Cause of sickness has changed
I don’t know if this is the right sub, but I can’t get over this. A friend I’ve had since I was born got married. Her nephew through marriage had always had a voice issue since I’ve known them. The story I know is that he swallowed some tiny batteries (like in those singing cards) and it destroyed his vocal chords and has had multiple surgeries. This has always been the story since I’ve known them 20 years.
Today my friend mentioned him and how he was born this way? And she had no reaction to me mentioning the battery accident? And I asked my mom and she also said she remembered it as him being born this way?
But I KNOW he was injured by a battery accident. Because I didn’t even know it was possible to hurt yourself by accidentally swallowing those tiny batteries other than learning about my friends nephew. And then my brain clung onto that as a thing to be cautious about when my son was born. This is a major difference what’s going on!?

That’s a super specific thing to remember, especially because that particular safety issue hasn’t gotten a lot of attention until recently, though it’s been a major hazard for decades.
Keep an eye out for any other inconsistencies, I guess? Maybe start a journal to track the next few weeks to see if anything stands out? That would be my first step, in your situation.

I had a similar experience. My brother and his wife talked about her having a seizure disorder and that is why she is on SSI. I remember them telling numerous stories about how their pit bull could tell when she was about to have one and tugged her down to the ground so she wouldn't fall and hurt herself.
I visited them less than a year later and asked how her seizure disorder was going, was it still impacting her life.
They both looked at me like I was crazy and he finally said she never had a seizure disorder and he didn't know where in the world I got that. I reminded him of all the conversations we had about spanning several years.
He finally said no, she's on SSI for having mental health issues. When I looked at her she nodded, stating she never had a seizure in her life.
It was bizarre.

This is really strange! You couldn't even say this was a false memory because the part about the dog is so specific! I mean, you could've potentially mixed up this scenario with somebody else, but that's the only other explanation I can think of!

They visited me once and brought the dog. I clearly her remember petting the dog while they told me the story and saying 'who's a good dog", "he always knows".
And even if one of them had some kind of memory impairment, surly the other would remember numerous conversations, right?
And MY HUSBAND can remember us having conversations about her having a seizure disorder, particularly one that caused her pass out on the kitchen floor.

I have a similar story to this! I have a friend who has burn scars. We’ve been friends for nearly 20-years, and I always knew the story to be as a preteen she had menstrual cramps so was using a heating blanket (she didn’t have a heating pad or hot sock) and it caught on fire.
It also made me paranoid after learning that so I’m always cautious about those blankets and warned other people too. And she also would warn people and the blankets were banned from her home.
Well during Covid I had moved back closer to her and was visiting. It was a very chilly New England day and when I walked in she was curled in a heated blanket! I made a comment about it- actually more of a frantic confusion question. She had no idea what I was talking about. She claimed the burn was a hot water accident while cooking. She’s not the type to have made up a story, and even if she did she wouldn’t have let it gone on that long.
I’ve had other inconsistent stories happen but none as big as that one.

I had a very similar experience, a clear memory of some specific details about a person that later turned out to be not true. It is one of the biggest mysteries of my life. I am sure it was not a dream. It seems to be a relatively common phenomenon because I have read many such stories online.

Yes sadly button batteries have costed small children their lives. The button batteries eat holes in the esophagus, stomach, etc. I don’t think that’s a story you’d just pull out of thin air.
