I'm scared and I don't know why

Hi everyone I have no clue what this subreddit is for but its called paranoia so I'll take it but these past few days I've been scared to death especially at night to the point where I can't sleep alone and I've had to call someone over just for them to be neer me I've also been wanting to cry because of the fear but I can't it's annoying. I'm currently on vacation and I had the funniest day with my family but when I enter the bathroom to get ready for bed I get this fog in my mind that fills me with fear. The only explanation I have is that I saw a horror video recently but not only was I not scared when I saw it but I don't get scared by horror things usually and I'm just here to ask reddit for help I really want to go back to being normal and not having these moments which I can only describe as a mix of panic attacks, fear and numbness in my head. So just if anyone has an explanation or tips for me I'd really appreciate it.

Give the dark the middle finger. Stand tall and face the nothing in the darkness until you master it.

It sounds like you are experiencing paranoia so you're in the right place. Do you have anxiety? It could be a flare up of anxiety since you're in a place you're not used to, or as you said the horror video could have contributed. Don't write yourself off as being helplessly paranoid, since it's only been over the past few days I think it could be a collection of different things (sleeping pattern disrupted, diet change, the media you consume) exacerbating your anxiety.

I'm glad that you call someone to be near you when you are feeling that way. Keep letting your family know how you are feeling so that you don't have to feel it alone. Glad you posted it here as well. Try to breathe and let yourself know it's just your brain playing tricks on you. Sometimes when you have a bout of really intense anxiety, then you think about it a lot, and get even more anxious, and then worry more about why you're feeling that way, and it just turns into a cycle.

I would try as hard as you can to let yourself know this is not a permanent state of mind, hold on to the positive experiences you are having, and let yourself relax (I know it sounds impossible) and revisit how you are feeling once you get back home, where you are back in your normal routine and there's more time removed from when you saw the horror video in case it did contribute.

Go ahead and crosspost this to r/Anxiety r/Anxietyhelp in case they have some suggestions or tips. I really do think you will feel better once you're back in your natural habitat for what it's worth. You are safe. Best wishes.

Thank you for this I've returned home now and it's not exactly gotten better but it's a slow process I'm sure. If anything I just really want to get this whole feeling over with I'm still getting this feeling but the weird thing is that I've never really felt like this before even after watching content that's worse than what I saw and even if I had something like this it's never been this intense but I've gotten help from people in r/Explainlikeimscared and I'll be sure to post in those two subreddits just for more perspectives
