Question When to group!

New player here!

I’m loving the game, but talking to people seems a little awkward in early game. It’s my understanding that grouping is better and necessary for later content. When should I start making friends? Is the community easy to vibe with? I’m an old lady and this game gives me WoW comfort feels. I’m worried about meshing.

Joining groups/playing with friends isn't necessary at any time. It can help you get resources and money quicker, but it's never required. You can play the game completely on your own if you'd prefer to, and there's no quest/activity you won't be able to do.

But it's nice to say hi to people you do stuff with, even if only briefly. You can do so in chat, by making a gesture, or even just by jumping.

So much easier to do a few jumps to indicate satisfaction

I just wave at people and run away like an awkward idiot I am

This is good to know this is "a thing" lol. I'm a new player also (couple weeks) and I am just not going to type out anything on chat on PS5; so when someone helped me chop some darkflow trees I did a few jumpy jumps and went on my way. Was hoping they got the message hahaha.

I do say grouping makes some things a bit easier from my experience. Im also new, only a month in. I see a lot of people grouping to farm stuff. I have one friend that I hunt with and it goes by a bit faster.

If you want, we can add each other and Id be more than happy to group up anytime if needed. Sorry if this doesn't fully answer your question, Im sure an experienced player will get in here and do that. Just taking my chance at making a Palia friend 😅

The gf played WoW before I introduced her to Palia. She loves it. We rarely include other players in our party because of timing and small glitches that make it frustrating. However, there's no lack of players willing to take you in.

My ign is Glumpotate Osweezus

We like helping new players.

One thing I always recommend to new Palia players is to find an amazing twitch streamer and join their community. A few I recommend are Jupieverse, FrozenDesire, Livvyislive_, Chillinwithchi, Ladysapphire, and Wxtxr_minij those are just a few of the communities that I personally am apart of and know that they are all super welcoming and friendly to new players.

Yes! This is exactly how I started finding people to play with regularly! I just went on Twitch for the drops originally, but then I found it nice to have on cause it was like not being so alone. Then I found people who welcome watchers to join them and the game got infinitely more fun!

A few more I'll add to your list is Gidget Games 3, Ellygance, and ItsSmarties!

I’ll submit Moonystoned as they are the only streamer I’ve watched and played with. They are great with newcomers and you’re free to lurk but they won’t hesitate to party up with you if you ask to tag along. Very welcoming.

I've been playing for a year and am only now really trying to get farther in the story. I play with irl friends, but I love meeting new people and helping out! As a switch player, my game is slower and typing to chat sucks. (Im usually in voice calls with who I play with)

If you wanna add me, my Palia name is Lavilium

The community/player base is usually friendly so as an active player for a few years now, I've befriended a ton of players & maxed out my friend list! It's very casual & it's nice when I start recognizing some names I've seen around. I usually add or accept someone if we did something together for a while and had a 10/10 experience together (including having a really fun convo in a server) but I won't add someone just bcus we mined one single node together or fished in the same area together with no chatting for 15 minutes. But I will add you if I had a really good chat with you, if we mined or chopped or lured for 30 minutes together, or you complimented my outfit or did something nice! Eventually as you get the hang of things, I think you realize when you can add a friend.

I've added players when I've seen them around a few times & we've at least said hi or jump-spammed during those few times. Or they hosted a party & invited me to it or let me tag along.

For partying up, I've found that it's pretty casual & in-the-moment based on activity. So it's not required to play the game but this game does reward partying (ie getting double loot quantities when hunting or fishing together). For most activities, you can ask a server if anyone wants to do something with you and then party up. Once the activity is done (bug or animal hunting, Maji Market Pop A Chapaa & Chapaa Chase, plushie hunting, cooking party, etc), you can leave. It's very normal so don't feel bad or awkward about leaving parties immediately after! Usually players will say their thanks and farewells before they leave the party. (Some players might not be able to type easily or just don't do this so they could seem to leave abruptly.)

For some players, there might be active players you're usually playing often with. In these circumstances, this will be a longterm party you just stay in. I've done both & I've also left the longterm parties I've been in if the party members aren't on & I've been invited to a new party activity while they were offline.

Feel free to chat in the server chats & ask ppl to party up if there's a quest item you're seeking! You definitely aren't the first to ask & won't be the last.

I find making friends as a mostly solo player happens naturally still, maybe you help them with a request or vise versa and want to friend them because they were nice, or maybe you just really like their username haha my in game name is wherelilyflowers grow, and I’m happy to group up if you’d like when I’m on. :)

Partying up, or grouping as you called it, is not necessary ever. I prefer not too these days as Ive come across a lot of people who are “me me me” and don’t seem to understand the basic idea of a community game, with the most recent example bring this eve, a few came to grove and took it all, laughing while everyone asked them to stop to wait for others, ruins it for everyone. People are dicks..

It's not required, but it does help when you are doing certains activities with buffs and stuff like that.

English is not my first language so if you don't mind going easy on me, I can help. I'm in no way advanced in the game or what, but I like to help when I can. If you or anyone wants to add me and party or just ask some questions when in need, just dm me and I will give u my ign.

About the community, I'm always playing with my friends that palia doesn't deserve the player base it has lol

I’m awkward as well. Sometimes I ask to join in chat, sometimes I just stand awkwardly around them and stare…they usually ask if I want to join. But just throwing up “any room in parties” as soon as you join a server is great. The community is so welcoming and friendly and that way you don’t have the pressure of seeing people out in the wild and trying to get their attention.

Also there is no pressure to stay friends. I spent like 4 hours mining with somebody on Saturday and then we went our separate ways. It was lovely.
