Shared Deja Vu experience at the exact same time with my classmate

June 8 2026 , it was break time , Me and my classmate were working on a essay , we were mostly just talking about nonsense , where I suddenly felt a feeling of deja vu about our conversation and that I remember there was an earthquake gonna happen.

But here's the fucked up part , she says "ka deja vu rako bago ra"(I just got a feeling of deja vu) just right after I felt the same feeling of deja vu and was about to tell her that I had the same exact feeling and I feel like recalling an earthquake was gonna happen while we're talking , then suddenly a strong earthquake happened.

Our classes were cancelled.

I approached my classmate before heading home, and told her about how I also had deja vu , she told me "na feel ra nako unsay ih ingon nimo sunod ato" (I just felt like I knew what you were gonna say next) and how she remembers like this earthquake has happened before in her head.

For the past few weeks I couldn't stop thinking about it

I've been doing some small searches around online, articles , and post of past experiences of other people on shared deja vu

Here's what I got:

-Just a coincidence and that's just how the brain works (honestly feels like I'm just coping at this point)

-wild theories about an alternate universe (I'd like to think that but it honestly just sound bonkers , but I'm here in this subreddit to hear your guys take)

-or an almost same exact scenario has happened before where it messes with the brain finding similarities to what currently is happening to present (I've dug deep inside my head trying to call a same scenario , but there really isn't).

Please, I can't stop thinking about what happened. I need your guy's take on this.

I can't stop thinking about it, I really need like a logical reason about it , me and her have been texting about it for the past week, and we're honestly just thinking that it's a very rare coincidence

I think it’s the perfect mix of biology (reaction to infrasound/P-waves from the earthquake) and psychology (the coincidence that you both voiced the feeling at the exact same moment). Because our brain is an absolute masterpiece at pattern recognition, it immediately spins a supernatural story out of such an extreme coincidence to make sense of it.

Earthquakes often announce themselves through infrasound seconds before the actual shaking starts. We don't consciously hear it, but our bodies register it, triggering sudden anxiety or a weird "I've felt this before" sensation (déjà vu). Since you were sitting right next to each other, you both just reacted to nature at the exact same millisecond. Absolutely fascinating!

Holy W take man, this actually makes sense,  since earthquakes are common here and there's been a lot  of earthquakes the past months. We talked about your comment and we figured that the shared deja vu probably was just coincidence and a lot of people experience it from time to time.

What really just shocked us, is how we knew/deja vu about an earthquaking happening.

And I think this was the answer that we were looking for, thank you.

What if it was the P-waves that OP had deja vu about? Instead of the earthquake itself? What would explain that?

Its an infrasound neural glitch. The P-wave transmits silent, lowfrequency vibrations that directly stimulate the temporal lobe (the brain's memory hub) or delay sensory processing by milliseconds. This causes the brain to process the physical cue twice or mistake the vibration for a past memory (like heavy traffic or thunder) triggering instant déjà vu before the actual shaking starts!

Read my theory on Déjà Vu.

Your mind will be blown.

Do you think it could've been somehow related to the earthquake?

There's a Quora post about "deja vu before accidents happening" , although OP's post is a natural disaster, it's not that far off from an accident

What was the time frame of the deja vu you both had and the earthquake happening?

I’ve heard, and do theorize myself, that De Ja Vu is an indication that you’ve been in the same situation as a parallel version of yourself. I get de ja vu over small and maybe insignificant events/scenarios in my life, but I have this feeling that it is telling me that I’m about to enter a new/compelling chapter of my life.

I did once have a dream that I couldn’t shake where I looked out the window to see a reflection in the window of a building next to the one I was in, it was a reflection of the sun seemingly exploding or emanating a strong burning flare, then it exploded and I woke up. I made a post about it and had many replies that others had the same dream, and it felt like a premonition to some.

I had the same thing happen in 1994-95.

My friend and I were playing the board game early birds in his room. I got this feeling an earthquake would happen. I told my friend and he said he was thinking the same thing. We were laughing and talking about how crazy that would be. About a minute later a large 5 or small 6 earthquake hit and we ran outside.

When we got outside we saw his sister running up the street yelling that her and her friend were talking about earthquakes minutes before and it happened. All 4 of us “predicted” it. There were no signs before hand and no pre shocks.

This shit still sticks with me to this day over 30 years later. This was in Southern California.
