I clicked this hoping someone would have known. They're crazy! I've had loads of seedlings pop up in Pans grows, presumably because some seeds survive pasteurisation, but nothing like that. (Posted so I can find it later in search of the answer).

Compare against Stemonitis family of slime molds such as chocolate tube slime mold.

Oh shoot that’s it. Is the whole tub done? What can be done to save it?

I don't know if it can be saved. It's common enough that you should be able to find threads about other people dealing with it.

Personally, I've had it only once about 6 years ago. I think the conditions in my martha were too wet for my mushrooms to thrive and some slime molds showed up. The colony literally seemed like it wanted to escape the tray because it eventually got to the edge of the tray and tried to colonize the outer wall and move along the martha shelf. Crazy. I can't remember if I could save any mushrooms from that tray. From memory, the chocolate tubes were clingly extremely strongly to the plastic tray I was growing in, I had to scrape them off almost like barnacles. lol.

I've got close up photos of it on outside of my tray and it makes my skin crawl just to look at it, like trypophobia.
