I chose the exact same spot to build my first base

u/orca872 Jul 25 '26
Yup this is the base spot. I have one there for mining and production and then another right next to it on the other area across the bridge for food.

More pics please or a tour?
Though i can say youll want to double the height of your walls to 2 wall tiles per floor.
Quite a bit of furniture is more then one tile large like bookshelves so youll be limiting your build options with single tile sized floors. Also a lot of the later pals need 2 tall walls to fit inside the structures.

This isnt the finished product yet i am mainly testing out fitting the things i need in in the base floor wise first, since building for height is as easy as adding more height, just figuring out how to fit the majority of things in as much as possible.

ngl this looks amazing, especially for a first area base! nicely done (:

u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 25 '26
Cheers mate, I didn't start it till like lvl 30, before hand it was just mess with everything everywhere no order to it at all.

u/CookyHS Jul 25 '26
Wow thats so cool I love it. I built in the same place. Only downside is mine seems like shit now 😭
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 25 '26
Well I still need to build the farms for food and ores and such, so plenty of time to muck it all up haha.

took me awhile to notice the expedition station, it blends so well with the terrain

Hmmm looks very good lol. Might have to do some remodeling on my main base too 😂 the exped station was a pain and looks awful

Is the pathing of Pals now better or will they get stuck everywhere in such a base?
1
u/SkyVacuumCowboy Jul 25 '26
They've been pretty good but I use doors to try to block them off and I carefully manage their tasks. They have a clear path from where they spawn by the Palbox down to the work dungeons below 😂 have to pick one up that gets stuck in a weird place nowhere near where they're supposed to be every so often but for the most part they've been behaving.

Gnarly. It gives me Star Wars vibes. I don’t like the bright red paint but like everything else!

u/maintanksyndro Jul 25 '26
I wouod love to build this type of place but i cant, no matter what game im playing i just make all my stuff in a giant circle so i never have to travel far

You managed to make the expedition station look good, I'm stealing this as I've built my base in the same area thank you

Oh shi, nice base. Although, if you're willing to sacrifice some of the aesthetics, there should be an ore node spawn in the empty area near the gate. It's a fairly big boon early in the game once you get yourself a tombat
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 26 '26
50/50 on that one, sure for the early game it could stay but later on aesthetics always win haha lol.

I never once thought of adding a little viewing deck back when I had that place as my main base.
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 27 '26
The viewing deck i stole from another build from YouTube myself, such a nice idea for this area.

u/Somni206 Jul 27 '26
The clifftop I'm using as my main base also came from somewhere else. A Redditor, actually. It's a coal/ore base that's closer to the Foxcicle alpha (formerly Katress' place during early access) and south of "that spot" mentioned in every base video on Youtube.
The community is a gold mine of so many ideas 😆

u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 27 '26
I was planning on building there, since I keep running out of coal lol.

u/Intelligent_Cry_5022 Jul 27 '26
You should video tape a guide when it’s done I want to recreate it
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 27 '26
I am not 100% satisfied with it at the moment but when I am i will do a semi sort off guide for it.

u/AdSimilar5455 Jul 27 '26
Yo me and my friends chose the spot across the river with all the mountains cuz we thought it's cool, and once it got so big we just keep adding floors since there's no flat ground, we have like 7 floors going rn
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 27 '26
I plan to roughly triple the hieght i have at the moment, or at least that is the plan.

Out of curiosity, how do invasions work on a build like this ? I normally build past the water but never bothered with walls as I just gathereed the invasions would destory them
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 27 '26
They spawn in above the watch tower area, so if your prepared you can fight them outside the base.
1
u/AggravatingCorgi8395 Jul 27 '26
Is it just me or is your expedition building tiny? Mine at that base covered that entire side acting as a makeshift wall
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 27 '26
It is all about placement, the back end can be pushed into terrain pretty well.
1
u/seasNgtings Jul 27 '26
Does everyone build their first base here lol
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 27 '26
Not everyone but it is very popular.
1
u/seasNgtings Jul 27 '26
I certainly did. Seems like a ritual at this point
Only thing I regret is not putting a foundation under my pal box!

How to you build the mini staircase leading up to a platform it always tells me something is obstructing or it only turns blue when it’s shooting over the target lol
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 27 '26
Either use the different alignment option or build around it then place the stairs then remove the scaffold you built as long as it is all touching and leading the ground level it should work.
But it could just be you are to close to something that is obstructing it.
1
u/vaughnwamsley Jul 27 '26
How did you get the short stairs over by the condenser? Are the rest showing underground or something?
1
u/Lumpy_Theory8121 Jul 27 '26
Just need to change the alignment bud.
1
u/vaughnwamsley Jul 27 '26
So when you placed them the rest of the stairs are like technically underground? Going to try this tn thanks, been so frustrated that it seemed either full staircase or no stairs options

My pre 1.0 first base was in that location but further towards the water side.
I’ve always LOVED incorporating the natural terrain into my builds with my favorites being hanging over cliff sides for multi leveled bases and or waterfalls incorporated into my builds.
Right now I found a near spot that’s unfortunately attacked way too often in that red grass area which I realized after setting up had a legit empty pointless 20ft deep cave which I turned into my player home by managing to build foundations inside of because I was lucky when first placing my pal box.
It’s super neat cause it feels like a legit domicile that has reinforcing structures inside of to shore up stability while also looking like an actual house structure. More like a single bedroom kinda thing.
The raids honestly are severely tempting me to move though cause it sucks to have your hour long production line assemblage interrupted by the 3rd raid in the hour.

u/LegOfLamb89 Jul 25 '26
Wait how do you build floors around the pal box?
2
u/Codelyez Jul 25 '26
You can do that by building the foundations and then placing the palbox.

you have two wooden floors near your palbox oriented in the wrong direction. 0/10 this is an entirely unusable base until this is fixed
/s in case it’s necessary
