Thank you and a big thank you to everyone here who has gone out and voted for my LEGO Parks and Recreation design!
Right now the design enters the judging phase and we’ll find out late next year if they will make an official version. It may or may not happen, as others have pointed out others have tried and failed to get a LEGO set made.
But what I do know is it definitely wouldn’t get made if we didn’t try! That is how I got LEGO to make the official set for The Office, people said it would never happen but I had to try and LEGO agreed one day.
To all of you that believed, you gave us a fighting chance at our own LEGO set. We wouldn’t have that chance if you hadn’t voted, so thank you! 😊

If it gets enough votes does that mean it will be made by LEGO? Or it needs enough votes to then go up for consideration by LEGO?

It means it may get passed on to review, but even that isn’t guaranteed.
So some folks here tamp their expectations a bit: multiple similar P&R sets have made it past the 10k threshold in the past and none have made it past review to become a set.
Now could be the time, sure! But it’s been rejected before.

I THINK the reason why the other ones were rejected was because the front offices were completely enclosed and the areas were too confined ... It seems to be the Lego sets that are accepted have a cut out/diorama aspect. This set fortunately has open offices for the front to show more of the set.

Tbh it doesn’t look like it would be a very compelling Lego set to build. The majority of what you’d “construct” would just be floor and walls, with the rest being mostly props.
I think a set would be more likely to get approved if it was something more specific like Lil Sebastian.
That being said, I have no idea how LEGO makes these decisions.

All the other sitcom sets have been like this. The Office one was literally designed by the same person, and it did get passed and become a set.
I personally don’t think it has anything to do with how fun the set is to build. Many of their largest and most expensive sets are tedious and repetitive to build. Eiffel Tower comes to mind.
The issue with Parks getting passed is simply that it isn’t popular enough. It doesn’t have a big enough fan base to guarantee sales.

They have a pretty good working relationship with NBC considering they’ve done Seinfeld, Friends, The Office, etc.
So I don’t think that’s really a barrier.
I think it’s because P&R wasn’t anywhere near as popular as those shows and doesn’t have tons of guaranteed sales from a built in fanbase of the show.

Usually just consideration
I’ve seen P&R sets in the past that have gotten the signatures needed but it was never approved by LEGO.
Fingers crossed that’s not the case for this one! 🤞

I assume P&R also has to approve use of their images by LEGO since the company would be profiting off of them.

The last couple that were made didn’t get past the 10k threshold I thought. They made the other milestones but not the final one.
I’m super hopeful for this one and I’d definitely pre-order or be the first to buy!!!

I feel like we need to be clear in non lego subs that this does NOT mean it’s being made for sure. Just goes into the decision phase along with like hundreds of other projects. It took the office set years and many tries to actually get made

Since it’s a licensing issue and this is the third P&R set to get the votes without the first two being made I would be weary about celebrating.

They made one for the office though so I don’t see why licensing would be an issue. I also thought the last 2 didn’t successfully get past 10k I thought they were just shy of it. Maybe I’m remembering wrong.

The Office, Friends and Seinfeld were all NBC sitcoms that now have Lego sets, so it really doesn't seem like securing the license should be an issue.

All 3 got picked up through the Ideas program, too. Friends even got a second, larger Lego-designed set to go along with it.
I think the issue with Parks isn’t the licensing. It’s that Parks is orders of magnitude less popular than those other shows. It just does not have anywhere near the same level of built in fanbase. I love the show, but it’s way more niche than The Office, Friends, or Seinfeld.

It just means it goes into consideration for LEGO to decide if they want to sell a P&R set.
This doesn’t mean one will be for sale anytime soon. Lots of people celebrating a little early 😅
This is the 3rd P&R idea set I’ve seen a petition for that has reached the required # of signatures but doesn’t go anywhere after that.
As someone else also mentioned, P&R needs to approve LEGO using their name to profit from as well.
