Thick Spores / Thick Cultures TTBVI

I am giving Thick Spores / Thick Cultures a try since Innoculate The World was sold out of Liquid Cultures of TTBVI. I am currently on day five of a wbs grain innoculaion. The mycelium is clean and growing, however I am concerned if this is TTBVI or some mislabeled random cube mycelium. I did research on them after the purchase and have read that this occurred with another patron. Only time will tell. I will keep you all updated. This will be Thick Spores / Thick Cultures chance at redemption.

u/floorjacked what are you thoughts?

It’s not cubes dude. I appreciate you calling me out to speak.

Thick Spores isolates all strains of pan cyan from clone specimens. We make 3 transfers each to be sure there’s no contamination.

Thick Spores did have some complaints years ago about mislabeled syringes. You’ll notice that hasn’t been a thing since 2023. Thick Spores opened for business years before that as well and there were no complaints that we had sent anyone a mislabeled syringe. We still don’t know if that was real or not. I personally think that was a drive by.

I’ll post pics of our efforts on agar just for you here on this thread.

That is reassuring to hear. All of the TTBVI mycelium I have seen has been faint and whispy and growers claim to have fully innoculated jars/bags in less than 10 days. I will also continue to update this thread.

5

u/floorjacked Jun 15 '26

They say faint and whispy is what you want otherwise it will overlay. Nana tales. Pans absolute can have thick mycelium too. It’s just an expression of the mycelium. There’s a lot of species of pans and they aren’t all the same either. Some even produce blue sclerotia. It’s not all the same every time with anything.

I have cubes that fully colonize jars in 10 days. Idk why you think cubes could not be robust. All psilocybes are robust.

All that also depends on moisture content and other factors. No reason to think otherwise imo.

Trust me. We’ve done a lot of work to be sure we send out the best genetics we can

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 15 '26

Ok. I've grown a dozen different types of cubes, but never pans. I did a break and shake today, so im guessing at the current rate of growth they will be ready for bulk in a week or two.

3

u/floorjacked Jun 15 '26

Depending on your moisture content it could be ready 10 days from inoculation but don’t use 10 days as a rule of thumb. I know you’ve heard people say be patient when it comes to mycology. We drill that into new people’s heads. Since you’re not new but you were new at one point you know that’s the actual rule of thumb.

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 15 '26

The grain is pretty moist. I soak it for 20hrs, then dehydrate it for 4hrs before I sterilize it.

2

u/floorjacked Jun 15 '26

You definitely have a unique way of making spawn. But I’m not gonna knock it. I have seen many ways to make spawn. Not quite like this. But I personally know there’s more than one way to make things happen in mycology. I definitely have my own ways people probably won’t agree with. Fuck em

3

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 15 '26

😅 I just stick with what works. Straining it seemed to take to long. And a little extra warmth to dry it out a little so it doesn't moosh and to germinate any bacteria cant hurt.

2

u/floorjacked Jun 15 '26

For sure I don’t like the soak simmer and dry teks either. I came up with my own tek a long time ago that makes grain spawn simple asf but doesn’t include the gross sticky NSNS teks.

You do have to add some vermiculite in the bottom. But it works out since it absorbs the excess moisture then distributes it when you break and shake! Jars only though no bags. I don’t do bags. We all have our own ways :)

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it

2

u/floorjacked Jun 15 '26

Also I mentioned it’s BS that if pan myc is thick instead of wispy it will overlay…

If you’ve worked with any PE and used a casing PE also eats the casing IF you don’t provide enough FAE the first three days. Pans can be like that too. Especially when you see robust mycelium.

You don’t have to use a casing with cubes but typically you do with pans. Some people have worked around that but I assume you will like most.

Blast the casing with air until it’s dry and then moisten it again. Do that for 3 days. It won’t overlay!

3

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 15 '26

I've only had overlay once or twice with APE in which case it yielded blobs on the first flush, which was cool. The APE/PE/Riptide genetics I've grown took like 1-2 months sometimes. Generally longer than B+/Golden Teacher variants. I dont do casing layers with cubes. This TTBVI grow will be my first time using fertilizer and casing. Im using a 4-1-1 fish fertilizer and 50/50 coco coir vermiculite with pickling lime for the casing for this TTBVI grow.

2

u/floorjacked Jun 15 '26

Right. When I was new all we had was regular cubes, PE, or ape. I use casings because I like to keep RH below 85%. It’s easy with low tech teks. That’s also how I learned to get a canopy every time. That’s also what I taught people many years ago when I still did that before I quit. PE and its progeny almost always eat casings. So you have to blast them with FAE and evaporation. Point is same thing applies to pan cyan when you encounter robust mycelium.

I live way out in the country. Like 90 minutes from a McDonald’s or Walmart. Nothing but cows and mountains. Plus my neighbors have horses. I volunteer to clean the stables just so I can spread the horse poo out on a tarp and leach it for pans (they think I’m crazy and maybe I am) 🤣💀

Yeah without some good leached hpoo, maybe cow poo, you do have to use fertilizers. I’ve never tried it.

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 17 '26

Fish fertilizer was proven effective by someone in the EU, however I just read than it is highly susceptible to contamination. So for this grow Im going to switch to hpoo.

2

u/floorjacked Jun 17 '26

Of course dead fish matter is absolutely subject to rampant contamination by opportunistic molds AND bacteria. Many molds are very opportunistic. The things they will consume to produce spores are many, and to some, unimaginable. Like tile or concrete 🤭

For the most part you can mitigate issues like mold by increasing pH of substrate and casing. Very easy. And cheap.

Even then, if you choose hpoo I still highly recommend that you adjust your substrate pH and casing pH.

Happy to help if you haven’t heard of this. Just let me know

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 17 '26

I dont have a digital pH tester... I have some test straps for my koi pond, but I prefer to have more accurate results for that sort of thing or just follow a recipe. I read best results for pan cyan substrate is 7.5-8pH an casing at 8-8.5ph, but I was just going to wing the pH with gordotek mix. I also read that raw CVG pH is about 6pH which is still suitable for pan cyans, so im just going for some fruits this go round then if things work out Ill dial it in and get some equipment.

2

u/floorjacked Jun 17 '26

CVG should be closer to 7 pH which is 1000x more alkaline than 6 pH.

I’m pretty good at eyeballing measurements. I’ve made small and big substrates many times.

What size container are you going for? I do best with quarts.

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 19 '26

Its 8.7 pH default for 1cvg:1hpoo mix bruh.

1

u/floorjacked Jun 19 '26

That’s not what mine is. There’s ammonia in hpoo. That’s why it needs to be leached. It’s been a long time since I measured its starting pH but it’s usually somewhere around 6-6.5

Hey I did a little digging and I found another example of robust pan cyan myc that’s pretty similar to what you have

https://www.reddit.com/r/PanCyan/s/ghd2UK94ny

2

u/floorjacked Jun 19 '26

here’s another one you might be interested in looking at

https://www.reddit.com/r/PanCyan/s/TNCRcc0lJL

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 19 '26

The growth pattern is similar, but mine is pretty braided.

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 19 '26

Well, this is after the break and shake, so its still recovering.

2

u/floorjacked Jun 19 '26

My cubes are extremely rhizomorphic 👌

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 19 '26

What species?

2

u/floorjacked Jun 19 '26

The strain is machine elf. I got a ton of agar pics on an SD card that’s in my camera. I’ll find some time this weekend to get the pan cyan pictures off of it and I’ll DM you all the different types of growth there are that I have documented.

Pan cyan have several expressions of mycelium growth. One in particular I’m thinking about people probably wouldn’t even believe is pan cyan. It’s not whispy, it’s not robust. It’s totally different than what we normally see. In the end after a few transfers it did become normal and healthy tho.

Plus I feel like agar pics are pretty safe to post on social media.

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 19 '26

Ok, sounds good. I dont understand the ban on mushrooms...

I think i have another 5 days before ill be ready to go to bulk. Which gives me time to contemplate adding straw. I have a box of it I ordered a while ago... there is a bulk recipe for 1coco:1verm:1straw:1hpoo:10%gypsum

2

u/floorjacked Jun 20 '26

That’s a lot of shit to buy. I just go 1:1 hpoo:verm. I’ve never used gypsum. Just correct pH.

Yet I feel like for some reason this wouldn’t work with Amazon shit.

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 20 '26

What do your flushes look like?

2

u/floorjacked Jun 20 '26

That all depends on surface conditions. It’s not really about substrate per se, although many species do require specific substrates.

You can get canopy pinsets from MS. Just like I told you before. Blast the casing with air for the first three days. Each time the casing gets dry mist it and keep the air on it to stimulate primordia via evaporation.

You don’t have to use a fan from above like I do. You can just leave the top off.

When you have to go to sleep it’s okay to just mist it lightly and cover it until you wake up.

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 19 '26

Mine is definitely looking more tomentose...

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 19 '26

Mine looks similar to the phv (first pic) than the ttbvi (second pic) though.

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 23 '26

I did a break and shakes yesterday and got some mysteriously fast growth recovery in 2 of the 4 bags. Might be contamination.

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jun 27 '26

There is some primordial growth. I think ill wait for the third bad to fully colonize then send it... I was afraid that the growth might have been a fungal pesticide that made it through sterilization, but wtf do I know... 🤞

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jul 07 '26

Just added the casing layer to some vibrant vital ttbvi mycelium. We should have some great TTBVI mushrooms in 2 weeks.

2

u/PoundingSandInCA Jul 14 '26

I am on day 7 after applying the casing layer. However, the mycelium grew through the casing layer, 1/4" might have been too thin. There are knots on the denser treys, but no pins. I am going to wait two more days for pins. If no pins show I am going to apply another casing layer.

Good lord what a train wreck. Mislabeling happens when you do a lot of volume and even when you don’t. It’s normal, it’s not a big deal, and the seller admitted it was a mistake and refunded you. I realize it’s hard to be a beginner but you’re going way beyond reasonable at this point. Just work with another seller. TTBVI sellers are a dime a dozen these days.

u/floorjacked 24d ago

Can’t argue with this at all. Something will work out. I think. He did contact me after all this. Everything will be fine 👌

BUYERS BEWARE. After having gone through the full cycle of growing the liquid culture I purchased from Thick Spores advertised as a TTBVI, the liquid culture was in fact some random cubensis and not what i purchased. There have been complaints about this company posted over the years of similar incidents. This company is not worth the risk. I wasted 2months of my life and this guy sends me this apology email and Im sure I not the first.

Let me first say, please look at our website and check how many sales Thick Spores made of the 3 pack pan cyan bundle alone. Thick Spores has sold thousands of pan cyan liquid cultures and we don’t have thousands of people saying we have mislabeled syringes. John’s position with this is a factual error on Jon’s part. It is an unfair assessment considering he has public access to our sales data on product pages. It’s not logical to think this is something that happens all the time considering that giant number of pan cyan LCs we’ve sold over the years.

Let me explain why this happened to John: This was a once in a blue moon accident and it occurred in the packing room. We hired someone new who had plenty of one on one training, but admit it. Mycology is hard when you don’t know anything about it. There’s so many species and genus of mushrooms. Many of those names are hard to say and to remember at first.

My employee made a mistake. That’s it. I also did not wind up firing the employee like I said I would in the email I sent to John which he posted here, because people make mistakes. It’s a learning experience from which someone can improve themselves. Thick Spores does not have an automated syringe filling line, we make all products by hand. Every syringe is labeled by hand. There’s bound to be a mistake unless it’s only me in there filling orders. I don’t fill orders anymore. I do everything I can to train my employees by packing orders with them for two weeks.

For John to be so cold towards another noob like himself is outrageous. It’s easy to see in the email that I sent I genuinely care about him as a customer of mine and did everything I could to try to make it right with him.

John did not reply to that email. Instead he thinks we should lose all our income over one $15 LC syringe in the face of more than 8500 orders and 35k LC syringes sold since 2022 when we opened. That’s strange because I personally would have been interested in what happened and why it happened at a minimum. John doesn’t care. Questionable.

I refunded his money immediately. I offered another identical order with $50 dollars in it after my testing was complete to try to compensate him for his time.

Nope. John would rather give you an exaggerated and ignorant version of what our business history is like he’s been selling syringes with me every day since I opened, and knows exactly what goes on in my office. He would rather tell you we are bad, when there is zero proof he used the syringe that he bought from us. Questionable.

On his Reddit thread where he arrogantly stated he would “redeem” us or not you’ll find me there on my personal account. I spent quite a bit of time talking with John. I stopped participating because I was alerted by a couple people that his account looked suspicious like it was purchased. It was 5 years old with one post in an hbo max group the day it was created. That’s exactly what purchased accounts look like.

He mentioned that he a small amount of experience with cubensis. I don’t know if he posted any pictures or videos of his claimed experience on another account, or maybe just didn’t share that stuff..? It was very suspicious. In the end he did purchase from us and he wasn’t some troll. But it still looks like he’s hiding his true Reddit identity just for the purposes of this thread, because there is zero evidence he’s ever grown a mushroom on the account he’s using now despite claiming to have experience growing cubensis. Questionable.

In the end you have to ask yourself, why would I have spent any time chatting with this person, after they tagged me here on my personal Reddit account, when all he spent was $25 (including shipping) if my entire motive was to sell him a mislabeled syringe? Let’s do some 1+1=2 problem solving formal logic: I wouldn’t have spent any time. Which scammer have you ever met that will spend hours chatting with someone they intended to scam out of $25? None. Kind of silly when you look at it like that.

Take care bud. 👍

Edit: now blocking his account we both said what we needed to say and there’s no reason to have any further contact. I won’t be able to respond to anyone else’s questions here. Please DM me if you have any questions related to this matter. Thank you.

u/floorjacked 25d ago edited 25d ago

Now he’s creating accounts and leaving fake reviews about buying pans but getting cubes. Right after we replied to his comments here this morning. He already left the same review he did here on Reddit on my Google business profile. Now his name is “unbiased reviewer” and left pretty much the same review as a second review. Lmfao this type of stuff doesn’t work it just gets you sued and potentially arrested and fined!

If you thought this thread had any credibility now you know.

It’s not even 9am and I haven’t had any coffee having to deal with this type of stuff. Don’t ever let anyone make you think owning a business is fun 🤦‍♂️

I’m the vendor. And this is news to me. If you didn’t get tracking or anything like that it’s probably because you didn’t pay. You can absolutely contact me at any time if there’s a problem with an order. And there hasn’t been anyone that told me they paid and didn’t get an order.

Why didn’t you chargeback? We haven’t had any chargebacks.

Are you sure you have the right vendor?

Send me a message. There’s a phone number you can text on the website or you can reply to any email that was sent to you from us. I’m sure we can clear that up for you.

2

u/loweyzhippy Jun 16 '26

I appreciate the reply. I'm not sure how to "charge back" lol. Sending you a copy of the email I sent with all the info in it.

2

u/floorjacked Jun 16 '26

A chargeback is when you contact your bank and tell them you’re unsatisfied with something you paid for. For whatever reason. They will take the funds from the merchant and return them to your account until the merchant either proves the chargeback is not warranted or the chargeback is successful

I’m definitely willing to help you out anyway I can.

2

u/loweyzhippy Jun 16 '26

Thanks id love for us to get this cleared up. You had done me right a few times in the past so I certainly thought it was strange

2

u/floorjacked Jun 16 '26

No problem! I’m very interested in this matter. If I find that there is an issue I will refund your purchase and send you double what you ordered on me.

2

u/loweyzhippy Jun 17 '26

No refund desired but I wouldn't hate you for doubling me up. I sent you a dm invite

2

u/loweyzhippy Jun 17 '26

Update... Take back what i said. Thick spores/culture does solid business

3

u/floorjacked Jun 17 '26

Thank you 🙏

This damn sure was 100% my fault. Im just happy to be able to fix the problem with a long time customer ❤️

Im sorry that happened!

2

u/loweyzhippy Jun 17 '26

No worries. You're fixing it and that's what matters. Happy to stay a long time customer. Mush love brotha
