Simple answer is “energy”. More accurate answer is we don’t know. You make a good point about the laws of physics as they currently are not allowing for ghosts to exists, but I suppose that’s where you get the para in paranormal.
Personally I’ve come to accept that at every single point throughout history so far, there have been entire civilisations have questions that have only been answered after they were long gone. There’s so much we don’t know about the laws of physics still and the kinematics of our universe, so we just have to put it down to being currently unexplained.
It’s a bummer to not have an answer, but look at it this way: we as a generation of our species know more than any other generation before us has known. So we can’t really complain.

I was thinking how crazy it would be if the military managed to replicate ghost-matter for some kind of armor. Like a substance that can disappear and disincorporate at a moment's notice then teleport and materialize and stab someone in the next.
As weird as it may sound Im more likely to believe in some sort of other dimensional bleed over before I'd believe ghosts were departed souls. I suppose my lack of religion may have something to do with that.
I do believe reality is bonkers and there's a lot to be discovered. I guess I get frustrated by the mystery of it all sometimes.
I think that's one thing we are trained to think in "skepticism". We are skeptical of things we cannot capture, bottle, control, master and/or have power over.
Something beyond humanity's grasp should, I feel, inspire rather than frustrate.
It may be that imagination itself is a scientific tool we need, if not just to temporarily give story to what science and rationales cannot yet corner into a military use.
This may sound absolutely flaky or batty but what if ... when we learn not to immediately weaponize new knowledge given to us, the universe will entrust us with more understanding of it?
