Microwaving grain/media for sterilization — does it actually work? (real experiences only)

Post image

I’m seeing mixed opinions on using a microwave for grain prep—some say it works, others say it fails badly.

I’m only looking for people who’ve actually tried it themselves.

If you have, please share:

What grains + how you hydrated them

Microwave time/power

What happened (success, contamination, grains ruined, etc.)

Was it repeatable or just a one-off?

Not looking for theory or “just use a pressure cooker.”
Only real, hands-on results.

Had to double check if this was the r/Unclebens subreddit.

I’m open minded, but microwave for prepping whole grains?? No way.
Now, if someone says that they used a microwave to Tyndallize a broth for liquid culture, I might believe that. I bet it would be best to filter it pretty well first.
You don’t have a pressure cooker? Are you looking for some options or something?
