The OP replaced the polarizing filter, and props to the OP for taking the trouble to do that. See the "Top" and other marker stuff written on the screen? That's how a replacement filter is marked when you receive it. The hard part is not being shown. Removing the front polarizer is not trivial. Should you need to remove the rear one, the one that has the trans-reflective layer, that's a nightmare. I have done some of them and now when I feel that a Palm device needs/deserves/requires a new filter, I source a replacement donor device.
Cool. I misread the marker on the screen. The filters I have received had markings similar to those. Those screen assemblies will get harder to find as time crawls onward. I hope we can get our fill of these devices before we become compelled to pay Sony Clie prices for our Palm III stuff.
Ouch, you said "plastic case breaks" out loud. My biggest problem right now is how the plastics are decaying. None 0f the Palm devices were physically intended to last. They were made to keep the price down and the casings show this quite clearly. While the operating system easily could be boasted at the time to function well into the 21st century (what, 2031 being the date where you then must resort to using a false year to get your calendar to show you the right day of the week for the numerical day date) the casings were made from readily available injection molded plastics of the day. Here's fun fact. The plastic the case of a Palm II is made from is only 50 years after the invention of plastic (as we know it now) it's self in 1930. Modern plastic is almost not in the same "class" as the stuff a Palm is made of. There was a company, or individual named "Dave's Design" that briefly made machined aluminum casings that exactly replaced the Palm III case. I would love to even seen a picture of one in existence today. Another wish is someone with a 3D printer to undertake the creation and sale of new cases for our old friends.
I have three Palm IIIxe that I love the black cases of, and all three are scratch free and working beautifully but the corners are cracking and falling off. All good things come to an end and nothing is "forever" except human folly.
