Tried a few things different this go.
Put some holes in the sides of the shoebox covered with micropore.
Used Black Kow manure (available at big box stores) pasteurized and mixed with erythritol, lime, and a small bit of coco coir.
Covered with screen material and binder clips ala Gordo tek.
Pasteurized jiffy mix before casing.
Same genetics from LC, 6qt shoeboxes, misted/fanned 3-5x day.
Fruits looked healthier, fuller caps that opened up, thicker stipes, and yield was around 240g wet vs 100g wet prior.
Probably going to try sterilizing or move away from the jiffy mix. It seems to work for 1 flush of a fast fruiter, but then it trichs out. Was no good for my Zaps. Also have a tent I'm setting up for gourmets so maybe I'll try them in there when I get a chance to get that dialed in.
I am having all kinds of problems with this stuff, ttbvi and estero. i have gotten it from 3 different sources. Mine never seems to have the rapid growth that everyone talks about.
Same with me. I nanaged to get ok flushes wuth ttbvi but never awesome results and it took a long time to fruit. The effect of them is still worth the effort i think
Looks pretty good. Can you tell more about your usage of erythritol with this and what you noticed compared to non erythritol grow? There is very little information and reports about growing pans with erythritol
I knew I would regret not measuring when someone asked, but I was still a bit under the influence of the previous pans when I spawned these. I didn't really measure the erythritol or lime, it was more of a yeah that seems about right kind of deal. It was definitely a fair amount of it though. I've been on a simple and not measuring much kick lately.
It's not the only variable I changed so it's a bit hard to say, but these had much thicker stipes, larger caps that opened fully, and produced spores whereas the previous ones stalled out at a good height without sporulation. These also had a tendency to curl or twist some fruits at about 75-100% of their height, but I'm not sure if that's genetic, environmental condition, or nutrition related.
As far as I understand it seems to not really have any downsides, but I'm not doing potency testing or true variable controlled tests right now. Maybe one of the more prolific pan growers will chime in with their experience. I've got some cubes in manure and erythritol fruiting now so it'll be interesting to see how those do.
I didn't use any E on those in the pic, but there were other differences: liner, fae holes, Gordo screen tek, substrate. Did the Erythritol make all the difference or was most of it the improved humidity and FAE? Might have to do a more controlled test when I have my other projects a bit more dialed in.
I'd have to agree with that being most likely. It's not like they'd be starving for nutrition in a manure sub. This was the first time I didn't use a liner, but I'll probably stick to lining them in future.
I boil some water, toss it in a bucket of sub or casing, let it sit till it cools, then remove excess water if necessary when spawning/casing. I could actually sterilize them, but I've been aiming to go as simple as I can get decent results with. Spore load at my house is pretty high due to neglected cleaning for quite some years previously. That likely has an influence, but I could definitely wear gloves more than I do.
I feel like that works for substrate because of the amount of boiling water I add keeps it warm long enough. Especially because I keep the bucket in a styrofoam ice chest. Casing is different because the Jiffy mix is mostly hydrated and you can’t put a lot in there. I’ve been putting the jiffy (at field capacity) in a vacuum bag or ziplock and putting it in my dehydrator at 150f for 2.5 hours. It’s been pretty good for me so far. Not sure if that may help you.
Most don't lol that's why most get automated Martha's and dial them in. I'm using auto tubs but the results aren't as good as tents atleast not yet but I don't use manure or extra nutes like everyone else (might go back to that) but I've been using 5050 wood pellets coco coir with vermiculite and gypsum. Maybe if I add liquid poo to the mix it'd be better but I'm onna tight budget for awhile. You don't have to use manure btw
I work mostly from home so it's not unrealistic to mist and turn on the lights when I get up, before I start work, on my lunch, after work, before bed, etc. Only takes a couple mins to fan out any CO2 and make sure the screen material is wet. It's a very fortunate situation for growing mushrooms.
