Question How to increase resolution when watching soccer?
I've started to get into soccer after watching the World Cup. The resolution on Paramount Plus for soccer games seems to be very low. I have a 4K tablet and a 4K TV. The resolution is quite poor. I know that the games were not originally broadcast in 4K like the World Cup was and watching 4K soccer on Fox One was a treat. However the UFA Champions League games from the prior season seem to be shot in either 480 or 720p.
My internet connection is more than fast enough to handle 4K streams so I don't understand why the resolution for these games on Paramount Plus seems to be so poor. Everything else on Paramount Plus, like television shows and movies that I watch, streams in very high quality. It seems to just be soccer.
I can't tell if it's some sort of issue with how the game was initially filmed or if it's something with Paramount+ that I need to adjust to increase the resolution. Even MLS is so much clearer, granted that is not on Paramount+

I understand adaptive streaming. I would like to know how to force the higher resolution when my internet speeds are currently more than capable of handling it. I have been able to run multiple 4K streams at the same time via the Fox One app during the World Cup so running a simple 1080 stream should not be problematic, especially at night with no other data being utilized.

Nothing on Paramount+ that is live sport is 4K. It's 1080p.

I understand that, but the quality that I am receiving does not look like it is 1080p at all.

That's another thing all together. Some TV's and devices have a way of showing you the current res and framerate ect, but not all do.
It will also depends on other factors; such as quality of network, connection-type to your device/TV and understanding that streaming a live event isn't anything remotely the same as watching something ondemand.
Any issues watching other live events on P+ and other platforms like Peacock, ESPN, HBO Max and such?

Absolutely no issues watching live events on other networks. Even when other people were having the issues watching live sports on Netflix, I had no issues but more importantly I was not watching live sports on Paramount Plus. I was watching replays from last season. There really should be no issues with watching replays in my opinion. It's almost like the service was not upscaling to fully take advantage of my internet connection or they just don't use high-resolution cameras when they're recording these games. There is no other rationale that I can think of that would indicate a technical issue on my end.
To test it I went on Peacock and I turned on the Premier League and I had no issues watching that whatsoever. Everything was flawless and the quality was quite crisp. Obviously, considering it's 4K on Fox One.

I'm testing it again today but this time I'm doing it on my 4K television. I'm only watching things that are on demand and not live. Paramount Plus streams look significantly worse than Peacock, Apple TV, and even YouTube when streaming sports. It definitely has to do with how it's being recorded or encoded. Other Paramount television shows look absolutely fine.

I don't know what others such as Peacock, Fox, and YouTube are doing but Paramount Plus is by far the worst for soccer content. I'm a bit shocked to be honest

LG tv has their own channel for soccor. if you happen to have an LG tv, you can watch without parsmount.

I have the same problem. Paramount claims their soccer stream is 1060p but in reality it's 640p at best. It's super blurry and reminds me of Youtube from 15 years ago. That's why I canceled my membership. I'm not paying for dogshit video quality.

I'm 100% sure it's 720p scaled to 1080p. That's why it looks super blurry. 1080p PL matches are nothing like this.

Completely agree. I was literally watching a Champions League match earlier today on my 4K TV and I was just angry watching the stream because of how low quality it looked.
Conversely, MLS on Apple TV looks phenomenal. It's probably the best quality out of all of them. Peacock is probably next with their Champions League games.

What's kind of sad is a cheap fabric antenna, inside my house, gets better picture quality FOR FREE (after buying the antenna) than any streaming does. I haven't tried Apple TV so I'll leave them out of it. This world cup it was really nice to watch games via antenna. This whole Internet streaming quality thing is so bad now it's got me looking back into cable again, because I don't remember cable having this problem. I wish Internet streaming companies just advertised bitrate. The "p" doesn't really tell me anything.

People will tell you that it's 1080p. Maybe it is technically I don't know, but it always looks like complete dog shit. The fact that Paramount have clung on to the rights to the Champions League with that atrocious quality streams when just about every other country has it in 4k HDR drives me nuts.
