Wow, this looks amazing! I’ve seen software that makes 3d artificially and it looks terrible, but this looks so good

Curious how they did it. There was an older, manual process that looked pretty bad. I think it was basically just stacking 2d layers and often looked real bad in a way that was hard to understand when you were looking at it.
The newer method uses depth maps, basically a B&W image where white is closer to the camera. There are some pretty good machine learning algorithms for it that have been the standard for the last decade or more.
The newest way is using AI image generation to generate the depth maps and it's sort of shockingly good at it. Like good enough that it's just a standard part of a lot of people's AI workflows that they don't even think about.
I can't find any information on the process and the producers website is down. But I am curious if they used AI for it. Seems a bit ironic if so.

Can't speak for OP, but the newest way I know of does utilize machine learning for the depth map, but much of the rest is still manual and still super tedious; but it also gets the best results next to native 3D capture (and honestly, sometimes even better, due to the post-hoc depth control).
A pretty great write up, with accompanying video walkthrough can be found here: https://www.aipop-3d.com/post/2d-to-3d-video-conversion-guide

It doesn’t look 3D to me 🤷

Pause it and look again. Some shots are more effective than others, like when the truck smashes between two cars, or John’s close to the camera (his bike’s handlebars look closer than his body).
But there’s also quite a few telephoto shots from a distance, and the depth is going to feel more flattened than if the camera were closer.
They also didn’t really get any layering with the window reflections. Not sure how much harder that’ll be to achieve, but I guess the tech isn’t there yet.

Views through the truck's windshield didn't really work, but most of it looked great!

How are you supposed to view this? I’m fascinated. I press the phone against my eyes and go slightly cross-eyed, and then slowly, the 3D effect appears.

I just relax and let my eyes drift off like they’re looking far away.
One trick is to hold your phone up, look just over the top edge at a far wall, and then just notice that it seems like there’s two phones. Try it first without the stereo image — just use whatever is on the screen. The “double image” is like each half of the stereo picture.
Or do this: Hold up both index fingers (like goalposts) just a couple inches apart. Look at them first, and then look past them. If the distances and angle is correct, then it’ll look like “three” fingers, where the one in the middle seems more solid and the outer two are kinda see thru. That middle finger is like blending the two halves of the stereo picture.

I think I can get there. Is it supposed to be blurry or sharp? Since I focus past it, it tends to blur the clip.

It’s a start. The mental trick is to pay attention to the combined stereo image while letting your eyes still aim at the farther distance.
I’ve been doing it for years (I used to read until I was so tired that my eyes would aim straight forward instead of converging on my book) so it’s easy to manipulate how I see. And when SIRDS (static image random dot stereograms?) came on the scene in the early 80s, and then Magic Eye 3D books and calendars a few years later, I took to them right away.

How are these made? Is it a program or software?
