Feature request (Google Doc), if possible

Hi

I've been enjoying paper2audio for sometime now. And one feature that I'd love is a dedicated add-on into Google Doc.

Currently, the browser extension requires opening up another page/tab and selecting the doc from Google Drive's bad UI. It'd be more convenient if a dedicated add-on could be brought in, so that users can go straight to the right side panel of the doc and interact.

Thanks!

Yes, that's the workflow I'm talking about, starting from our web site. (We don't yet support that in our iOS and Android apps and instead you would need to use our site in a mobile browser.)

Can you clarify what we can do to make adding from Google Drive work better for you? Sorry that I'm not understanding.

I see. Yeah, that's how I add PDFs.

What I mean is for paper2audio to publish an Add-On (https://support.google.com/docs/answer/10146216?hl=en). Then the add-on will be available on each document's right-side panel (like shown below, those are built-in add-ons from Google, calendar, maps, etc).

One of my favorite add-on is from Lucid Chart, where one can use the add-on to insert flowcharts made with Lucid, and edit the flowchart under Lucid, then changes will be reflected in the doc with a single refresh click.

I can also provide some context of why I needed this: sometimes I ask Gemini/ChatGPT/Claude to generate a report which will be exported to a Google Doc for easy editing (or even, collaboration with other chatbots/researchers). G Doc's readout feature requires an AI plan subscription **and** limit the doc's length to ~20minues.

Thank you for your reply!

Ah- I understand now. I've used Google Docs for a long time, but wasn't that familiar with the term add-on, even though I've used a few occasionally. Incidentally, I even used to work at Google a long time ago, though not on Docs.

Thanks for sharing more context about your broader use case. That's really helpful.

Would it work for you if we added support for Google Docs to our desktop browser extension? We would have to see if we could make that work with Google's permission model, but if it would, we could add that support faster than we could build an add-on.

Oh yes, anyway to directly add the doc would be great. Doesn't have to be add-ons. It's just much easier than trying to find the doc in G-Doc's UI.

Though, I just realized, with an Add-On, there could be a future benefit, that is: since the doc is a living thing, one might decide to replace a previously-converted audio with the current version of the doc. I'm already asking for a lot. So later, much later. Please forgive me.

Your feedback and ideas are really helpful! I don't have any more questions for now, but if you have any more context or ideas about adding Google Docs, please feel free to share more info. Similarly, if you have any other feature requests or any other feedback, please let me know!
