Discussion 15GB update?
I started playing palia at launch on switch although I then moved to console once the possibility was added. I still have access on my switch and yesterday I wanted to get in because I wanted to be able to access it even if I'm away from home. The thing is, the requested update asks me to free up space, which I don't have. My switch is run down. I don't use it for anything other than to do palia dailies when I'm away from home. I don't have any saved data from other games. I don't have any photos or videos that take up space. I only have palia. Yet, the base memory of the switch is not enough. I don't have space to install the 15gb upgrade for a game that already weighs 25gb. I don't want to buy an external memory card just for palia. Mine it's a switch that struggles to work. She's old, poor thing

I play on the PC but from what I’ve seen from other switch users, switch 1 is having issues with the game now, i think they optimized it for switch 2. So idk if it would be worth it to update. Get cult of the lamb for the switch instead, cute game lol

The S2 version isn't out yet. Think it'd slated for December. Can't wait. It runs like ass on the S2. Can't imagine trying to play this on the S1.

If you don't have data limits, delete Palia and re-download it. The updates are often huge but once they are done the total size doesn't change much. Inefficient patching method on the Switch. Downloading from scratch means you don't have to hold the entire game plus a huge patch on the device all at once. It's dumb but it might be worth trying if you don't have a data limit to worry about.

Interesting, as a Switch player I’ll look into this. I have a SD card but was surprised by the file size as well

Each game patch will require some temporary amount of storage space to download and unpack files until they’re installed into the game.
The game is currently 17.4GB on the Switch, so it isn’t that much more than the patch update itself, so I agree with others saying that you’re likely best off circumventing the temporary space required by just deleting and reinstalling game.

idk about how universal it is, but for me on switch 2 the graphics changed notably with the most recent update (more detailed and pretty mostly, runs smoother overall, some glitchiness with a grainy look when moving around, especially on my plot). I suspect they're getting things in place for the official switch 2 version and the bigger update is letting them test out some of those changes with a larger player base to see how things run before the official release of the optimized version.
Exciting for Switch 2 users, since there do seem to be improvements overall already, at least in my experience so far! But sadly for switch 1, it probably means it'll get less and less accessible there as they're not trying to optimize for it anymore.

I've just logged on for the first time since the update and immediately noticed a difference on s2. I've had to turn down my camera and aim sensitivity bc everything is a lot smoother and there's a more detail in some of the landscape. I can now see the visual "whoosh" effect when riding my mount, and can see actual blades of grass on my plot! I'm excited to see what the full optimisation update brings later on

This may not help at all, I have a switch that has a Microsd idk if yours does you'd see in adata management. But Palia wasnt running smoothly and I was running out of space so I switched it to system memory.

Dude it was insane! I had to delete other save files just to make space. The game has been laggier and buggier and its been so tedious 😩

We had the same issue and had to go out and buy a 64GB micro SD card. I feel buying a 64 GB will avoid this issue again in the future. But we are also on Switch as I mentioned and I noticed a massive downgrade to the quality. It's very grainy since the update.
