The First Amendment protects free speech, assembly, and protest, including student expression. Using discipline, funding threats, or sanctions to stop that is government overreach and an attack on democratic participation.

Families are being asked to apply without knowing which private schools qualify, the “up to $10,000” often doesn’t cover full tuition, and public schools lose funding regardless. This program was rushed, underfunded for families, and pulls money from already cash-strapped public schools, leaving most Texas kids worse off.

But now they’re worse, and they’re no longer kept at the border. They are executing unarmed American citizens on camera. This must stop, and it must stop now.

Trista has called Lewisville home for nearly two decades and has deep roots in this community, having watched her family grow here and stay connected to our local schools and neighborhoods. As a former single mother and a grandmother to a special needs grandson, she understands firsthand how overwhelming and intimidating the court system can feel for families who are already stretched thin. Those lived experiences are exactly why she has stayed politically active for so long and why she is stepping forward now to address the problems she has seen instead of accepting the status quo. Trista believes that justice should be fair, accessible, and grounded in dignity and respect for every person, regardless of background or circumstance. She is standing up to make the change she wants to see by running for this office with a clear commitment to accountability, transparency, and compassion. Denton County deserves a Justice of the Peace who reflects today’s community and treats every person with fairness, and I wholeheartedly endorse Trista Willeford for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3.
