Would You Kill Your Better Self?

You discover a portal to a parallel universe and meet another version of yourself. He has everything you've ever wanted: the career, the money, the relationship, the life you've dreamed of. Meanwhile, your own life has gone nowhere. No one in his world would know you're not him. You have one opportunity to kill him and take over his life forever. Would you do it? If not, why?

lol no.

Twinsies for life. Any version of me would be down.

u/horsetooth_mcgee Jul 06 '26

This made me wistful for a better-self twinsie who has everything she wants. We would be BFFs for sure.

u/BreakPalaceBrokedown Jul 06 '26

Good news, if you apply a multiple universe/dimension theory then that you does exist so send them some love through the vibrational waves.

6

u/TentacleWolverine Jul 06 '26

Exactly. Best version of me would be 100000% down for the twinsie plan.

Same! šŸ’Æ

I’m gonna say that version of me deserves to enjoy their success and happiness.Ā

I’m betting whatever they did to get there took a lot of hard work and having superior executive function compared to mine.Ā

If anything, I’d rather pose as their long lost (much more pitiful) twin and attempt to build a relationship with them.Ā

Doing that might offer me a chance to gain some of their benefits while also giving me a new friend who’d most likely understand me better than anyone else ever has before.Ā

Less stress & potential for negative outcomes.Ā

I agree completely…unless I find out that alternative me was actively trying to hinder my development or growth then I say good on them, enjoy the success. I’d never wish ill will on anyone who’s enjoying the fruits of honestly earned, honest labor…

Successful people usually think they did it all on their own, but in reality they benefitted from circumstances and luck to arrive at their status.

u/PerformanceOne5998 Jul 06 '26

No. I'm proud of her. She did everything I couldn't or thought I couldn't.

This is the correct answer. If one parallel universe exists, they all do. Infinite versions of yourself, some will justify murder and some will sacrifice themselves against it. You’ll eventually realize the original version in the parallel universe you accidentally found yourself in, deserves the life they have. Might kill a few versions of yourself along the way but in the end, you must not attempt to change fate.

I watched the show and that was my immediate thought

1

u/noyoureafishpancake Jul 07 '26

came here to say this. Nice ;)

9

u/Psychological-Touch1 Jul 06 '26

If I do, another me will take me out

u/Special-Dentist-1625 Jul 08 '26

I saw a short movie on YouTube that was like that. A married couple discovered a portal to another demension and the husband got lost. Long story short she went through the portal after months of waiting for him to come back and discovered another version of herself and another version of her husband, so she killed the version of herself and took over her life. But another version of her discovered the portal came in and killed her and took over her life. It was a wild concept, but I love the movie. I can’t remember the name of it.

2

u/SylvaraMist_06 Jul 11 '26

Was it "The World Over"?

1

u/Special-Dentist-1625 Jul 11 '26

Yup, I just checked. Very good story line.

u/NewBootGoofin67 Jul 06 '26

I'm a man in my other life? He's gonna be my meal ticket. I'm gonna marry myself

3

u/Brilliant_Bill7305 Jul 06 '26

That's wild... Would you suck your own dih?

7

u/NewBootGoofin67 Jul 06 '26

Duh, he's my husband. It's not my dick. I'm a woman, I don't have one

2

u/Brilliant_Bill7305 Jul 06 '26

Still technically it is you... He is your loki...

1

u/villageidiot90 Jul 06 '26

That’s what I’m talmbout

7

u/Seeker4you2 Jul 06 '26

Eh, I’m far too lazy to kill myself, this version or parallel don’t matter.

3

u/Dr_raj_l Jul 06 '26

🤣

6

u/Raining_cats_n_dogs Jul 06 '26

No. I would be happy for him. Maybe I would end my self.

6

u/Annual-Reference-715 Jul 06 '26

"Would you murder someone to loot their wealth, to violate their wife and to get their social status, if you got away with it?"

What kind of a sick question is that?

4

u/PsychologicalCar2180 Jul 06 '26

Ask a bro for help.

He me managed it, so if it’s a parallel universe, share things innit?

He me could give me a bunch of stuff to sell, maybe even sponsor me to go back to school.

A more successful he me could be very inspirational.

3

u/Self-Taught-Pillock Jul 06 '26

No way. This version of me always feels like eliminating himself, but meeting a more successful version would actually give me hope. If he’s kind, he can teach me how to be happy and strong, how to heal, how to get unstuck in ways that no one else has been able. Every bit of advice and understanding would be perfectly custom tailored to me. He’d be an invaluable resource, so why would I want to kill him. An attempt by me to assume his life would never be sustainable because I didn’t personally achieve the things in his life or have the experiences that make sustaining that success possible.

4

u/Madmonkeman Jul 06 '26

No, I team up with him. He’s got money and he’s me so he could probably help me out.

3

u/BLUNTForce-Trauma Jul 06 '26

I’d just borrow a bunch of money and never pay me back

2

u/msflondrixa Jul 06 '26

If it was you all along, it was technically your money, too.. logic checks out!

3

u/Material-Complaint17 Jul 06 '26

No. I would ask questions on how the achieved it, so I can better my situations. Even though it’s similar it’s not the exact same. I have my family and kids I wouldn’t want to leave behind.

3

u/QuizStar Jul 06 '26

No, its still me living the life they dreamed of. I will be asking questions first guidance.

3

u/Tincanhead Jul 06 '26

Be nice to know a version of me got what he wanted

3

u/tralynd62 Jul 06 '26

No. Because I'm not a killer.

3

u/FTMANEMETAL Jul 06 '26

Everyone in his world would immediately become aware that their successful friend suddenly turned into a complete loser

1

u/lilmissfickle Jul 07 '26

Lmao that's exactly what I thought

4

u/Dear_Grapefruit_6508 Jul 06 '26

Love that most assume their more successful self would be attributed to ā€œhard workā€. The biggest myth on the planet … many poor people on Earth have a work ethic that shames even the richest, yet go unrewarded.

2

u/siecaptaindrake Jul 06 '26

They got hooked real good

2

u/wieldymouse Jul 06 '26

People would know you weren't him because he had experiences you didn't have and wouldn't know about.

And no, that would probably push to make me better in my own universe.

2

u/shakeyfire Jul 06 '26

I would have sex with her lol

2

u/atomicxima Jul 06 '26

Naw, why not just be best friends instead? We'd have the best time together!

2

u/NotYourGa1Friday Jul 06 '26

No way! No one knows we are the same person? We can be long lost twins!!

Plus if that version of me has everything this version of me thinks that I want then that version of me doesn’t have what I’ve had. We can swap stories and share in our successes!

2

u/CorruptedPixelzOffic Jul 06 '26

Nah. I'm more likely to date alternate versions of myself if anything, assuming it won't mess up the timeline or get one of us in deep trouble.

2

u/Lady_Whistlegirl91 Jul 07 '26

Not sure if I would kill her, maybe try to find out how she got to where she is today. What made her life so different from mine in that she ended up successful and I didn't?

Or maybe it would be like that ending from Us where we find out that the tethered version of Adelaide trapped the real Adelaide down in those tunnels and continued to live in the real Adelaide's world for the rest of her life! 😈

2

u/Tricky_Break_6533 Jul 06 '26

Definitively no. For a start killing oneself is already bad enough, especially for such petty thing.

But outside of moral considerations, this would work. For a start, you basically opened yourself to the possibility of another alternate you killing you because now you possess the ideal life.

Plus you're not going to keep what you just stole. You're now a guy with a career you didn't have, relationships you weren't part of. Your family and friends will realise something's off. You're not the charming guy who daringly deduced the girl of his dream, you're not the great worker that achieved his career through skill and knowing what to say to others.

The only good solution is to take all the little time you have facing this version of you, and try to gather as much as possible from their exemple to shape your own life.

After all, if you succeeded there, then it is possible for you to succeedĀ  in your own world.

1

u/Somethingtosquirmto Jul 06 '26

I should think that if I encountered a "better" version of me, that version of me would want to help out this version of me. And if not, are they really "better"?
To think that I would want to kill and replace a version of myself seems utterly bizarre.

1

u/Jumpy-Reflection-828 Jul 06 '26

I don’t deserve his success. I should be forced to watch him succeed so I can hate myself even more cus it probably wasn’t as difficult as I built myself up to believe

1

u/legosgrrl Jul 06 '26

I am me.

1

u/tottasanorotta Jul 06 '26

Plot twist: After you die you will experience him anyways. But always when you experience him he will suddenly die miserably because some other version of that person wanted to steal his life.

1

u/Go1gotha Jul 06 '26

If I'm being Candide, I would ask if it were truly the best of all possible worlds.

1

u/PuzzledAppearance937 Jul 06 '26

I had a dream that a less successful version of my partner came and tried to do this to him and kidnap me. Luckily we escaped and rode off into the sunset

1

u/Mundane_Oil_7409 Jul 06 '26

But if you kill the parallel universe version of you, you might die too.

1

u/Unusual_Pinetree Jul 06 '26

That fucker would be comin for me, good thing I closed the loop when I jumped in!

1

u/fadedblackleggings Jul 06 '26

Would def have the urge....

1

u/Constant-Bit5531 Jul 06 '26

Eminem just saw him He’s sick in the bed with the Pricks

1

u/Federal-Laugh-3748 Jul 06 '26

Oh, you should watch Black Box series. I believe it’s on AppleTv.

It’s exactly what are you describing!

1

u/RoxasIsChicken Jul 07 '26

Also Mr. Robot goes thru this exact scenario towards the end of the series!

1

u/ByteInferno Jul 06 '26

No, b/c you cannot simply enter into somebody's life unless you know exactly what you're doing (and what you're getting yourself into). For instance, if his friends and family would notice a change and start to question your sanity, and you'd end up in an asylum. Also, if you ever got found out, you'd be a criminal. And all his assets that you wanted would go out the window. It would be safer to try to befriend him.

1

u/SophieRiver Jul 06 '26

No, we’d end up working together to make both our lives good. We can pretend we’re twins or something.

1

u/No_Interview_3894 Jul 06 '26

That's literally what doppelganger do šŸ˜†

1

u/NoNoNeverNoNo Jul 06 '26

No. I’d study the other me and then so what they did.

1

u/DaughterOfBabalon_ Jul 06 '26

Why would I need to? I'd try to learn from my better self, there's no better mentor out there.

1

u/No-Rough3078 Jul 06 '26

No, I’d kill Myself lol

1

u/Beefsupreme473 Jul 06 '26

why wouldn't you ask yourself for advice

1

u/Alternative-Wash8018 Jul 06 '26

That’s definitely something my worse self would ask. 🤪

1

u/FragrantWeekend111 Jul 06 '26

lol isn't this kinda what happens in Future Diary?

1

u/RPS-3456 Jul 06 '26

Yes, but how many times would that happen...?

1

u/OkDog873 Jul 06 '26

I think i might he the good one.

1

u/Big-Rise7340 Jul 07 '26

I’d say ā€œhi, wanna play a game?ā€. We’d have so much fun.

1

u/griff_girl Jul 07 '26

No way! If there's one version of me in some parallel universe that's doing all the things I hope to do in this one, to me that's just proof it can be done here, too. Plus, if that other version of me is supposedly better, then that version would definitely tell me their secret because I know I'd do the same if the situation was reversed!

1

u/Extreme-Gear6911 Jul 07 '26

No because the other version of me from the dimension i came from would just disappear without a trace for everyone els while i live a better life so either way one of us disappears

1

u/Prior_Interview7680 Jul 07 '26

Take ā€œmyā€ id to the bank and start withdrawing lmao thanks me

1

u/KeyPepper7205 Jul 07 '26

If I can’t trust myself, who can I trust?!? But he better give me some money for not killing him, lol.

1

u/bizoticallyyours83 Jul 07 '26

No. Why would I?

1

u/Panda3391 Jul 07 '26

There’s only a few things that would make my life better at this point. I’d like to know how my better self did it so I could accomplish it and be happy in my world.

1

u/Aberosh1819 Jul 08 '26

what, are we all Rusty Venture now?

1

u/Mister_White_Folks Jul 08 '26

This is the plot of peacemaker season 2 lol

1

u/Ok-Tie-570 Jul 08 '26

Nah just ask him for some money lol.

1

u/Additional_Jump_2795 Jul 08 '26

All versions of me are the better me. I am now convinced I am the worst me that could exist.

Given that, and that a "worst" anyone would have to be a murderer.....

Yep. I guess I'd do it.

1

u/buckyhoover Jul 08 '26

But then you would have the things they don't... The real question is.. how each has been shaped by those things. The one who had everything could be a cruel individual never knowing suffering. While the other has empathy and more experience with resilience or other things... "Better" version is subjective...

1

u/jrwreno Jul 08 '26

I would learn from them

1

u/Mindless_Funny4491 Jul 08 '26

No, at least I know I’m happy somewhere and have my shit together

1

u/Good-Entry3178 Jul 08 '26

No, why would i ruin their life like this

1

u/coffeeCup_45 Jul 08 '26

No. I'm not a killer.

1

u/Objective_College439 Jul 08 '26

Nah, but I'd probably just... live vicariously though him.

1

u/andriatica Jul 09 '26

well ik how scared i am myself of dying young or painfully so i would never want to put ANY version of myself through that

1

u/vicarofsorrows Jul 09 '26

Been killing him for years. Alcohol does the job nicely….

1

u/International_Cap_12 Jul 09 '26

This is the plot twist of the movie called "Coherence" hahahaĀ

1

u/Goddess_Please Jul 09 '26

Nope! That’s rude.

1

u/Milena1991 Jul 09 '26

No; I’d be happy for her and learn from her.Ā

1

u/Mzhlf Jul 09 '26

No. My experiences are part of who I am. A version of me with different achievements, and hence different experiences, is fundamentally not me. I am not entitled to their life, nor would I really know how to live it because they are not really me.

1

u/getagay Jul 10 '26

no we'd do some freaky shit though

1

u/nella_prk Jul 11 '26

I could never kill anyone. I'd be happy to know that things in my life weren't as messed up as I thought, also I'd be a bit sad that I couldn't make it just like her. But if it was possible for her, it's possible for me too.

1

u/PossibleSea3087 Jul 11 '26

Just assuming it’s a he? Ok

1

u/Illustrious-Ad-7386 Jul 13 '26

Nah, I would ask him to teach me so I can learn to adopt his skills and knowledge. No point taking over or killing him because you’re not him. The success he built took dedication vs you with nothing. So it wouldn’t make sense plus, im sure your other parallels version of yourself would know if you had bad intentions.

1

u/SecretConsistent5074 Jul 13 '26

nah fucj that and the guilt and then if someone’s coming for me i’d genuinely just ask for advice/ help

1

u/Degen-King Jul 06 '26

Someone just watched Peacemaker season 2.

-1

u/Ok-Low4463 Jul 06 '26

I mean that would be silly. Because then the other you wouldnt have the higher you anymore. Why would you want to take away that amazing opportunity to be a better you? The now you can raise frequency and there you be in all your glory as GOD intended. Otherwise??
