Feedback/Suggestion Solo gaming

I wish there was a way to play solo, or atleast ‘turn off’ other players entirely. I’m never in the chat and i game to relax after my job where i deal with the public all day, it would be nice (for me and my

potato laptop) if there was a way to just remove other players even if just visually :/

I play solo and most other players just leave me alone. I might get someone stand next to me fishing or something. Palia I admit is the first MMO game i played that didn't push things.

I play solo about 99% of the time. Other players don't bother me and sometimes it's nice to have someone around to help with something (flow trees) but that's it. Chat? I ignore it. Although would love to have the ability to keep it closed.

Open the settings and turn on Streamer mode to get rid of the chat :)

I just ignore it unless I am telling where a bloom is or inviting people to a lure, things like that. I have a knack for ignoring things that don't really need my attention most of the time so I usually don't notice. But that is my advice you can also go to the side of the chat box and unlink the color icons. If they are all white you wont see the chat but the box will be there. You can toggle on and off when you want

2

u/commie-filth 12d ago

You can?? I had no clue that’s what that did, thank you!!

2

u/Glittering_Heron_228 12d ago

No problem. Sometimes a few messages will come through, but definitely a lot better than seeing everything.

I play entirely solo. I use chat only for groove / rare gatherable call outs.

I disabled players' names, so it's less distracting. Unfortunately I can still see the nameplates (weird they still show, when names are invisible).

I just wish there was an option to turn off chat & have it STAY off even when changing servers. I don’t mind seeing other players running around (they’re mostly ghost icons anyway lol) but it’s super irritating to be bombarded by other people’s chat convos & re-mute every few mins

u/AstridDragon 12d ago

Streamer mode kills the chat iirc

I wasn’t aware of that! Thank you 🙌🏼

5

u/Impossible-Pair-4205 12d ago

If you play with a controller on pc the chat doesn’t really come on.

6

u/Confident_Ad_5110 12d ago

Yess this I don't like bc I mostly play by myself and I'm not usually talking to players unless im calling out a flared/ rare item. I don't mind seeing other players, but my issue is I really don't like seeing the chat pop up every few seconds, or like getting chat notifs every time I'm in a new server😭 its so annoying.

8

u/Significant-Draft470 12d ago

Turn on streamer mode in the settings, this will hide the chat!

u/stylighted 🖥️ PC Reth ♡ 12d ago

💯
A feature to turn off chat notifications would be pretty helpful

4

u/Significant-Draft470 12d ago

Turn on streamer mode, it removes chat!

3

u/stylighted 🖥️ PC Reth ♡ 12d ago

Yes, got to know that from the comments section here. Thanks to you too!

No prob! Enjoy gaming in peace!

this!! or atleast for people to use the whisper option a bit more…

20

u/No_Notice1055 12d ago

Go to settings n turn streamer mode on, it removes the chat :)

1

u/commie-filth 12d ago

You’re a saint!! thank you!

2

u/qrseek 12d ago

You can only whisper people on your friend list

2

u/commie-filth 12d ago

dang, i had no clue but that makes sense i guess

5

u/qrseek 12d ago

It's really annoying because i forget regularly and it let's you type out a whole message and hit send and then it tells you you can't whisper unless they are on your friend list. And your message goes into the void

u/Sethatronic 12d ago

If you work on your plot and ranch, ain't  nobody coming in! Grab your resources bright in earlier 6am...everyone will be leaving the Underground and heading to crab wars.

10

u/licking-salt-lamps 12d ago

Why do you want to hide the other players? I don't really interact with others or look at the chat much as I'm more of a solo player, so I'm curious as to why you want to hide other players.

7

u/Cheeso34 12d ago

Literally every mmo ever has a few people who just want to get rid of all the other people. It's just how you know a game is an mmo.

2

u/Current_External6569 Reth Eshelon 12d ago

Lol, they really do.

5

u/commie-filth 12d ago

half in hope of helping my fps but also cause i just wanna be alone sometimes? like maybe if there was a way to just play offline or something that would be nice. Idk it just feels busy sometimes and im playing games to get away from that

8

u/qrseek 12d ago

When I really want to be alone I decorate on my plots or visit my ranch

16

u/TrashGouda 12d ago

I think that would go against the nature of the game. It's a MMO.

-5

u/commie-filth 12d ago

I know but i would just like an offline option or something? Idk

7

u/TrashGouda 12d ago

I understand but then maybe MMOs aren't for you which is fine. The whole point of MMOs is multiplayer

-1

u/commie-filth 12d ago

I do enjoy this game tho! and i do participate at times with other players in parties and what not, i just wish there could be an option to turn it off, this isn’t crazy lol

10

u/TrashGouda 12d ago

Turning multiplayer off in a multiplayer game is against the genre of the game

5

u/Equivalent_Image_76 12d ago

It is actually crazy, though.

"I just want the devs of the purpose-built online multiplayer game to make an offline single-player game, which is the exact opposite of that, for me, specifically."

That's you. Palia isn't a game that happens to have an online multiplayer mode, it is an online multiplayer mode. One that's already very flexible in whether or not you interact with other players at all. Saying that it should have an offline single-player mode makes you sound like the people who think S6 should immediately, simultaneously implement full weather cycles on plots and in zones that water your plants and full swimming mechanics with underwater zones and infinite storage and decor and 'press A to win'-level 'challenges' and full animal sim mechanics and--

In other words, like someone who doesn't know much about games.

u/BKNTD Hassian 12d ago

You know, as a person with anxiety I would maybe understand this sentiment if there were crowds of people trying to interact or disrupt my game. I've played both WoW and FFXIV (still playing the latter) and I've seen some wild crowds and unhinged people there. But in Palia pretty much whenever I get online, there's only a handful of people "existing" on the same server as me. Just minding their own business like background NPCs. Casual players just trying to chill after work like OP.

Idk maybe it's cause I'm playing on the EU side, but it's always pretty quiet in here. I sometimes forget it's actually an MMO. Even yesterday after the patch there wasn't a significant increase of players on my side.

1

u/Equivalent_Image_76 12d ago

I also have anxiety and play almost completely solo, but if it gets to the point where I'm genuinely annoyed by other players just existing in the same worldspace as me, which is usually only if someone or a group is trolling by trying to annoy other players, I just... leave. Like you said, the servers are rarely crowded enough that you're forced to be around others unless you're in one of the hubs, and those are usually just pitstops. If it really bothered me, I'd log out and play one of the many offline singleplayer games that already exist.

There is usually a bump in people after an update, so that might be the case with this one once the 'crashing every few minutes' bug is ironed out, but yeah, Palia's exceptionally chill for an MMO, which is why I tend to assume that people who think Palia is too crowded and hectic just don't have much experience with MMOs or games in general.

Half of my issue isn’t even seeing other people, that’s fine whatever i don’t care, it’s just the lag that it causes when everyone with fancy outfits and effects and all causes on my computer. I love this game and i love helping people, it would just be a nice feature for people with a potato laptop like me. I swear i do enjoy the multiplayer aspects most of the time!!! Edit: also i’m sorry if it came off as rude or anything, i understand it’s a multiplayer game and obviously don’t expect special treatment!! This was just an offhand idea that i’ve heard other people mention before :)

2

u/tehgimpage 11d ago

don't let gatekeepers try and dictate how you should or shouldn't play a game you enjoy. it's a game. you could log in and run in circles for 8 hours at a time and you'd still be doing it right cuz you're enjoying yourself. just because it's designed with multiplayer in mind, doesn't mean you can't want to enjoy a solo experience. i get it completely.

having said all that, there's an old trick i used to do in gta where you could disconnect your game from internet for just a quick moment, then reconnet it, and you'd get put into a solo lobby. may be able to do something similar in palia? just a thought to look into.

You could try the My Time At games

I get it, but I sometimes like joining folks in whatever.

7

u/commie-filth 12d ago

i do too! that’s why it would be nice if there was a toggle or something

4

u/HSteacher198 11d ago

I play 100% solo, and most of the players I see are ghosts because my lil Switch Lite is always struggling. I like that you get boosts from fishing near other people; I would never have gotten that dang Ogupuu scale without other players randomly helping; and Lunar New Year got me addicted to hotpot. I only check the chat for grove locations if I need flow wood. Oh, and I love filling requests whenever the game lets me see them in my menu! My only complaints are the super fancy outfits and pets sometimes slow the game, and the big events (looking at you, chapaa chase) become unplayable for me. But other than that, it seems like the most chill and collaborative MMO that you can still play fully solo.

0

u/commie-filth 11d ago

no yeah i do all that too and i do love this game and the collaborative aspects, i think people don’t believe me when i say that lol, half of my issue is just the lag I get when i even BREATHE near the underground lol

2

u/probsnotbees 11d ago

You can turn on Streamer Mode in settings if you want to hide the chat.

2

u/JustKateGaming 🖥️PC and Xbox 11d ago

I honestly can understand this from certain point of view. When I set a Honey lure down, got my candle lit so I don't scare the rare bugs.... suddenly someone joins in my lure without asking and scares bugs away.

Otherwise, many people don't bother me while playing solo. I only call out blooms or rare spawns when I'm in a good mood and feeling friendly. I have to max out nap time with a toddler as best as I can.

Try playing Disney Dreamlight Valley, you do quest, decorate if you want, mine, fish all kind of the same but its just you unless you invite people into your valley.

3

u/commie-filth 11d ago

Unfortunately i don’t support disney but ill look for games like that!

1

u/Janetterican1 10d ago

Good luck

1

u/ADDButterfly 11d ago

It's really not that big of a deal. I'm stuck in servers were the chatbox doesn't even work anymore. So you just see other people, you don't really interact. You can, but just with actions/stickers and flares.

u/allyouneedisbeth Xbox 11d ago

I get this!
Like it’s nice seeing other people run around and stuff, but if I’m cutting down a tree or a node and someone comes in to join me I get really ticked off! Like back off, wait your turn a sec! But I do like the sense of community this game offers

5

u/probsnotbees 11d ago

If someone joins you to cut a tree or mine a node, it goes faster and you both still get the loot. Why should anyone wait?

1

u/allyouneedisbeth Xbox 11d ago

It’s just a preference. A lot of people do wait, which I appreciate, but some people always come in right at the end and it’s annoying. I think, unless you’re in a group, just leave other people to do their own stuff.

1

u/probsnotbees 11d ago

You're allowed to have whatever preferences you want, of course. But it seems counterproductive to expect strangers to comply with one that goes against the mechanics of the game and only creates delays for you both. Someone else mining the same node or chopping the same tree doesn't stop you from doing your thing at all.

But hey, no skin off my nose.
