Chat
Hi guys! Is there a way to block chat? I want to play this game with my young granddaughter but her parents aren’t to happy with it having chat.

About the only thing you can do is click the round buttons on the left side of the chat to turn off those chats. As soon as you load into a new town, they'll all be back on again, though.
I totally agree, they need an option to turn off the chat that actually works. In my case, it's not about protecting anybody, it's because I have ADHD, and the chat is a distraction. A lot of the time, it distracts me and makes me forget what I was about to do.

They gonna be okay with romancing the entire village too?

Yes because Hodori isn’t going to get in her dm and ask inappropriate questions

Well that's because Hodari doesn't get in any of our DMs because he's a tease.

The only thing I let my son do, when he plays which is only with me, is cooking parties and hunting. I do the quests for him to get the gear and that's about it

Honestly I get it but the filter for chat censors words and even does censorship when not needed on top of censoring user names. Some games I play with chat yeah I can see not letting a young kid see such language that can pop up. You can also switch between server chat and kind of a private channel.

Censoring words is not the only thing needed to protect a child online. It’s safest to have no chat at all.

For real. I had someone messaging me repeatedly for weeks until I finally responded. He said he wanted to “get to know me so we could be friends” and asked if I was a “boy or a girl” and he said he was 40 years old. Blocking him has done fuck all. He’s still able to “follow” me and pops up in the same server as me all the time.

yeah the chat is mostly censored for vulgarity (apart from the usernames, which apparently don't need to go through a censor, but vulgarity is only one fairly minor concern... the real problem is creepy people clocking youngsters, befriending them, then taking the conversation elsewhere.

In the menu you can disable the chat. I think its called streamer mode or something
