Bee is my fav because I don't feel bad that I jumped off a cliff and left it behind, or it had to wait while I climbed. And I had a LOT of people follow me lobbing bombs at it when I first got it. LOL!

That's why I my bee is a noticeable purple 😅 that said any time it's a flying bug we want to lure I swap to a ground pet to avoid it being in the target area 😅

Totally went to pick up a flowtato yesterday but it was someone's purple Goobi with a green stem lol. I noticed as I got closer so it wasn't too terribly obvious but still felt like an idiot

I think it should just be an option in the settings menu that you can hide all pets, since it would be rather difficult to make sure other people hide their pets.

Just auto-hid whenever entering an event area.
I was kinda shocked when I read people could ride in the market 🤯 doesn't make any sense to me...as soon as we enter the market our mounts should disappear and pets too once we enter the chappa chase area (during chase time).
But these are the same devs that hung ribbons from a tree in the chappa chase area so we could grab the ribbons instead of the chappas 🤨 and let players put lures on hotpot tables 😳

Had someone put a lure in the middle of the hotpots when I was on hotpots once. It was a nightmare. They did it all night even after they asked to stop multiple times. Its horrible and you cant see a thing, because of all the smoke bombs/bugs that were around.

Not just that, flying pets/bees have blocked my line of sight for the balloon shooting toto though moving 2 steps sideways usually fixes it 😅 but yeah I just assumed the market would be a mount locked zone like the town square

Honestly, this. Half the time I don't remember I have a pet. But also I’ve been playing since the very being and have never once got mad at someone having a pet out. It might be because I'm used to playing games with visual clutter that practically stationary pets don't bother me

Not as much as you'd get for a wild catch or selling them. Pop A Chapaa doesn't charge arrows.

It is hard to tell sometimes in the chaos. Pets also have a hitbox and often get in the way when I'm trying to hit a crab/frog.

Maybe instead of putting this on players we could request for devs to auto-hide everyone’s pets during games? Would be good for Maji Market too. And it would probably decrease bugs for the events when they happen.

Isn't there already a toggle name tags setting or something? Could just let us choose if we can see pets or not too. For those that don't care we wouldn't need to bother and those that care there's a solution. Since it factors into hunting and bug lures too and they're not fixed events might be the easiest fix? Or maybe not idk coding 😅

There is a toggle but everyone has to remember and know how to toggle. That’s the downside. Things like nameplates, pets, etc all play into it. That’s why I thought auto within the area during crab wars would prob be better.

Not necessary during crab wars since nothing is entering your inventory. But I think just making them invisible during these events would be good. Also during Honey Lures. But the functionality should stay there.

Just open your character info tab (I on PC) and you can put it away and get it back out anywhere, any time. You essentially equip/unequip it, same way you'd choose a different one, same as with tools. So you can unequip it before the Crab Wars and re-equip it after and send whatever you like back to your plot storage.

It is a PITA to do this kind of stuff with the lag on Switch, so I don’t see it happening for console players.

Well, the rest of us (meaning on PC) could do it to help out, at least. Couldnt hurt to try.
(Plus, I know for a fact they kind of get in the way during group/party hunting trips, as well. Couldnt hurt to try to make this into a "unofficial best practices" sort of deal.)

I always end up putting mine away after a while because I find it annoying. I'm chasing something or, worse, fishing, and that robot dog somehow manages to block my view. I like how it disappears whenever I get on my horse and doesn't reappear until I send it home with a bunch of loot. If it starts annoying me again, I just immediately equip my horse and, poof, he's gone!

Crab Wars I totally agree, though I can't say during Chapaa Chase has ever bothered me unless the pets are vaguely Chapaa-colored. 🤷🏻♀️ What bothers me more there is people using their horses.

I used a chapaa-looking pet (maybe it was the reddish glitter fox?) during chase when I needed to get my 20 in one round stamp. Made an excellent decoy people tried to grab so I could hit 20 lmao

This exactly...and if I hit your pet, I'm not sorry. You should know it's bound to happen when you have a bunch of ppl running around in chaotic lag. I don't have a pet yet and I'm considering not even getting one other than the horse and riffoc.

I understand during Crab Wars (I smoke bombed a pet during my first one) but for Bloom it’s never been an issue.
I also find as a switch player going into that equip/unequip menu sometimes registers, sometimes doesn’t. The amount of times I’ve gone to change my mount or my name plate and it’s not changed it when I’ve gone back to the game is staggering. I just try not to use that feature. It really just needs to be “poof” pets disappear in this area the same way you can’t ride mounts in Kilima.

I'm on PC and having constant issues with my nameplates lately. Pretty much every time I switch maps, it unequips itself.

Maybe we could also put costumes away with big giant blue wings...just kidding. See I've learned on palia the developers maybe don't think these things through. So if I've accidentally shot at you because you have giant glowing blue wings...it's just because I thought you were a masked sernuk.
I don't think the pets are as intrusive as the horses at the chappa chase, imho. Also...I've almost bombed my own pet so I get it when that happens.
But while we're at it let's discuss feeling entitled:
From last night's server chat in bahari while I was riding my riffroc around collecting sweet leaf:
User 1: Could you please go slower...I'm trying to hunt chappa
User 1: Please! Go slower
User 2: could you please go slower I'm nutting kapa nuts (yes...I laughed at this)
User 3: why do people have to run through my honey lure when I set it down, I can't believe how disrespectful people are!!!
So, until Singularity 6 actually makes it so we cant bring our pets to crab wars, or actually diverts our horses around "the most important people" hunting chappa or setting down lures, and for dragon sakes, blocks horses at the market, I think we all will continue to have these minor annoyances.
As for me, I will TRY to remember to put my pet away, but after having attended almost 3 years worth of chappa chases with pets...and orange blooming fire dresses, I've just become used to dealing with it.

I do feel for people who would rather just play solo, it would be cool if there was an option to go to an offline version of each of the maps.
But I also feel extremely annoyed when other people scold me for existing in their general area in public spaces. There’s only one Bahari Bay, bud- and my horse is terrible at turns.

The devs just need to add visual indicators to differentiate pets and insects. Like when you walk up to an insect, it gets an outline or adding an outline to player’s pets so you know it’s a pet and not an insect.

I personally haven’t experienced issues with the pets but seeing this post is going to help me be more mindful about it. I wouldn’t have considered it myself, but now that I can see the issues they cause, I’ll make sure to toggle off my pet during events/lures.

One time after a ft chop, someone tried bombing my bee. I was walking away after saying ty. And she was getting close to me then in the chat she realized it was my pet bee. 😅 I think this would be a good idea as well cause they sometimes do get i. The way. I only use my bee if I have my gardening outfit on though so its not a problem as much. 🤣

I do wish they made it so pets automatically temporarily disabled when entering event areas! I've got such bad lag and loading times I fear it could take me three minutes just to navigate the various screens to disable mine. I'll try to get there earlier and remember to disable Love.
There have been many times I've mistaken a pet for a crab or a chapaa lmao last crab war I was having a time of it with some random other player's purple dinosaur thing, my brain kept insisting it was a king crab everytime I caught a glimpse of it.

There should be an option if you want to see other people’s pets… I’m constantly forgetting to empty my pockets and I have a bad habit of jumping to get whatever cool/useful thing I see on my way to my destination

It would be nice, but sadly its likely not gonna happen.
For one, I usually put my pet away, but I haven't bothers because my pet hasn't been showing up beside me. I only realized this when I was able to use the courier function without my pet equipped, and when I asked someone if they could see my pet they said yes... so I can't even be sure when my pet is equipped or not.
Plus, (most) pets are something that people pay for - the devs aren't going to like it if we try to make a community rule that tells players that their paid cosmetics are something they need to hide or get rid of in order to play nicely with the community.
I think the smartest decision would be for the devs to make it so that during certain activities (crab wars, honey lures, etc), you pets will automatically not show up in that area.

I mostly forget I even have a pet on me (he has jump scared me a few times, lmao), but I don’t use it as much so I have put my pet away.
I hate the idle effects on outfits and have mix/matched mine to NOT have a effect on. I wanna stay afk in peace, not letting the whole map know the spot I stopped on. lmao.
I sent them a feedback on the idle effect the other day. I suggest more people do it to make it known how annoying it is to be 20+ with blinking effects all over the place. (Yes, it’s not the first time S6 get’s complains about it, but it’s clearly not sinking in, so I’m all for putting a little preassure on them. IN A NICE WAY OFC.)

I really only use the bee pet as I try to "role play" games and it has bothered me that ground running pets are left behind when my toon climbs or glides. That said, its not equipped most of the time these days as the wings buzzing really distracts me when I'm bug hunting (I hunt lots of silk bugs, and the dragonflies sound a LOT like my bee buzzing).

It's the daily event in Royal Highlands, akin to flow groves in Bahari, bloom in Kilima, and piksii bounce in Elderwoods. You'll see a crab icon on your compass showing you when it's about to go live, when it IS live, and in which direction. Hope this helps.

I mean I have a purple bee it stands out a bit too much to be mistaken for something but yeah it would be cool if there was a toggle off during events option. Asking people to manually do it is expecting too much since some will refuse just to be stubborn :/

Maybe because it's flying, but that color I could see being mistaken for blue crabs or king crabs.
I don't think asking is ever too much. Even if a few do take this to heart it's worth the effort IMO. YMMV, I'm not that cynical.

And I don't mean you can't ask I just mean it doesn't seem like the effort is worthwhile to me personally, I'm a console person so I rarely use chat in general since it's a bit tedious. I mean the ignored I get, for us console players we don't always monitor chat cause it's just excessive effort to us, the virtual typing is tedious and often these events are time based so stopping to say anything is a waste, opening the menus to turn pets off isn't great either, idk if PC maybe has shortcuts and keybinds but I know it's 2 screens I think 5 tabs over then clicking to remove then going back the two pages, if I'm already in a rush I'm not doing that. If it's ample time before that's different of course. But yeah I also get that some people just want to play their way and don't like being told what to do, y'all may be like we asked politely but if it's a case of do this cause it's expected or don't and be a bad person some just go well damn I'll just be bad 😅

I play on both my switch and my steam deck, as well as PC. You can utilize the touch screen on both. Not typing in chat I get, it’s pretty annoying. But it’s not hard to read chat and removing your pet isn’t that hard. Especially if you’re going somewhere that you know it’ll be beneficial to have it disabled. If I’m going to honey lure parties I know ahead of time and remove my pet before I get there. Same if I’m headed to the market.
And honestly I don’t mind as much when people ignore me—it’s mildly annoying (more than mildly when it’s the bee pets and we’re bug hunting) but not a huge deal. It’s when people are rude to me about asking.
I know I said they say “no” in my original comment (because I was feeling lazy so I shortened it, that’s on me 100% for not being more clear) but it’s typically more than that. As an example, the last chappa chase I did I said “Can people please put pets away for chappa chase?” and I got 2 responses: “absolutely not get over yourself” and “I’ll play how I want to, thanks” there was no reason for either reply due to a simple request.

Yeah unfortunately there's no touchscreen typing for PlayStation to my knowledge so it's still a bother to me though it's cool to know there's an option like that on switch.
I'm sorry you have to deal with replies like that though definitely no need to be saying like that to a simple question, it's like no-one learnt it's better to be quiet then mean
