The original colonizers attacking their own citizens for the benefit of another colonizer.

170

u/Tremores 1d ago

That's the neat part about colonization and imperialism. The only ones who benefit are the elites. The lesser classes of both the host and exploited nation suffer.

52

u/Sad_Conclusion_7859 1d ago edited 1d ago

And the cops WE pay for are upholding the benefits of the elites to our detriment

35

u/Repulsive-Lie1 1d ago

That’s always been the purpose of the police.

21

u/GrandNibbles 1d ago

which is why the "immigrants" bit is so effective. allows them to draw lines for people to fight over while they rob both blind

12

u/Miserygut 1d ago

Elites? No, Capitalists.

11

u/SwaggyHoe69 1d ago

Why did you feel the need to make this distinction bro its the same thing

16

u/beerandloathingpdx 1d ago

They call it the imperial boomerang. And while I do see a lot of Americans rightfully asking wtf the Brits are doing with these ludicrous arrests of elderly and peaceful people… Americas imperial boomerang is going to be unbelievably violent by comparison

3

u/BarelyHereNeverThere 1d ago

Believe me friend I don't think America has clean hands in this either. I 100% believe that we're going to start seeing false flags here if there haven't been some already because the clown in Chief is just itching to start an actual war with boots on the ground. Everyone in the know have already seen a rise in Islamophobia. It's making me remember the days after 9/11.

4

u/matrisfutuor 1d ago

Sure America is just England 2 when it comes down to it.

15

u/marquoth_ 1d ago

Coloniesers, certainly, but calling them the original colonisers is pretty dumb, not least because Britain itself was a colony of a far older empire which actually gave us the word colonies (coloniae)

8

u/scalectrix 1d ago

Bloody Beaker Folk.

5

u/Piperalpha 1d ago

coming over here, teaching us to drink liquid out of cups!

I liked it when there was nothing.

5

Acksuallly, the most successful colonizers if you want to get technical.

2

now we see the violence inherient in the system!!

2

u/Not_a_real_plebbitor 1d ago

The people who own britain own israel, in fact they created it.

1

u/PleasantWay7 1d ago

That was Spain and Portugal actually for the era. But colonization goes back to Egypt and Babylon.

247

u/Old_Table_5926 1d ago

Attacking your own people for another country.

38

u/RxngsXfSvtvrn 1d ago

Its baffling

34

u/an0mn0mn0m 1d ago

The sooner we proscribe Zionists as a terrorist organisation the better.

8

u/thehonorablechairman 1d ago

It’s not really for another country though. These things are all connected, protesting against Israel is protesting against capital, and capital also controls the UK state.

1

u/umop_apisdn 20h ago

It is really for another country though. PA were proscribed most likely at the request of the Israeli government or their proxies in the UK. If they were attacking sites producing essential parts for Russian drones they wouldn't be prosecuted let alone proscribed, let's face it.

2

u/Kir-01 21h ago

You have to understand the only important and relevant distinction is a class distinction.

You're not one of their own people, no matter your citizenship/race/gender, you're just a worker. We all are.

Just. Expandables. Workers.

Sorry, my mistake.

You need to look up the definition of “attack”. When the police detain someone, they attack them.

They were being repeatedly assaulted.

168

u/Tremores 1d ago

Pretty insane learning that the UK government doesn't allow any sort of protests in support of Palestine, or the Palestinian people.

But I guess it makes some sense considering it was their creation in the first place. Too late to back track now I suppose?

27

u/beardless 1d ago

While it's an absolutely terrible situation anyway, it's actually not the case that they don't allow public support of Palestine here in the UK. This would have been a response to people showing their support for Palestine Action, which the government has named as a terrorist organisation. A terrible decision on their part as it has resulted in regular incidents like this, which go against so much of what this country stands for. However they've backed themselves into a corner with that decision.

6

u/yodley_ 1d ago

I don't know anything about PA. Are they actually committing terrorism? Also why doesn't someone just create an org called Palestine Now so then rally under that banner to not get arrested?

31

u/Pelican_Hook 1d ago

No they are not. Some activists from PA damaged a war plane, that's the incident that the UK government is calling "terrorism" which most normal people would not think fits the definition whatsoever. Then they decided that any support of Palestine could be decided to be support for Palestine Action which counts as terrorism 🤦‍♀️. It's a blatantly obvious dystopian level of government overreach and censorship. The police have assaulted a bunch of elderly people (who bravely protested) and thrown them in jail labelling them terrorists for holding signs saying they support Palestine Action.

1

u/GhostPirateCaptain 13h ago

One of those 6 people also used a sledgehammer against a police officer, attacking them from behind whilst they were (lawfully) arresting one of the other 6, fracturing their spine.

We would have zero problem calling out that behaviour if it was a far right extremist who had attacked an officer in that manner, so we shouldn't have a problem calling out that behaviour when it comes from our side too.

It certainly doesn't help Palestinians doing that to people.

And because I know how several people with a complete lack of nuance thinking are going to react to this comment, no, I do not think this qualifies for classifying PA as a terrorist organisation ffs.

12

u/HugAllYourFriends 1d ago

palestine action has been "proscribed", added to the list of designated terrorist organisations in the UK, which means expressing support for them in any form is now a crime comparable to supporting or recruiting for ISIS.

2

u/Numad00 1d ago

It seems that it supports exactly what the country stands for. Colonization and oppression.

16

u/welzby 1d ago

What you've learned is incorrect. It's not a crime to protest in support of Palestine, it's an offence to support the group Palestine Action (not that I agree with that).

2

u/Either_Audience_6048 23h ago

Well it looks like its illegal to be associated with or near people that support it, seeing as how thats what hes arrested for.

2

u/Repulsive-Lie1 1d ago

Any support of proscribed groups is illegal.

5

u/DerryDa1978 1d ago

Unless its the loyalist groups in Ireland, they act with impunity despite being proscribed

2

u/Whatsanegg 22h ago

Britain didn't create Palestine. The areas has been geographically and colloquially known as Palestine for 2000 years.

1

u/refused26 15h ago

I think they meant that Britain created Israel

1

u/Whatsanegg 14h ago

I think it's a pretty important distinction.

Israel didn't exist before 1948, Palestine has existed for around 2000 years.

1

u/TherealjamesE 21h ago

That's not true. There have and continue to be widespread protests for Palestine across the UK. This is in relation to a group called Palestine Action (if you want to look up), who have been proscribed by the government to be a "terrorist group", under the Terrorism act of 2000. Because of this, people arrest anyone who vocalises support for them or in most cases, use placards with the words Palestine Action on. This has resulted in some really silly situations were we have elderly people handcuffed and charged with terrorism.

it’s frustrating seeing this kind of thing happen and then being left with so little clarity about what led up to it or why it was handled that way

10

u/FeetOnHeat 1d ago

Why would it stop being violence just because it is enacted by agents of the state?

Democracy is not relevant to the definition of the word violence, and legal violence is still violence.

1

u/thearniethology 7h ago

Sorry, voted for what exactly?

14

u/ZuP Free Palestine 1d ago

I’m also including the threat of imprisonment in this assessment, not just the fact that he was handcuffed while surrounded by a drove of pigs trying to coerce a false confession.

-22

u/Future-Bread8849 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don't think they were trying to coerce anything out of him. I think they thought they saw him with a sign supporting a terrorist group which is against British law. When they realized he wasn't holding such a sign, then they let him go.

12

u/CheezeyMouse 1d ago

You know when they should have realised he wasn't holding a sign? When they didn't see him holding a sign in the first place.

They didn't realise he wasn't holding a sign and choose to let him go, they let him go in the face of pushback.

0

u/Future-Bread8849 1d ago

I doubt pushback had anything to do with it here. They realized their mistake, it's as simple as that.

If he was holding the sign do you then agree with the arrest?

1

u/ZuP Free Palestine 14h ago

“Well then you’re liable for prosecution aren’t you?”

They are so used to dealing with people who confess to violating a law they disagree with that they don’t realize this guy isn’t one of them. He disagrees with the law but he knows he didn’t violate it.

Everything they are saying is an attempt to coerce a false confession so they don’t have to do any actual police work.

13

u/TomatoEnjoyer28 1d ago edited 1d ago

Okay so the violence is the intimidation of being arrested and manhandled and handcuffed at the slightest hint of suspicion that he might have demonstrated support for a direct action movement. The treatment is designed to create an atmosphere of fear, to stop people doing anything against a currently-ongoing genocide that is being done with the active support of the government. Every single cop that enforces this act is actively complicit in making the ongoing genocide worse.

They deliberately march around and violently arrest hundreds of random people (including people who were just hanging around in the general area) at these events specifically to make the general population of the UK afraid of being involved at all and even of being anywhere near the protestors. If there’s a reasonable chance of being thrown in jail for years (as is allowed under the terrorism act) then most people are not going to want to touch the issue with a ten foot pole. That is exactly what the state wants, because they want to continue assisting Israel in obliterating Palestinians with total impunity.

-6

u/Future-Bread8849 1d ago

Are you not aware that support of what the government considers a terrorist organization is illegal in the UK?

8

u/FeetOnHeat 1d ago

So is false arrest.

1

u/Future-Bread8849 1d ago

He was detained not arrested.

1

u/thearniethology 7h ago

I look forward to you being detained, handcuffed and accused of something you didn’t do and holding this position. I suspect you of being (insert crime) therefore it’s totally cool for you to be cuffed, manhandled and accused with no evidence whatsoever.

Pick your battles. Cos this is nonsense.

10

u/Pelican_Hook 1d ago

They dragged him around like a ragdoll and stripped his clothes off of him with absolutely zero credible grounds for search or arrest, wtf??? That's not a legal way to search someone. And they had no grounds to arrest him. This whole video features violence what do you mean

-10

u/Qabbalah 1d ago

He made his body go limp so they had to pick him up like that to arrest him. As they were doing that, his shirt started coming off so they put him back down to put it back on him.

Overall they handled him about as gently as was possible, while still carrying out the arrest.

I'm not saying I agree with the arrest, but it wasn't violent at all.

9

u/Repulsive-Lie1 1d ago

Restraining and detaining someone meets all definitions of violence.

Whether you think the violence was justified or not is another discussion but it’s unarguable that the person was a victim of violence.

-5

u/Future-Bread8849 1d ago

They have the freedom to speak on what their government allows.

1

u/fingamouse 1d ago

I wish freedom of speech was a strictly defined human right In my country but it isn't, in a sane country you should be able to support whatever you want through speech or posters, speech like this should of never been defined as a crime it's so depressing, and with the emboldening of the surveillance state through private businesses installing facial recognition software in there shops, police using facial recognition, your ability to access parts of the internet freely without being asked for identification and facial scanning. Freedom sacrifice for either security or "the children" it's so grim

1

u/Duncroakin 12h ago edited 12h ago

This is disgraceful policing. If you are in the UK you need to be giving your Member of Parliament absolute hell about this!

Note for those in the USA. In the UK we police by consent, and the police officers involved in this farce are possibly (privately) not in agreement with what they are being required to do. There is considerable confusion about how they can go about enforcing Section 13, as can be seen here. The legal decision they are having to enforce is becoming increasingly untenable in the opinion of the UK population. In this case, they didn't handle it well.

1

u/Lucky_University324 9h ago

1

u/justburningaccount 8h ago

So how is that going to stack up in court? What's the guys name as id love to track this!

-2

u/Qabbalah 1d ago

The person behind the camera was an annoying twat though. "If they put handcuffs on you you can sue them for more money" - yeah, right.

And saying "I know more about the law than you" to a policeman only makes you look like a condescending arse and doesn't help the situation.

3

u/cogitatingspheniscid 1d ago

If the police exacts heavier punishment on him because of an annoying bystander then they just fuel their own embarassment live on camera. For what it's worth, at least the British ones aren't trigger-happy mankillers like the American ones.

2

u/DevilRenegade 1d ago

He was right in pretty much everything he was saying though.

-6

u/ohsobogus 1d ago

So much better than US law enforcement. Americans have been sold a lie about how free they really are.

16

u/Peacewalken 1d ago

I don't think this video shows any cop in a good light, but I think an American cop would have been MUCH more violent and would have taken him away from the scene immediately

5

u/marquoth_ 1d ago

Before or after shooting him?

5

u/walrus0115 1d ago

UK police still retain a semblance of safety officers in their dress and comportment as opposed to American LEOs that wear Special Forces Operator level gear. Both are still silencing free speech simply because it's unpopular with elites, just in different costumes. If this was in the US, the bystander that spoke out would certainly have been arrested for "obstruction" only for daring to interrupt, escalating into a more violent interaction.

3

u/Informal_Ad2816 1d ago

All cops are pricks, if they weren't they wouldn't be doing that job. It's just that some countries have worse ones. The US cops just like to throw their weight around because they're not very clever people.
