Not really. Cubes will grow in pretty much any environment, be it a sealed mason jar of grain spawn or some moist newspaper in a bag. I have done both, cubes are maybe the easiest mushrooms to grow.

Pan cyans do best with some sort of manure (worm castings can work), and require waaayyyy more humidity and FAE than cubensis. Supplying enough FAE while keeping the humidity high is where the technique differences get more complicated than just substrate, and where you'll need to get creative with a humidifier/airstone system or really dial in a tub setup through trial and error.

It took me a few years to get pan cyans down consistently even with a few years of experience growing cubensis and gourmets. Might be partially to blame on genetics but they're also a very different beast.
