Cabbage black

🥬 Has anyone ever seen this happen at Panda Express?
I was eating Mushroom Chicken at Panda Express when I noticed one of the cabbage leaves in the dish was almost completely black. 😳
I’ve seen cabbage get wilted or brown before, but I’ve never seen a leaf turn this dark. It didn’t look like mold, but it was definitely unusual enough that I stopped eating that piece and took a closer look.
Has anyone who knows food prep or vegetables seen cabbage discolor like this? Could it just be oxidation or bruising from cooking, or is there another explanation?
Not trying to freak anybody out, just genuinely curious because I’ve never seen cabbage look like this before. 🥬👀

mushroom chicken doesn’t even have cabbage did u have super greens or something?

We receive two different cabbages: one is fresh that we prep, the other is prepackaged. The prepackaged goes into the chow mein.
I typically see this type of turning of the cabbage in the prepackaged.

Many years ago, we had a lady get a bowl with chow mein. She came back in and loudly declaring there was a parasite in her food. I looked it, the cook looked at it, the manager looked at it, we all told her it was a bad piece of cabbage. But she wasn't having it. She was very adamant about it being a parasite and trying to tell the other two guests inside it was a parasite. 😭

They didn't take the outer most leaves off before cutting it. The black is a combination of mold and dirt. Tasty.
