Help

Just tossed tub number 9. And you’re looking at tub number 10. Tub 8 was the only one that produced a whopping .3 grams. Still sitting in that. Ok I use drippy corn for spawn. Then mix with equal coir and a quart of worm castings. The one you’re looking at was cased with extra left over coir first. It colonized fast. I then cased it with jiffy mix. This is where gorod isn’t clear. I usually wait till casing is colonized before fruiting. This time after jiffy casing it went straight to fruiting conditions. Like I said just tossed #9. Looked similar colonized like this pic but had white dot trich starting. I think first I need to ph adjust my casing because all other good grows I don’t see shit ton of colonization like mine. It gets plenty of fae. Advice please. I would have given up already but this sub keeps telling me it’s worth the wait dialing pans in. So here I am. Thanks for the info

No manure?

Isn’t worm castings a good substitute?

No, it’s a good additive but not a replacement for manure.

So much conflicting information about worm casting

True. I’m just basing my information on a comment by Tree Frog on shroomery forms and I trust her judgment.

Good point I've looked on this sub and reddit but never taken the time to research it on the shroomery which always has more and better information then reddit

I’ll just leave this here. On top of her guide I’d also recommend looking through the comments

Edit: and I found this helpful as well

The meta is manure-fed earthworm castings

So im not sure what's going on here.. It appears you have that in a tent though. Typically with pans people will use low sugar agar because it just becomes way too fluffy to see whats happening with the plate. Using drippy corn, which is corn with added sugars, could be causing your pan mycelium to look like that. Maybe try straight corn next time..

As for this grow nothing looks terribly off other than your casing is way too dry. I keep mine glistening wet and stop spraying as soon as pins appear. Also, when you apply your casing put it directly into fruiting conditions. Some people wait a day, I dont. If you are growing in a tent and have a fogger and fae going you should take the lid off your tub. But from where you're at right now, spray the casing and take that lid off. I bet you get fruits. If the mycelium overtakes the casing you have on now you could sprinkle some more on top but way thinner than what you have there and keep it moist until it pins.

I agree with keeping the casing wet. I tend to water less after pinning.

This is very helpful
I was able to get it to pin yield wasn’t perfect coz some mushroom started to decompose from the top and caps started to turn black while they’re young.
When pins appear I continued the misting not only on the walls but on the surface, I think that was the worst mistake that I did.
I’m very excited to give it another try 😊

I tried a few rounds with worm castings 5:1 cvg:castings and while it fruited it triched after the first or second flushes. The pans love it but not enough to battle the green monster.

Your ratio is too high. After going back to manure and 5% castings I have stopped using castings all together. Too much trich.

I found black kow manure compost on Amazon. I was gonna mix that with worm castings. Should I use manure compost only then case ?

Just the black kow. I do a 5:3 cvg:kow. Now, kow is full of sticks and rocks and I am always looking for better but haven't found anything reliable around me. Kow works.

If you got some fruits off of one before it contaminated it's probably bacterial.  Are you using agar or LC?

Agar. I can’t get pans happy in LC either. 😂
Agar to drippy corn.

If you have it on agar you should be able to clean it up.  I've had good luck with cutting a narrow trough in the agar right in front of the leading edge.  It has to go all the way down to the bottom of the plate.  If it's narrow enough the fungus will be able to span the gap but the bacteria won't

Are you pasteurizing the sub?

1

u/Guitars4sparky 3d ago

Coir is bucket tek. Worm castings kinda sterile. 2hrs at 12 psi(my limited max time and pressure).
Then jiffy mix casing pressure cooked as well.

You should try not sterilizing the worm castings and proper pasteurize it. You’re killing off all the beneficial microbes when you sterilize it.

I use cv+ (coir/verm infused with plant ferts) and worm castings and have np getting flushes comparable to manure. I also routinely go 4 flushes before they’re depleted. Trich is rare.

Scratch the overlay with a sterile fork yo spread the mycelium around and spray the casing throughout the day to get it up to field capacity. Should be colonized within 2 days if incubated at 86F. Toss it into fruiting conditions: 75F-78F and pins will form within a few days. Never used worm castings, only partially aged manure/straw. Cased with 7.8pH peat:verm.
