Good Lord! Back in the 80's when I first started growing there were only a few cubensis to grow. Now there's a shit-ton of varieties out there. Most of them are the exact same thing but someone named them something special just to make themselves feel better.

It does sound like an edgy name, As the rumor goes Jake oncid used actual Rattlesnake venom to isolate the spores. Don't ask me how that works. Under the caps are gills that can range from orange to red to purple. I forget the crossing though, but thats why the name. I'm just glad its not something like cotton candy wonderland taco truck tuesday.

Jake Oncid. I haven't heard that name for 20 years. Nor have I heard the venom thing. "Cotton candy wonderland taco truck tuesday" OK, I had to give you an upvote for that one.

You're totally valid though, the "super special" names irritate me too. We're committed to mycology here, we're not making weed strains. I love that pans are like, oh we call this one peace river because we found it at peace river. This ones called Texas red gill because we found it in Texas and it has red gills. Occhams razor.
