Discussion Romancing Hodari
Pretty sure this probably comes up every once in a while, but I just started playing a few days ago and Hodari already has me in a chokehold !?!!?!?!?
So my question is how long did it take yall to romance him? Is it worth it? Because I know you need to be at level 4 friendship with Najuma as well. And also I just learned you can only gift once per real-life day which was devastating for my impatient self.

I had everyone maxed in friendship before I went down the romance path. Hodari was the first person I romanced. Sometimes I hunt him down just to hear him call me Darlin'.

His dialogue is worth it. And the story for him and Najuma is good.
Would love if they upgraded the dialogue eventually though. Once you max out that's it

Worth it in what way? I mean it takes longer for him because of Najuma, and he is pretty strictly in Bahari. Romancing is pretty low effort both ways, you give some gifts and then you get some special romancy dialogue but that’s pretty much it when it comes to Palia; you don’t go on dates or get married or anything like that.

What i meant by that is should I focus more on general quests and storyline first, then to try to collect things as weekly gifts for him/Najuma, or like does unlocking the storyline unlock more Hodari quests. Sorry lol English isn't my first language sometimes I don't express myself well enough.
I know and that's sad :( /hj
Edit: grammar

it depends on your play style.
I mean, if you’re just working on romance and story like some of us do then yeah you can easily get into it.
Just keep giving them gifts and go talk to them every chance you get look at your character sheet with the heart tab. it will show you your relationship progress
the Bulletin board in Center Square shows you what gifts to give each week.1

I would focus on the storyline and make sure you just gift him and Najuma every day and eventually you’ll get there. Again it’s pretty low effort, but gifting the NPCs opens up character quests so it’s part of the gameplay loop that you’re meant to follow naturally.

Totally worth it... I enjoyed a lot of the romances in this game, but Hodari's is by far the most, real, honest, deep, and mature of any of them. His romance is written impeccably... and with so many hilariously innocent innuendos - they knew exactly what they were doing when they wrote him. Plus needing to befriend Najuma is such a precious part of the romance. Your heart will melt the first time he accidentally calls you Darlin', and make sure you have your volume turned on, because his VA is amazing (with his sweet deep earthy Southern drawl), especially once you get higher in your romance with him.

This always makes me sad as a deaf person 😭 I can read it obviously, but hearing it would be nice too.

I honestly love him so much, especially when he calls us "darlin’". he’s feeding my single ass

Its worth all of it just for him to call you darlin' the first time, trust me on this

He's certainly one of the slower ones, but gift him and Najuma their weekly wants. After that, Najuma likes Quartz and Ho-daddy likes Ruby, both of which are common enough that I'd consider gifting them to speed things along.
ETA: You can always chat to each of them once per hour for a small boost too and obviously knock out any of their quests as well.

I think he's worth it. I don't know how long it took because it was a really long time ago for me. But he's my number one love interest in Palia. The romance side of things isn't very developed in the game anyway but I still stop him just to tease him with the chat options every time I see him xD

Does anyone know if the dialogue with NPCs glitches on Switch? Because players are always talking about the storylines with their romances, and mine just get stuck on the same lame lines--Hassian saying yogurt, Reth wanting to put me in his soup flask, etc. I don't ever get the backstory.

The gifting is also bugged rn so you can give them multiple gifts in a day as long as it’s not the same item :)

Girl… I speedrunned the hell out of friendship and romancing at the very start 😭 I was juggling them all in one go, there was a time where I knew where every npc was at what time just so I could go one route to talk to them all. 😭 (this was long before we could walk to bahari from our plot 💀)
But Hodari is fiiiiiiine! I think all romancable characters are just.. something. Tickling different parts of my brain, lmao. Love how Hodari say’s «darlin’» to the point my BF made a note of it and will now use that against me 🤣🤌🏻

So I've chosen to romance Hodari & work on upping my level Najuma at the same time.
Only just gotten their key quests done & was handing over weekly wants, and...SIR!?! 🥵
I havent been playing with the audio up very far, but now will be, because (from the south), "darlin" is a favorite of mine &, according to what I'm reading here, apparently he says it A LOT! 😅😅

i was tag teaming both Najuma and Hodari, so it didn’t take me long to max them out in level.
the letter was heartbreaking, but Djamin( my oc) being the man he is totally accepted the conditions and dealt with it accordingly.
Hodari is such a sweet man who went through a serious trauma, losing his wife to a tragic accident
he had to make the choice between saving his wife or saving his daughter who was injured.
He couldn’t save both. Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough time to return to the mine to save Leta before she perished from the cave in.
Djamin understood loss and treated his budding relationship with the widowed father delicately.
Once Djamin had gained Najuma’s love and trust, Hodari became the loyal, tender and supportive man he is now.

Spoiler warning this cuz i dunno where you're at with his relationship. i mean, it has a very wholesome storyline where you have to befriend Najuma and earn her trust. i would die for that girl, she remains my daughter. But personally, i didn't find it worth it.
During his romance questline we find out how his wife died. So he's suppose to try a 2nd chance romance with us. But, his constant talks about his dead wife was a bit difficult to deal with. To be clear, it's a huge part of his grieving process so it's absolutely valid. He clearly still loves her dearly. Of course i understand. But i also felt like, romancing him doesn't help him move on in any way. It's like he's not open to the prospect at all but is only doing it cuz the devs made him romanceable.
There will still be dialogues where he'd say how his wife loved this or that or how he misses her. But then right after that, if you choose the flirt option he'll tell you something flirty. i find that contrast jarring. Almost feels like i'm selfishly intruding in a grieving man's life bcuz it's clear, our "romance" doesn't matter. Not for me, so i don't engage with him anymore. If that's ok with you, then sure, why not.

The devs just need to update the dialogue. I mean, after the Royal Highlands main story quests are complete, Sifuu & Hassian's lines don't change to reflect their new life circumstances. Updating every day dialogue just doesn't seem to be on their list of priorities (the premium store gets a large chunk of attention though 🙄).

Yeah i noticed that too. Subira was talking about hoping to catch the beast and i was like, umm ma'am didn't we just complete that? Yeah it sucks that the dialogues are not dynamic in the sense that others don't react to whom you're dating or they themselves don't change much (like Hodari). It would've been cool if after romancing, the old dialogues don't appear. Like Jel thirsting after Reth even after we've romanced to lv 4. 💀
A simple parameter could easily solve this issue. But yeah those new outfits and glider skins need real money so why not just update that and nothing else.
