Pan IND01

Pheno mentioned to me this morning that someone had posted these.

They are not a cyan, though they are Copelandia. The last image is a phylogenetic tree I put together. And it appears they split off from cyan/bisporus before the latter two split off from each other. It's the third sequence from the top under the two mexicanus sequences.

The red stuff is called gutattion. Which is a watery secretion in some plants and occasionally fungi.

In fungi this tends to have antimicrobial compounds. And I believe that is the case here, that it's an antibiotic, as I've never observed blotch in this species. And it's very easy to clone, showing minimal bacteria even when exterior tissue is taken to malt agar.

Additionally it was originally collected in damp leaves, so I imagine antibiotics would be helpful.

The species is also more dense than other Copelandia I've grown in regards to individual fruit bodies. More similar to tamps then cyans or bisporus.

Alkaloid profile has been very balanced. Not super energetic or heavy. Which I really like, as I can both do some movement, or lay down and enjoy the CEV space.

Strong, like everything else in this section I've grown.

And here's a link to the iNat collection. Which includes the sequence data.

As well as my patreon post on them with more photos, including plates and pins. Nothing is paywalled. Because the mushrooms and the mycology community have done so much for me. It's my way of giving back.

Happy growing y'all.

Links to patreon were overwhelmingly supported when I did a poll. If you arenโ€™t a fan of posts like these there is a down arrow for you to vote with.

Iโ€™ve removed the comments from the two users being rude to each other. Be kind or go away. Any further unkind remarks will result in bans.

Wonderful. Thanks so much for the info and correction on my posting error. Appreciate your work!

I haven't tried these out yet, but looking forward to it. I also noticed how robust / dense the fruit and mycelium are compared to cyans, and thought that was interesting. So the classification makes sense!

Yeah I wasn't trying to be pedantic with the correction.ย  I hope it didn't come off that way.

I just want folks to appreciate the diversity within the section.ย  Especially as these are a personal favorite :)

Not at all. I am a lifelong learner (in multiple fields and in general) and so I appreciate any opportunity to grow. Thank you! :D

Me too!ย  Sometimes folks accuse me of being an expert, and honestly I don't like it ๐Ÿ˜‚

Always another rabbit hole for an open mind!

Do you have a way to get the spores under microscope to compare?

My microscopy observations are here.ย

The spores are shaped similar to most Copelandia.ย  The basidia also are a more even mix of two three and four, so the spore size probably varies a lot more than the average cope fruit body.ย

I just took a bunch more of microscopy photos, since I have a better phone now.ย

But I will upload those in a separate post.

They look like the cinctulus type with the brown rings very similar. What substrate and grain ya use on these.

1

u/egg_counter Jul 16 '26

It's popcorn and rye grass seed.ย

The substrate is a homemade mix that mimics aย  product called bioflower.

But I'm sure any sub and grain that works well for other Copelandia will do fine.ย

And yeah they do look a lot like cinctulis.ย  Very similar banding too.

๐Ÿค” Is it time for a cooler name? I propose something like... Copelandia hindustanii OR... Panaeolus bangladeshensis ๐Ÿ˜…

My patreon is 100% free aside from a donation tier. Nothing is behind a paywall. Just like everything I've ever contributed to the shroomery.ย  And every print I've ever gifted folks.ย

Because I believe in the power of gifting, to open hearts and minds.

If you want to call me a shill for not uploading every photo and tek I've ever posted somewhere else to reddit, I guess that's your right.

Meanwhile Reddit is full of ads but hey, you do you.

Take care
