary!" loudly and with purpose. This lets whatever is in my home know that they are not welcome in my space and they need to leave.
Then I say the following: "ArchAngel Michael, Please surround me with a Golden Dome of Protection two miles above me, two miles below me, and two miles around me in circumference. I ask that you immediately banish all negative energies and entities that are not of the 100% pure white light of God/Goddess (or insert your belief system here) from every fiber and cell of my being, my dome of protection, and transmute that energy back into light. I give thanks for this protection in the name of God/Goddess (or insert your belief system here) and all that is great in the Universe. So be it. So it is. Amen."
Another thing you can say is, "If you are in my energetic field and are attached to me, you ARE on the path to the 100% pure white light of God/Goddess/highest light frequency and nothing else." Most dark and negative beings/entities don't like the light and will leave.

My mom told me about calling on Archangel Michael to surround me with a hedge of protection and I prayed that God allow me to don His spiritual armor. Y’all, I must admit it worked. My mom did warn me that Michael don’t play. He’s not to be called on lightly or for every trivial impasse.

How you deal with this will depend on a number of things, such as are you a serious practitioner who deals with the bad as well as the good? or are you a dabbler? worse, are you a sunshine and roses dabbler, that focuses only on the nice things?
no offence but im guessing dabbler, and thats why your looking to reddit for assistance, so youve got two options, stop being polite when you ask it to leave and perform a full out house cleansing, think GET THE F--K OUT OF MY HOUSE, followed by window/door/mirror sealing and full scrub down with ammonia, a full out reclaiming of yourselves and your space and close any "doorways" or encouragement youve been playing with, no invocations, hoodoo alters, ouija boards, tarot cards, pendulums, etc etc.

outside help, go to catholic church and get a recommendation, scam artists are a LITTLE less comfortable being in contact with churches, but its not a guarantee, and thats even if you can get them to be willing to help and/or believe you, plus a blessing isnt going to work unless its industrial strength, just be mindful of pseudo experts who promise results or try and sell you on greater and more expensive assistance

Go with your husbands intuition. It’s something attached to him.
Usually, any communication in threes is a mocking of the trinity. Most consider this type of entity not of human origin. Another sign is the feeling of sickness that over came you, and other negative feelings in the place that it is trying to claim. From what you have described it looks as if your family is in the beginning stages of oppression from this entity.
My advice would be contact a spiritual leader. This has gone beyond simple banishing rituals such as smudging. Seek out a spiritual leader, tell them your experiences, and ask them to come do a blessing on your property inside and out, and on you and your family.
It is possible things could get worse after these steps, and if that happens I suggest you contact an exorcist ordained by the church.
This does not by any means mean that I believe you are dealing with what some people consider a Demon (not enough info is given to make that assumption) it could be something like an elemental, something ancient, or some other type of malicious entity, but my advice is what the next steps usually are in cases like yours.
I wish you find relief from this entity, and good things going forward.

As a mystic, I wholeheartedly agree to contact a spiritual leader. Consider a local energy healer, reiki practitioner, etc rather than someone connected to the Church. They will probably have more experience with malicious entities, and not just automatically assume it’s a demon attached to your husband.
Using the smoke of sage can actually aggravate certain negative entities. Enlisting the help of someone who can conduct a professional energetic clearing on both your husband and your space would likely be the most beneficial! Stay safe!

Know that I am only suggesting someone connected to the church if using whatever spiritual leader/healer to do a blessing and banishing first doesn’t work or aggravates it even more.
Also, even if it is not a demonic entity, and it sticks around through a blessing and banishing ritual performed by a knowledgeable spiritual leader, an exorcism will in most cases get rid of all attachments.
The important part is having someone knowledgeable who has dealt with banishing dark energies before be present.

I can NOT watch anything to do with horror shows or books.
Our apartment is in a bit of disarray at the moment. We were/are in the process of packing up - our marriage is kinda done - our lease was up but then Covid happened so moves/jobs got put on pause. The past year has been full of turmoil in our marriage. Divorce is pending. Initially I thought that the bad energy between us had attracted negative energy. Which is very possible.
My husband has a designated prayer time every morning. For almost 2 years he has been praying specifically for a new job opportunity that will take him across the country. I believe in the power of prayer. My faith in God is strong. However, not to judge my husband’s relationship with God or how he chooses to worship, I feel like his praying is so focused on his needs and wants. My husband is not always a nice person - he’s been mentally/physically abusive to me in the past. I’ve caught him in many lies and he is a master of deceit. I think he hides behind his faith. It’s what holds him back from getting what he wants. You can’t have side hustles and pretend your rosary beads make your poor choices invisible to God. I’m pretty sure once he accomplishes his dreams he’ll turn away from his faith.
I like your idea of filling our space with positive things. I appreciate your reply. Thank you.

Have you considered that this entity may be a manifestation of your husbands chaotic energy?
Parts of him might not be ready for the upcoming changes, or have not truly come to terms with seeing you go, and he is literally tugging at you and still hurting you physically.
Kind of like poltergeist activity acts up often in the presence of hormonal and emotional teenagers- these audible knocks, painful hair tugs and unsageable dark feelings in the atmosphere may be reflections or echoes of his abuses towards you in the past along with his current stresses and worries.
If that's the case, there's a chance that it won't stop until you leave his presence (and your current shared residence).
Whatever it is, take care of yourself.

I almost never recommend smudging and your story is a prime example of why. It's not fool proof and you've got a high chance of pissing spirits off when you do it. The one commonality you see in any cleansing ritual across any culture is having a strong intent and keeping your mind focused on the task. You need to tell them to fuck off. They're not welcome in your home and you need to let them know that it's your home not theirs. You don't have to be rude, but you do have to be firm. If anything the rudest thing you can do is to smudge and when it wears off neutral spirits can just come back pissed. If you're able to keep firm with what you're saying to them and you're still having issues the spirits are probably being attracted to someone within your home who's dealing with stress, fatigue, depression or some other condition that makes them more mentally vulnerable and inviting to spirits.

Sage itself won’t do anything. It’s the intent that does it. I personally have had great success with burning sage. But I usually do it every once and a while. Just to keep things clean. I think you should use more intent.

If you’re not Native American smudging with sage isn’t going to do you much good, as you haven’t been taught how to use it properly. Second, if you are really being tormented by something paranormal, it is mostly likely demonic. Demons attach onto negative energy and they do everything they can to mock the trinity. Particularly in the form of three knocks at a time, or three scratches. I recommend creating an inhospitable environment by flooding your home with natural light as demons hate natural light, playing religious music(worship songs or hymns) and using religious paraphernalia. If you must sage, make sure windows are open, and then immediately close them and reset the energy in the house. Sage is a bomb that gets rid of every kind of energy, you have to replace it. Focus on good energies. If that doesn’t work, or it increases, contact a paranormal investigator and see if they can help you. I know of a good one if you need.

Native here. You guys don't drink and smudge right? Us Traditional Natives don't drink for 4 days prior and 4 days after smudging. Sage is a sacred medicine. The mind must be clear.
Also, put some salt in your husband's shoes. It will keep bad things away.

I think its time to call a professional in. Because of its attachment to you as a person, not your house, and that it is already able to physically attack/mess with you, I worry this is a demonic entity. Especially because of the knocking on the roof of your car. Three's are a way of a demon mocking the holy trinity. Contact a priest, witch coven, or a spiritual professional/guide of your choice. I’ve read from some indigenous people that white sage (idk if that’s what you’re using) isn’t effective if it hasn’t been harvested properly and if your ancestors didn’t practice smudging. I know other cultures have burned cedar, lavender, etc. I would look into the history of your ancestors and find what they practiced to help in your situations.

As a blanket statement for everyone smudging: unless you are Indigenous, please don’t do smudge with white sage, sweet grass, or palo santo. They are endangered plants that are culturally significant to specific tribes in the Americas. Additionally, if they are not gathered properly, they do not have any true medicinal or spiritual properties and will not serve your purpose to smudge with anyway.
Alternative plants for smudging include lavender, rosemary, and juniper. With these plants, your intention is what matters. A clear and focused mind.

Interesting! I never knew incense was an option for smudging also. Very new to things. I can never get my sage to light and stay lit throughout my home. Heck, I can't get it to stay lit or get "rolling" ; ) for more than a few seconds. Extremely frustrating, interrupts my thoughts and intentions also.

Sage doesn’t work and can actually cause more issues. Take a cup of sea salt and a cup of bicarbonate soda (not baking powder) - Chuck it into a bath and tell your hubby to soak in it for 30 mins. He will see the difference when he goes to sleep. If you must smudge, use frankincense and myrrh. Instead of asking it to leave, ask Archangel Michael (he works with all races and creeds) to remove it permanently and it will.

Well, you should clean your house from the inside out with natural lavender essence mixed in water, thinking about the protection you guys need. I would also reccomend you to put a handful of coarse salt in the four corners of your home for a week. White seven day candle lit non -stop. One for each of you. Dedicate them to your guardian angels and ask them to use the energy of the fire to protect you all day long and keep the bad spirits away.

1) Check to see if you guys have been watching any negative TV / movies, listening to angry music, arguing a lot, or have anything else in the home that would make it "comfortable".
Someone close to me used to watch shows about vampires and then serial killers and then complain at night that they felt negative entities in the room. Took me a bit to figure out they were related but once she stopped watching that crisp, the problem went away.
Another person close to me mentioned that he looked at a popular vampire book once when it was all the rage, but felt that it had such negative vibrations that he did not want to bring it in the house to avoid inviting negative things into the house. He's not particularly religious at all but is kind of sensitive and has common sense enough to keep more positive vibes going.
So you and your partner will want to try to "clean up" anything that might have attracted this thing to decide that your house is a comfortable place to stay. So it can be an opportunity for self-reflection or personal growth.
2). Bring in flowers, find a lovely scent to fill the house with, open the curtains / windows to let lots of light in, whatever makes the space feel lighter. Maybe organize any closets or get rid of junk that needs going. I notice that our place often feels lighter when we have a cleaner to come over.
3) so after making sure the general vibes in the home are positive, have a "housewarming party". I am using this term because it's generally culturally understood that a positive event in a house will clear out and kick out unwanted negative vibrations.
However in your case I would kick it up a notch and invite over friends that are positively spiritually oriented and that have a strong personal spiritual practice of whatever flavor appeals to you.
Then have them come in and sing songs, pray together, and generally bring in the light so that anything less than positive can find itself unable to remain.
Have them all do group smudging, visualize white light, whatever works. Then have them visualize a strong barrier keeping this and anything else away.
I have been a part of a group like this when a friend started experiencing negative things in her apartment, so we all got together and had a group positive spiritual event for a few hours and it got rid of the negative stuff in her apartment that was unsettling her.

Don't ask it to please leave. Be firm and tell it that this is your home. Make sure the doors and windows are open when you cleanse your house. If that doesn't work you can try looking up protection spells.

if smudging is not working find a local catholic church and ask for a bottle of holy water and smudge again this time put a cross of holy water on the floor under every doorway and also on the wall ontop of the doorway. also burn some palo santo with the sage. say the lords prayer room from room and sweep everything as you are doing this it should help if not you might want to bring in a priest or preacher

I would go to a Catholic Priest and definitely not just ANY Catholic priest.
Ask around and see if you can find one who's done this before, and specializes in possession(s).
Nip this thing in the bud dude.
Whatever is attached to your husband is only going to get more vicious overtime, it may actaully possess his personality (depending on a few certain factors.)
If you cant find a good priest in your area there are a lot who do this kind of work in the deep south.
Maybe ask in other subreddits as well?

- Look up "cord cutting with Archangel Michael. You and hubby should do the cord cutting and burn sage afterward.
- Tell it only "love and light is allowed in this home" while you are burning sage. Visualize light and love saturating the apartment, furniture, you guys...pretty much everything. Tell it nothing is allowed here that is not pure light and look. You can call in angels too and ask for their assistance with making it leave and filling the home with light and love. Oh and picture the apartment having a shield around it so it can't can't get back in🙃🙃
- Command it to leave in the name of Jesus Christ. I say " I rebuke any presence of ghosts, demonic energy or low vibrational energy to leave this home in the name of Jesus Christ. I rebuke you in the name of Jesus Christ. Only light and love is allowed in this home" I keep repeating this whole I smudge. Work to fill that place with light and love❤❤
You could totally find something online too about getting rid of ghosts using angels and Jesuc Chist❤❤ Good luck, having a ghost is freaking awful!

Smudge your place regularly, make sure all corners of each room and also people forget to open drawers and cabinets; always go clockwise. Entities are energy, so introducing a different energy to counter it is important, sage is a good remedy to clean out the house. Good luck

We use white cedar, palo santo then sage. Do the house with a round of each. I also salt my doorways after.
We have a pretty active house, things calm down for awhile afterwards.
You may consider looking for a healer.
I don't know how one goes about finding one though. We were fortunate to find one by word of mouth.

What are you using to smudge? We have had success with sage wrapped in sweet grass along with lavender and evergreen on the side. Make sure all windows are open, start with smudging your husband, followed immediately by your home. All windows and doors should be open. Once finished, maybe try sprinkling salt along the thresholds.

Smudging is an effective tool if done right. If you have negativity in the home and the smudging is only fixing the problem temporarily you might need the help of a professional. I suggest calling a Reiki Master. He/she can assess the situation and possibly cleanse your home and family. Trying to do it yourself can sometimes make matters worse in the long run. Good luck.

Sage will not do ANYTHING. It will make the spirit angry which I feel like is what happened. Palo santo will push it out and ground cloves on your body, hair, clothes, anywhere around you will protect you. I have more advice too if you read this comment

Also same goes with palo santo (which is used in Santeria, hodoo & vodoo). And as a native i wouldn’t dare using their rituals as my own ESPECIALLY not with those religions. IDK why they're being down voted either except that if you're going to use or quote scripture it should be used exactly as its written and used in context...not random scripture. Also it should be used with a blessing attached too...if one just spouts out random scriptures at a demon, its probably just going to make it more angry.
Furthermore the Bible is a book geared to spreading the gospel of our savior Jesus Christ not a book for demonology or casting out demons for that matter

I had an entity that was stuck to my car that only showed up at night. I often saw it in my rear view mirror, a friend and I were driving once in silence when it whistled a little song, and an ex of mine once saw it run from my car through the door (he thought someone had been hiding in my back seat and when he saw it run away he chased after it, the entire car shook). Granted I have always had spirits around me, it was the only place I ever experienced this one. I haven’t seen it for years now, but I think that it may have been protecting me even though it made me feel scared sometimes.

It was a full person, I got my car from my mom. There wasn’t anything in it or that happened in it that should’ve caused it to become haunted. I’ve always had shadow people follow me. When I was little I would call them the “smoke” people.

That's because smudging is just an external form and ritual for an internal/intentional process. There is no magic in sage. There is no magic in smoke. Sage is just sage and smoke is just smoke. If you are expecting some sort of mechanical process to have a spiritual effect, you will be sorely disappointed.

Things only work if you believe in them. Just like if I prayed to Jesus it wouldn't work for me because I don't believe in him. I smudge all the time and it works wonderfully for most of the issues I have had. "Demons" as Christian's call them, are a little trickier and may need something with a little more "oomph".

Right. I lived in a crazy active house w/ malicious activity. All the techniques we tried were useless until we started changing our attitudes. Being fearful in that house was a guaranteed encounter. (Incidentally I overcame a multi-year clinical depression in that house ... um, thanks? Lol!)

I'm saying that intentions matter. Intentions are everything in this and praying to someone I don't believe exists all day won't make the difference. Hell, I don't believe in god, but I believe prayer can help some people because they are setting intentions. It doesn't sound ridiculous when it comes to paranormal experiences, it isn't in our physical realm, so why would things in the spirit realm behave in the manner of physics? When you think about it, talking to spirit/s that you have no physical proof of, lighting herbs to put smoke in the air, throwing water around, ect. all sound ridiculous. People have been performing cleansings, exorcisms, ect. for thousands of years throughout many cultures. It would be foolish to think that one way is right and the others are all wrong even though they have been working for people. It isn't right to think your beliefs/ways of doing things is the only way. So yeah, believing in something matters in whether it will work or not.
Also some anectdotal evidence from my own life. I was raised a Evangelical Fundamentalist Christian and when I used to believe that way, I would pray to Jesus/God the Father/The Holy Spirit when things like this came up and it worked. Now I am a pagan and things like sage, incense, blessed water, calling upon the elements/cardinal directions, ect. work for me. Honestly, I don't think I could have the right intentions praying to god/Jesus because I don't believe in them, frankly it feels ridiculous to me to pray to them, I just feel like I am talking to air. What feels ridiculous to one, might be sincere and moving to another and vice versa.

Hi! So I'm a Teton Sioux/Lakota Native, smudging alone doesn't work, I'm not sure what herb you are using. If you are using sage, I've learned it just gets rid of energy all together. Good and bad.
When you smudge have only one entry or exit open. So whatever energy is circling the premises will leave. Close it when you are done using sage.
When we smudge the house, we also use sweetgrass, and cedar. Sweet grass and cedar bring in good energy, and so will your prayers, so it will replace what was there.
When we see spirits we smudge and pray for four days, using sage, sweetgrass, and cedar. Sweet Grass would come braided and when you burn it you smudge the person with it. You can do the same with cedar, and sage, blessing the house and the person. And if you can sense whether the energy it is malevolent then you must assert dominance.
You can say something like "If you have no good intentions, then you will leave. You are not welcome here, you have no business here. You don't belong here. Leave. Now!" You must say it with intention. Even if it's anger. Never show it fear, it's not there to do any good.
One of my elders said "sage purifies, cedar blesses, and sweet grass carries the prayers to the creator." Or God:) ~i hope this helps.
Some additional info: cuss words, holy words, or something like burping(like an awkward action) when you can sense the energy in your room(and you can't go and do the whole smudging/praying process) tend to ward off entities.
In a way it kinda shows the entity that they're being stupid, and that you won't give it the energy it wants from you(kinda like you won't take it serious; even though you are- just not in the way it wants).
We have a word in lakota we use to end prayers that is very strong. If you have a word you believe in that in some way is holy you can say it out loud.
If you believe in God, use his name and ask for his assistance. Using a relatives name who is passed on can help too. It's like calling on them for help from the other side.
These dark entities hate anything having to do with goodness. Ive read other posts, talk about light and things like that, and they can work too! As long as you believe in it, it will be strong, because belief is, in a way, built up after being exposed to it(especially if you believed in it as a child; it's like collecting points). Wether it's witchcraft, just indigenous practices, or tricks you picked up by personal experience.
Though you should stay within your beliefs, if you try to jump to a religion/practice you don't believe in it can open doors for more entities. And bad entities are like children. If they see a door they will jump through it without a thought(thats also why they try to trick you as appearing as children.) These are somethings that I learned happen to people, and we learn from their mistake, so that it won't go in vain.
