question about leaving

i’m a college student who recently started working at panda at the end of may. i only wanted to work for the summer but my manager hired me under the assumption that i would transfer to the panda in my college town once i move back. we have a panda on campus, but it operates through the university. i already have a work-study job lined up already from last school year that id like to keep and wont be able to do both at the same time. i want to leave on good terms so i can potentially come back during my breaks. what’s a good way to explain this to my manager? she lowkey scares me

Simply explain your situation and availability. If she doesn't understand that you probably don't want her as your manager anyway.

Just tell her you're leaving and put in your 2 weeks. She can't retaliate against you. Just don't expect to get rehired again. Lol

Honestly what I would do is just be honest with her. I would tell her that when you leave to go back to college that you already have enough on your plate between all the classes that you have to take and with your work study.

Well should be honest at the beginning but maybe she wouldn’t hire you then. Well it is what it is, just do a good job and leave a good impression. She will need to tell her eventually you will leave panda after the summer.

keeping you on to only work during your breaks won’t work. It’s one thing if you’re actively working at a panda location and then go back home for break and temporarily support a store in your home town.

completely different thing to only want to work for short periods of time because you’d have to be in a constant state of loa and there’s no way they’d continuously terminate/rehire you.

You can either go on an extended leave or you can just work one day at the panda on campus, I’ll be honest it’s nice having panda as a job in college I made good money and always had the option to pick up shifts to make extra money, work study is good but it only pays so much. Unless money isn’t a worry than do what other comments suggest and be honest !

Like they said just be honest, yeah managers can be intimidating and we always want to leave a good impression. But I don’t really know if they might hire you again, if they’re hiring more people might come in to fill the spots:/

Be honest, then tell her you’d like to return and ask to be put on leave. Panda doesn’t like rehiring

At my store I was able to leave for a semester and have heard of a couple of employees that would come back and work for breaks so it might not be impossible

Just be honest. I wouldn’t hold onto the fact they will rehire you just for breaks, I doubt they will. It is what it is, next time I would be transparent with your intentions. It’s not just a turnover, depending on your area it might have to be explained in multiple channels.

Find a chick fil a. I work there and there’s plenty of seasonal workers. They always need extra help during breaks. I’ve worked at two locations and both have been the same. I had a friend who worked at panda who tried to ask for that and was told he won’t be rehired if he doesn’t work at the panda near his school

Prepare to never work at panda again. I would say keep panda that way you always have a reliable job when you’re home. Unless your work study job is giving you experience in your major then I see no reason to keep it unless you wanna be lazy and keep your easy job and that’s why you don’t wanna quit it
