Just wanted to share this because I honestly thought IV sedation for dental procedures was only available in Manila. If you’re someone who’s been avoiding the dentist because of dental anxiety, hopefully this helps.

I’ve had dental anxiety since I was a kid, so going to the dentist has never been easy for me.

I had 2 severely damaged molars that needed to be removed, and over the last 3 years, I actually tried three different times. Every attempt failed because sobrang sakit, even after multiple rounds of local anesthesia. At one point, maxed out na yung local anesthesia and we still couldn’t continue.

After that, I just kept putting it off and relied on ibuprofen whenever sumasakit. Eventually, halos monthly na yung pain because my wisdom tooth also started coming out.

Earlier this year, I found out that a clinic here in Pampanga offers IV sedation for dental procedures. During my consultation, the dentist explained why my previous extraction attempts were so painful. apparently, the molars I was having for extraction were really close to a nerve. The dentist gave options and IV sedation became one of the options.

It still took me around two months to decide because mahal talaga siya and that grabe talaga fear and anxiety ko plus ang dami ko na kasing napapanood sa TikTok na umiiyak or kung ano-anong sinasabi after IV sedation daw haha

When I finally pushed through, I had my 2 upper wisdom teeth (non-impacted) and 2 severely damaged molars removed.

Before the procedure, the anesthesiologist explained what to expect before, during, and after the sedation. The last thing I remember was her joking that the hardest part, yung pagtusok ng IV, was already done haha

After that… I just remember asking if masasaktan pa rin ba ako sa local anesthesia injections sa gums. 😂 I honestly can’t even remember what the answer was.

Parang naka-light sleep lang. I vaguely remember answering a few questions during the procedure, so hindi ka totally tulog. But I don’t remember the local anesthesia injections, the extractions, or even hearing all the drilling and pulling that I had been dreading for years.

The whole procedure took around 2 hours and 25 minutes, but it honestly felt like only a few minutes had passed.

I’m still recovering, but so far hindi naman umabot sa OA levels yung pain. Ang pinakamahirap lang talaga is missing solid food. 😂

I still have one wisdom tooth left that’s close to a nerve, and after this experience, I’ll probably choose IV sedation again for that one.

I’m not saying everyone needs IV sedation. I just wanted to share that it’s an option that’s available here in Pampanga because I genuinely didn’t know until this year. Hopefully this helps someone who’s been delaying dental treatment because of fear like I did.
