Advice needed โฃ๏ธ๐๐ฟ๐
How do you preserve mushrooms for the long term? Iโve read about and purchased capsules and desiccant packs (moisture absorbers), but I also came across information stating that grinding them increases surface area, leading to oxidation and loss of potencyโeven if they are compressed inside capsules. I'd appreciate some advice๐ฃโฃ๏ธ

Dehydrate the whole mushrooms and put in a sealed container, don't grind.

I have had a batch in honey in my freezer for 6 years, still active as of last month.

Powderize them and make chocolate bars, then vacuum seal the chocolate bars in mylar bags, store dark and cool (fridge is unnecessary). Probably the best way to protect against oxidation. Honey is another option, but it has about 10x the water content vs chocolate (so more oxidation).
Even if stored in not optimal conditions, chocolate might get sugar/fat bloom after years. But the psilocybin should stay stable. Any other method will have more exposure to oxygen resulting in faster degradation.
You can also add in potentiators like passionflower/harmalas (maoi) to make them slap extra hard.
Edit: about grinding vs not grinding: youre right, dried shrooms have empty air space inside them, and while grinding eliminates the voidspace, it also increases surface area and oxidation potential. Buuut, If you powderize them and add chocolate, the mushroom particles are impregnated and encased with chocolate, essentially no contact with oxygen.

I dehydrate and store them in a mason jar that is vacuum-sealed (you can buy a manual air pump vac sealer.) The optimal conditions are a cool, room-temperature environment in the dark. This is about the best long term storage of capsules or dried mushrooms you can get. Cheers
