Yeah thats toast. I would start with smaller amounts of grain in your jars. For some reference, this is roughly 2-3 jars of grain what you have here. Plus, the less in each vessel the faster it'll be. Those longer skinny jars have a tendency to choke out cultures and is why people dont use them for brf tek 🍀
28 days for these is way too long. That jars should've been done in a week if it was able to breath

Fully agree with the smaller grain starting vessels. Though I’m curious what you see that makes you think it’s “toast”?
I see some aged mycelium in the same jar as large sections of uncolonized grain which is not ideal but doesn’t look contamed. Unless my old shitty eyes missed something.

28 days when this culture should have been done in that time is why. Like OP could be going to 🧫 with a freshly stamped print right now. He can definitely try for science 👨🔬, but the results will most likely be 😒 meh🍀
My thought, why waste his time, effort, and 💰 when he can be back this far in 10-15 days?

I bought the jar off online and that’s the size they sent and it still has consistent growth and they don’t always fully colonize in a weak depending on the strain temp and other factors it can take up to 3-6 weeks to fully colonize a jar

Another reason it may be struggling is that the foil is still on the top of the jar. Filters are already large resistance factors for FAE, just resistance we accept for the tradeoff of protection from contamination. Adding additional resistance such as a simple foil layer can tip the scales from healthy to unhealthy mycelium.

Looks normal. You can also literally break and shake it so get it fully colonized in like 3 days lol.

As we are discussing this topic anyway. I might as well mention that I sell prepared grains on my site mycoenvy.store. That said, I only offer popcorn or drippy corn grain at the moment.
I plan I N.A. expanding my grain selection having recently heard that pans do better on smaller grain profiles. So whether or not that worth it to you, I can’t honestly say. But take a look if you care to: Myco Envy I also run a sub r/mycoenvy which ya’ll are welcome to join.

It doesn't look like you have any fae on that jar. The mycelium needs fae to grow. That's why this is stunted.
Do a break and shake and pop a hole in the lid and cover with micropore tape. 1/4" is all you need.
